You can't do any bulk stuff re people or profile management in MH FTB other than through the Find and Replace edit function which only addresses text strings. One of the programmes biggest failings......of course you have the Tools...Options settings but they cannot be indivdually selective...it is all or nothing stuff.
I realised that the problem was that I had different language settings in the original tree and in the imported gedcom-file. They weren't that many so I fixed them manually. I'll watch out for this if I ever try to merge a larger file...
But it is strange that I can see the names in the "wrong" language in the list and in the tree in FTB, but I can't find them in the edit profile-box.
(a bigger problem is actually that the gedcom-file I started from is old, from a time when computers didn't handle Swedish characters very well -- quite a few of my ancestors from "Älgsjöhöjden, Säfsnäs, Nås" have been replaced to "lgsjhjden, Sfsns, Ns"... I noticed there is a search and replace function, but there are a lot of names and places that have to be fixed).
In December 2014, I experienced a synchronizing problem. The process was initiated but freezed at step 3, while sending data to the website. It seems reading the data from the website worked. I sent a request to the support but before they replied the problem was solved.
For several months synchronizing worked correctly. Then yesterday April 12, the problem came back... :-(
It seems to me that the problem is on MyHeritage side: I changed nothing to my system and I also noticedyesterday that I was not able to download a proper copy of FTB last version (the file was corrupted).
Reading data from my MyHeritage website and importing modifications done directly on the website works correctly as this is done in the synchronizing process during step 1 and 2. But sending modifications done in the FTB local application to the website is presently impossible for me. I even added and exception in my Avira anti-virus system for the FTB application.
Waiting for help from the support. Ticket created.
I am having problems with the SYNC it has been way over 2 month since I had a full SYNC in fact each time I try to SYNC it will run over 25 hours then for what ever reason will crash the server and the only % I have got to is 58% SYNC, I have tryed this so many times I have lost count yes I understand I have a large amount of info/pictures over 9000 pictures and documents but it should not take 25-30 hours running to SYNC
I have a repeated problem synchronizing my Tree Builder and my Family Tree. I even had support look at it and they couldn't fix it. Often I have to hit sync 3-4 times and then it works. Rarely it works on the first time. I get an error in the logs "unexpected server errors". I'm wondering whether MyHeritage is not equipped to scale on the server.
I'm scared to upload more than 1-2 pictures at a time because of the hanging.
If anyone figures out a solution, let me know.....
As synchronization issues differ from user to user, unfortunately there is no general advice I can give. If anyone has issues with their sync, I would recommend to send an e-mail directly to our Support team at email@example.com. I have sent you a personal e-mail so that we can resolve the matter.
As I experienced sync problems from FTB to my website (transfert freezing at step 4, 45%), I wanted to check if I had the last FTB version. The FTB internal update system check told me my 7.0.0 Build 7128, nov 2013 was the last one... But a quick check on the web informed me of a 7143, mar 2015!
I tried to download the new version. File was corrupted and impossible to get... I had to go to Cnet Download system to get a clean 7143 setup application !!!
I noticed that the OS X version recently made available is stamped 7.2.0 Build 7149, January 2015! In fact it is a Windows version encapsulated with Crossover by Codeweavers...
The "What's new in 7.2" puts in front "A full sync with website" but when you click on "Read more" you are directed to the 7.0 "What's new"...
When will we get this 7.2 version for Windows directly? I have a Mac but don't using it: the data format is different and I wouldn't be able to share it with the version on Windows...
By the way, upgrading to this version did no solve my sync problem... :-(
I have the impression that there are three official versions of FTB:
One when you check inside FTB
one when you use the FTB website
and the most recent one that is available from an official MH URL.
Since I have started using FTB it has always been this way...
By the way, when you are on the MH website that opens upon starting FTB try to enter into the status line the 7.2. version that was mentioned above. You will be welcomed to using version 7.2. That was what I experienced.
MyHeritage offers to build your family tree through the online site and the Family Tree Builder software on your desktop (the FTB). There are two main versions of the FTB: The Windows version (most recent - 18.104.22.16843) and the Mac version (most recent - 22.214.171.12449) that is adapted from the Windows version.
However, there are indeed several ways to download these versions. For example, you may download it from the MyHeritage site. You could also use the direct link that was mentioned earlier or you can update through the FTB itself.
So why when I check for udates am I told that my 2014 version is the latest?
Your reply was completly disingenuous and incorrect and didnt come close to answering the initial question.
When I run the update wizard I am told my version 126.96.36.19938 is fully up to date. Please explain when you have advised the latest version is 188.8.131.5243.
What's the excuse for that?
The FTB programme has not had any major upgrades in two years and promised changes and enhancements remain just that...promises. What are we paying for? A storage facility? Time this programme was brought into the 21st century instead of being an old legacy of DOS programming with third party bolt ons.
I suspect this post will be deleted but will repost it regardless.
I am following all directions to import a gedcom (exported from RootsMagic 7) ..... it gets to loading and then I get "The GEDCOM file could not be imported." ...... I have tried this with several gedcoms now, but get the same result each time. Any suggestions? .. Thanks.
Try checking your GEDCOM against https://chronoplexsoftware.com/gedcomvalidator/
Also check that you have not hit the limit of your account subscription for the total number of people you can import
ok ..... I checked with the validator ..... it did find a couple of error that I don't know what to do about. ...... also, I closed the program and went back and was able to get one of them ....... as far as I know it is a full subscription (FamilySearch affiliated) ........... I guess I need to go back to the manual and see if I can figure out what I am doing wrong.
