Go to the person that you want to connect this "commited relationship" to. Let´s say that person is a female. Add a husband, go to the part where you have the details for the "marrige" choose Status and pick the relation that is most suitable, engaged, partners, friends there are several options.

I am experiencing several sync errors and I may have caused some of them myself. I use 2 computers (a desktop & a laptop) for FTB. I'm not really sure what I did, but when I tried to sync both of them I wound up with a second set of files with a "2" after them. I then tried to re-sync the "2" files and received an eror message saying the limit to this file is 98 people. I have attached the log file & error message I received. I now realize that I need to point the "Projects Directory" in "Tools>Options>General>Projects Directory" to the same file on both computers. Please help me fix these issues so I can delete the set of "2" files and maintain the integrity of my tree.
I understand your frustration - I, also, would like to be able to use a home computer and a laptop, and to be able to use the software, not the website workaround.
What I've done that has worked so far is relatively simple. The first thing you have to do is get back to a single, good copy of your database on one of the computers, and sync it to the website.
Then, when you want to use the other computer, the first thing you do is go to "File-Restore Project" and "Restore from online family site" and download from the website to your now active computer.
When ready to switch to the first computer again, you first need to be sure to have "synced" the other computer back to the website. Then, on the first computer, do the "File-Restore Project" and "Restore from online family site" again.
It's an extra step or two, but it allows me the freedom I want. Maybe by version 22 or so they'll be able to handle multiple instances of their software...who knows? :D
I understnad that you have some issues due to syncing with two different computers. First I would like to state that at this stage MyHeritage currently doesn't support syncing from two different computers to the same trees. It causes a lot of trouble and unexpected results.
The recommended way to work with two computers will be the following:
1) Appoint one computer as the Family Tree Builder computer - which means that you will use the family tree builder only on that computer.
2) Appoint the other computers to work on the family site to add additional details.
I would recommend in your situation to delete the unneeded tree from the online family site using the next instructions:
I am trying to change the profile of 2 specific members. On 1 I have the option of
"Edit Site Preferences", I do not have this option on the other. These 2 people are complaining about the site notifications sending their ages. I just want to remove them from receiving these notifications. I do not want to change my family tree information.
Thank you for writing and we appreciate your paitence regarding this matter.
There could be a couple of reasons as to why this may happen:
1) You looked into two profile pages of individuals in your tree and found that you have one invited member and the other profile page wasn't connected to the site member's email.
What happens is that everytime you invite a person with his email you will automatically create a Membership for him in MyHeritage. This membership will have all the options you have to control your own account including to check whether or not you would like to receive notifications.
It could be that you also invited a member but didn't connect him to the individual on the tree with the same name. Which means that the profile is not connected to the membership profile which means that it would lack these options.
2) Another possibility is that the profile that you have less options for, could actually be an invited member, but it is also possible that he is invited to more than one sites.
What I mean by this is that this member could be a member of your site, but also of his own site. We allow you to edit the settings of a member in your site only if he has one membership in one site - and it is yours.
The reason for this would be to protect the privacy of members, to resolve conflicts if two site managers edit the same member profile and etc.
Let me know if it helps you understand, and if you have more questions I would be more than happy to answer you further.
I have the same issue. I can't seem to notice a pattern to the problem. It has happened when I 've been online, and offline. When online, I have never been on the My Heritage website. I agree that the problem is annoying!
I would say in the past 4 months it seems like FTB started to lock up periodically and now will lock up several times per day. Besides this fact the module which is for "Place - City State" will show warnings "not connected to internet". Also, as soon as you input data or change data for 1-person, the program takes over and will re synchronize the entire file. At this rate, you will average one person every 45 minutes, and no sarcasm!
For awhile I would utilize my FTM program from Ancestry due to its flawless and much faster, however importing/exporting gedcoms and deleting old file from MyHeritage and uploading updated files is getting to be a pain. I prefer MyHeritage over Ancestry, but this is rediculous.
Thank you for writing us in the forums and I'm sorry to hear that you have a negative experience with our software.
I would like to comment on the issue that you are experiencing with the Places lookup - we are aware of this and it should be fixed by our developers, they are working on it.
Regarding the lockups, it seems by your description that you are possibly working with the automatic sync on. If it causes trouble for you I would recommend you to disable it by going to Tools > Options > Sync > Automatically sync... - disable that function.
So I haven't used FTB in quite some time now, but see that there is now an option to allow other members of a Family site to edit the tree (a FTB generated tree) while still having it sync with FTB.
This is great and I've waited a while for this feature, but I wanted to confirm something before I started using this feature.
If I (as site owner) change the settings from FTB to allow others to edit the tree will I have the option to review the edits others make before they sync with my FTB? If so will I will be able to review (and accept) them one by one? Or will all the changes made to the website tree automatically sync with my FTB tree?
I've been using windows only in Virtual Box in Linux for a few years now. I started using your program in a virtual box and it worked fine except that I've NEVER been able to sync with the online version and still can't.
I resorted to doing all of my work online which is much more difficult to do with not having right click available, and many more usability issues concerning online vs desktop.
My question is, do you have or plan to offer non-windows version? I am a premium member, and would be happy to beta test and/or pay more for Linux version.
Thank you for writing us in the forums and we appreciate your patience with the syncing problems (I have sent you a private email to try and resolve that problem).
We currently have plans for a Mac version, and I'm sure that as time progresses we will start to consider more and more making a Linux version as well. However, it mainly depends on the amount of requests we get from our customers. If we see that a lot of our members use Linux then we may speed up this process.
Currently there are no plans for a Linux version though.
It really is about time you did develop a version for Linux. You say that you are waiting for members to express an interest, but to be honest that won't happen because anyone using Linux is unlikely to be a member, given that your software isn't compatible. You have developed a mobile version which runs on Android - a linux based development, so how much harder would it be to extend that to linux?
I've been a member for some time, but I don't currently use your product because I no longer use windows - I would love to be able to come back!
In this blogpost from the 13th of April 2013, part of the post state: "We've started working on adding support for Mac OS X too. Mac users, please lend us your patience, we're working to bring Family Tree Builder to you too."
I feel rather silly still waiting for this. Too bad Mac users are not able to get the same features as PC users have, and the online version requires too much manual work to be viable for a large family tree.
"More important issues" in this case (over 2 years of no action) is like saying "Mac users go away".
Please note that we do understand your frustration and know that it would seem like the same message is being sent over and over again.
This is true however for the platforms to be supported this requires the development team to dedicate a lot of time towards getting this up and running and as I have previously mentioned this may take some time due to the fact that they are working on more pressing issues effecting current platforms.
As far as to estimate how long this would take, I wouldn't want to casue you and other users any further frustrations by giving a time line to this as it is out of my hands.
Again to reiterate, we do understand the frustration this may be causing and can only apologize for this not taking place.
