Is it possible to somehow add old house number which is not already in the map? I don't want to use whone name of city, today's street and number. I would like to use just "City, no. 5". But with this, FTB is not able to locate it in the map.
Also thre is a problem with suggestions. If I put a city name, it sometimes suggest two same alternatives in case this city is twice in one country. It would be better with some other attribute.
to make it simpler for the MH mapping system I put only the main details in the 'place' box.
for example, for a death; Bendigo, Victoria, Australia (Always use the State and Country).
And that gets a white check-mark in a green circle, the system has recognised the address.
And then in the Description box I put, in this case, Bendigo Hospital; that doesn't affect the MH place recording.
BTW if you (double?) click in the little box at the end of the place box (where that check mark can appear) it brings up a menu where you can make selections.
Also if there two places in the one state with the same name ('state' will perhaps differentiate between most places of the same name) you could put something in the description box such as 'near...' (the nearest notable town).
I have downloaded Family Tree Builder but cannot get the software to install. I have a PC and haven't had this problem with other software that I've downloaded. Please help because I'm getting VERY frustrated!
The priority is the website tree. The reason is very simple: if you have family members working on the family tree, they are only able to edit the tree online. If Family Tree Builder (FTB) would be considered the priority on the syncing, it would always override the changes and additions that the site members added to the family tree online.
FTB -- or rather, MyHeritage as a whole -- should not assume control over a user's/family's data; knowlege of the subtlties of the data and relationships is far beyond the capacities of computer programs or administrators judgement's. A time-stamped log of changes since last sync should be kept and displayed by the Sync function before merging proceeds.
I agree - a log of changes would be great and the ability to review all changes made would allow recovery or correction if undesirable changes were made. A transaction based process that allow a roll-back of undesired changes would be even better.
Perhaps the user could also be given a choice between manual and automatic sync. In manual sync mode the user could be notified of conflicts and make a choice, rather than the software just automatically resolving all conflicts.
The time-stamp is already recorded - so could used for record management. The time-stamp is displayed at the bottom of each card in FTB. An improvement would be to also record the username - i.e. who made the change. An even bigger and better improvement would be to also display this information online, say at the top of the details panel to flag that a record has been recently updated.
Thank you for your post here on the forum and for your suggestions. We are constantly improving the way that our software works and suggestions from our users are always taken into consideration when upgrades happen.
With regards to 'Manual' and or 'Automatic Sync' of the FTB software, you do actually have the ability to choose either of the two options. The following is a link from our Help centre that I have provided for you with information and instructions on how to disable the automatic sync process.
With regards to changes made by other fmaily site members. I would advise before entering into your FTB software that you always log into your onine family site first. Within the Home page you will have the latest changes made to your family tree and the name of teh person that made them in the 'Family News' section. This gives you the opportunity to review the changes or additions that have been made.
in case that we found during the review on family web that last updates made by someone else are (from administrator perspective) incorrect - as you suggest - is it possible to quickly remove them (not the way that we have to manually edit them again one by one) before we sync them to Family Tree builder application?
You ask if it possible to quickly remove any updates/edits made whilst within your online family site. If you are meaning is there a 'Multiple' fix/remove tool, then unfortuantely not. You would need to go to each of the updates/edits that have been made and correct or remove them one by one before syncing the site back to your Family Tree Builder Software.
This may sound like a lot of work especially if there are multiple edits made to the family tree however this will prevent any unnecessary mistakes and make sure that you catch all updates and not get suprised once you sync the tree back to the software.
Re: Manual Sync. Manual sync isn't deciding not to sync, or deciding when to sync, AND then waiting for sync to finish. Manual sync is seeing each record that will be synced and manually confirming to sync or not sync that record. i.e. Manual confirmation of the record change before it is made, rather than the software automatically making the choice of what changes will be made.
Re: home page list of changes. My home page does not list *all* changes made. It lists a summary only. E.g. A family member changed w, x, y, z and 18 other people in the family tree. If the person changes more than four records on any given day, then the list of changes a summary only. I am not aware of how to look at all the changes that were made.
Suggestions:- If each change was time-stamped (as it is in FTB) and if a log of changes was kept, and made available to site managers, then there would be an easy way to review all changes made to the site AND the person making the changes AND the day and time of the changes.
This is not so much a complaint as an observation and a request... but MH seems to be built more for a single person editor than for a collaboration between multiple editors. Helping out family where there are mulitple people collaborating would not be hard to do - if MH could only see the need and have the desire to do it. Keeping track of changes would be the first big step in this direction - who changed, what and when. Showing site manages a log of these changes would be the next big improvement. I suspect you already record the first bit, so it is probably only a matter of making a change-log available to site managers. ....AND, putting the FTB time-stamp on the bottom of the details panel would be great too! :)
Happens to me too, but for me in most cases it is hanging on 25%....
At 45% it starts uploading new pictures which takes time and remains at 45% for a while (if lots of new pics),
but I can notice in task manager's network activity that pictures are uploading once this is done again % strts increasing
(and between 72% and 78% it sometimes goes very slow)
Didn't face this issue (except 45% stall which is 'normal') until last weeks were it is almost daily occuring. After retrying same or next day it goes on...
Is it related to the tree size?? Did I cross some tresshold?? Or is it unstable/overloaded MH server??
It happens all the time and my tree is over 80,000. Don't worry. Usually I get a sync failed box message. Just try another time. Make sure you do a save to your local disk and keep a seperate backup whenever you can. It has taken me three or four tries at times.
My sister and I have been working on separate trees. We decided to try to merge them into one, but I can't find out how.
I tried to syncronize both trees into one webpage, and I tried to import both trees into one project on FTB. They won't merge, however, they only become two separate trees, even if all the names show up in the same name list on FTB. I tried the "find duplicates" also, but it only gave me a few, and the only option was to "ignore", so that didn't work.
In the end I deleted one of the parallell trees from the web. Then the other one wouldn't sync, so I deleted that one too to see if it would reconnect. It wouldn't. So now my tree isn't on the web anymore, and I am no closer to merging anything with my sister's tree. I guess I am looking at rewriting it all manually. That is, if not anybody here has some good ideas for me?
