Yes, I did all that and the order gets corrected properly in FTB. The problem is that when I publish to the website, the correction is NOT made in the on-line tree! As I indicated, I found the work-around described above (after many hours of experimenting), but I should not have had to do that. Thanks for your interest, though.
There is a difference between the ways to set the order of children in the tree online and in Family Tree Builder.
Although you can manage the order of children in Family Tree Builder, the site will display them in order according to their birth dates. I'm glad to hear you managed to find a work-around to display this the way you want.
A better job should really be done of synchronizing FTB with the published on-line tree. Why have the 'exactly', 'about', 'estimated', 'calculated' etc. options when none but the 'exactly' option has the numerical value translatable to the on-line published tree? And why have the order modification option in FTB if that does not get transferred to the on-line tree either? As it happened, I found an effective work-around method, but only after too many hours of sweating and swearing. At least alert people to that problem and offer them my work-around. And don't tell me to go with an on-line tree only. It's too risky and I don't want anyone else messing with the quality and consistency of my work!
I agree with the problem of birth order vs. birth date, but another problem that needs to be addressed is the home person in FTB should be the home person online. Right now I am not in my own tree and I find it very frustrating.
I merged to GEDCOM files in the Family Tree Builder but when I uploaded to the website the names of the people on one half of the tree are listed as "unknown". All other info is intact and the names are still correct in Family Tree Builder. What's wrong?
I'm not sure if anyone else has reported these problems but I have been experiencing a lot of bugs in the software. Whenever I open up pop-up windows for selecting options or 'helpful hints' the windows are not formatted properly, icons and buttons are not formatted in the windows properly and in some cases I can't even click on options. A lot of the text in the pop-ups don't even fit within the window and can't be read. The charts also run incredibly slow when I create them and try to scroll up and down through them which is very frustrating.
I am running Windows 7 on an incredibly fast and new Sony Vaio laptop and have downloaded your version 5.1. I don't have these issues with any other programs I run on my laptop.
I've created a family tree within the Family Tree Builder software (I have not uploaded it to the site yet and do not wish to do so for now). Is there a feature to allow me to export the graphical charts to to external file types outside the FTB program such as PDF or Visio? My only options that I can see at this point are printing the charts to my printer or buying the premium service to have MyHeritage create a large poster size wall chart for me.
It is possible to create a PDF file of parts of your tree in Family Tree Builder. In order to do so, open the Family Tree Builder, go to Charts and choose the type of chart you would like to produce. After choosing a chart, it will be created automatically and by clicking 'Save' you will get the option to save it as a PDF or JPEG file.
If you wish to create a chart of the hole tree, you can either upgrade and create it in the Family Tree Builder or publish your tree to the site and create an All-In-One chart there for free.
Thanks for the explanation using the Family Tree Builder software however, now I've published my family tree online and create a site. Do I still have the same options using the online site? I was able to create a chart and open it in a PDF but can I also save it to a JPEG from the site?
I am very new to this. I currently have a web page on My Heritage which I started to build family tree. I then downloaded Family Tree Builder and have been building my family tree. Can someone help me. I want to publish the family tree from Family Tree Builder into my existing Mr Heritage Web Site of which I already have premium membership.
When I publish it goes to new web site without premium membership
I want to create a chart for a person and I want to include brother and sisters of his ancestors. Mainly for the brothers of their grandparents. Is there any way to get this?
Of course, I know I could use the "all in one" graphic, but I have to many people in my tree and I don't want the chart to be messed. And anyway I don't like the way "all in one" chart aligns ancestors.
We have a family member who converted to Islam and had their name changed for example to Addullah .Their children will of course be named like any other muslim ie Mohd bin ( son of) Abdullah or Rubiah bte (daughter of) Abdullah . I was wondering how to handle this in Family tree builder beyond the second generation . The string of successive fathers names will be very long . Ex WW bin XX bin YY bin Mohd bin Abdullah for 5 generations. There is no such notion as a surname so what to do ? Any suggestions ? Tks
I have consulted our chief genealogist regarding this issue, and he said that name formats are sometimes a matter of family tradition, but genealogically it is correct to only record the first generation. His recommendation for you is to go back only one generation, for example: Mohd bin Abdulla.
Each culture has it's own way to support names, and although currently we are unable to support all of them, we do our best to try. Therefore, please note that Family Tree Builder, after listing one family member's name as bin XX, it wil lbe the default name for his children as well. You will have to fix this manually according to your preference.
And reports PDF under Family Tree tap doesn't support Chinese either even when my tree is in Chinese. Can myHeritage fix that? I think the major problem with this software for Chinese is the last name (1st) and first name (2nd) display issue. Hope they can fix this one too.
I'd like that option as well though I do hope that it will be possible to use multiple languages for entering details. We have a very mixed family so we need to enter both Eastern (Chinese, Korean) and Latin names. So, if possible I'd like to enter the Latin version in one field and the original language one in another.
Thanks for your question. If you would like multiple languages for entering details on your family tree, what I would reccomend is to download our Family Tree Builder Program. Once downloaded you'll be able to choose a primary language and a secondary language. This means you may enter the Latin version in one field and a Korean name in the other field.
