So it seems pretty clear that the family tree builder is a poorly made software product, and the support infrastructure is worthless. Given that, what are people doing? What is the best competitor? Should I just give up on the desktop app completely and use the web site?
I have never had any problems with FTB. Your syncing problem may be related to Windows 10--I heard it was not stable yet. I have been on other genealogy sites. Ancestry.com users, among others, are even more unhappy than you are! I, for one, count my blessings.
The best way to filter your research by location is using the Search Map on the bottom of the main SuperSearch page.
In order to find records from a specific country, I would like to recommend you to refine your search by country / state / city by entering a location on the field(s) named: Place. You can also scroll down to the map and click on the specific country. This will rearrange the results placing the most relevant to the location first.
After you have selected the continent (Europe) and country (Ireland) on the countries list, the page that will open will give you on the right side all the Irish collections which you can also click in order to filter even further your research.
Have had no problems with FTB and WIN 10. Used the different BETA-versions for a long time and installed a clean WIN10. Made a backup of ALL my FTB-trees (all files), deleted FTB and reinstalled it and copied my trees back to the right location. No probles so far with anything.
I don't know if you can help me or not but I am putting my family Tree into a book for my family and I can't download my family tree, how do I do it. I am computer dumb and I am old 80 years old so you see that is the reason I can't download my family tree for Authorhouse Publishing.
If the person's information is correct and only the relationship with another person is not, then I believe you do not need to delete that person but you can disconnect the one person from the other (and eventually in the future connect to another person that might be the correct relative).
Please, visit the link below to learn how to connect/disconnect relatives.
I am a little disappointed in the choices I have in the Reports section of FTB. The Descendants report is good if I want all the details and each generation is listed together. The Descendant Summary report is good for a general family tree with birth and death dates.
However, I am wondering why FTB does not offer a report similar to the attachment below. I have seen this report format in other genealogy programs and would like to use this, since it gives detailed information about places as well as dates without the detail of the Descendants report.
Have I missed a way to generate this kind of report on FTB? I like the program, but this would be a good suggestion for improvement.
I am not talking about an Excel spreadsheet when I am talking about this report. The report, which I have seen on other genealogy programs, looks like the report below.
As you can see, each person has the details of their birth and death (date and place), as well as the date and place of their marriage. Each child is listed, and if there are grandchildren, etc., they are listed under their parents.
I hope this clarifies what I meant. Although I could get by with the reports FTB already has, I really would like this one as an option. Maybe this could be released in another version.
