On the family site, when you are on the step 3 of the chart creation page, "Customize chart", you can delete your name and start typing where now appears your own name, the name of a person you would like to be the main person on the chart. By starting typing the name, a list of people will appear for you to choose the person on the tree.
One my family member from one family side made family tree. And one family member from second family side made family tree. And in my close family these trees are identical. Is it possible to connect these two trees?
This is not exactly the answer to your question, it is more about whether you would want to connect the trees at all!
In my case I have a large family tree for myself; and a separate one for my wife and her family.
And I WANT the trees to stay separate, otherwise, if I joined them, the tree would be much too big.
Separated, the trees are easier to follow, too.
So I have simply put myself, my parents, my wife and her parents, and our children and spouses and their children, our siblings and their spouses and children, INTO EACH TREE; so that someone looking at either tree can also see just our closest family
And I have chosen to record everyone else "below" us in MY tree; nephews and nieces and their wives and husbands and children, and our great-grandchildren when they come....all in MY tree.
Not that it matters which tree but I had to make a decision.
I am looking for Parents and family of Marcella Jane Knight. She was born 2 November 1840 Schoolcraft, Michigan, United States. She was married to Chandler Soule Whittier and had three children Edin Whittier, Gancello Chandler Whittier,Henry C Whittier. I did find this census on family search that may link her to her parents, https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/M4DK-KRZ
Curently we are experiencing a problem with the uploading of GEDCOMS directly to the onine family site. You are promised an email however this does not happen. This does not happen due to the GEDCOM not being uploaded.
We are working to resolve this and hopefully have this back up and working in the very near future.
Until the problem is fixed, there is a workaround for it. What you can do is download the Family Tree Builder (FTB) Software to your computer and then upload your GEDCOM file into the software. Once the GEDCOM is uploaded to the software you will then be able to sync(publish) the family tree to the online family site.
Should you not have the FTB Software then you will be able to simply click here and this will take you to the download page. Once you have downloaded the FTB software you will need to locate the file and click on this to activate the installation. (usually found in the 'downloads' folder of your Pc)
After you have the FTB software installed you will need to now follow the instructions in the below link to import your GEDCOM to the FTB software.
My family has 2 brothers married with 2 sisters. While Myheritage is clever enough to match entries around the world, it doesn´t match the same people within the same family tree. Is there any way of linking people within the same family tree to avoid duplications?
Hi Felipe, thanks for your reply, but that menu is not shown when clicking in , therefore I cannot make a connection with an existing member. Is there any way to make this menu visible? Please see image attached.
Hi, I started my Family Tree using FTB about 4 years ago. Then this year I added another family tree for my husbands family to the Site. I invited some of my immediate family to become members of the 1st Family Tree, but now that I have added my husbands family tree these members are receiving notifications when I change his site and well as mine.
Is there any way I can select which Family Tree people are members of so that they only see that Family Tree and not both. I hope this makes sense. Thanks
The invited members are a site members. That means, that they can see all the trees included in the site they were invited for. For example, if I have the "John Web Site" and inside of it I have "Family tree 1" and "Family tree 2", my site members invited to the "John Web Site" will be able to see both trees.
I also started with FTB about 4 years ago but I set up four separate trees, one for each of my four derivative families. They overlap, of course, but many of the entries in each, particularly the earlier ones, are really of little l interest to those who is in one of the other 3 family trees.
My question is - how does one indicate at a particular family tree site that the other trees exist, and how to access each of these sites directly? A single integrated tree would seem be much too unwieldy to handle.
If you use the application Family Tree Builder, you can set the required order of names from the application menu
Tools -> Options -> Names (Display people's names, Last name for married people)
If you use only the online version at MyHeritage.com you can set in 'Options'. Logon in your family site, click the tab. 'Family Tree', click the icon 'Option' (next to the field 'Find a person...'). Then click 'Name preferences'
Truly, the patronimic Scandinavian tradition for names is less easy to deal with on the tree.
Nonetheless, if you use the instructions I gave previously in this post to our colleague, to change how the names are displayed on the site, regarding the married names.
Regarding the children, you can always manually change the names. When you add a new relative to a person, on the window that opens for you to add names, dates of birth, etc, you can simply add the patronimic name of that child, therefore following the tradition for: Anders Svensson > Magnus Andersson > Jonas Magnusson, etc...
yesterday I posted the following question in this forum concerning missing information in "< Family tree summary >"
I would like to ask why MyHeritage changed definition/behavior of "< Family tree summary >". This definition contains basic information about the tree published online and can be displayed in the welcome page of the family site. Currently this information contains only this text "Our family tree is posted online on this site! There are 894 names in our family site." (In case of my site, other sites have of course different number of names in the family tree).
In the past used to be displayed also information about the latest event (birth, death) and the oldest event (birth, death) in the tree. This information is missing since beginning of January 2015. Is there any reason for this?
Thank you very much for your answer.
I am afraid this post was deleted by MyHeritage Support from this forum after I got the following reply via email:
"Dear Mr. Zahradníček,
Thank you for contacting us here at support. We understand that you may be a little frustrated to see that the 'First' and 'Last' recorded events for your family site have disappeared from your Home page welcome text.
There is a simple reason for us doing this. As part of our optimization and improvements to the family web site we had noticed that within the Home page start up algorithms that the user was having to wait longer than we would like for the home page to load.
This is caused by the system calculating the first and last event from within your family tree automatically
To decrease the waiting time for the user and to enhance the overall experience with us, we are constantly looking for ways to make the site a faster and a more pleasurable experience, hence the reason we stopped this automatic calculation.
Having said that, this does not mean that all is lost.
What you will need to do now is to simply click on the "Edit this text" option and then manually enter the first recorded event from your family tree and also the last known recorded event into the respective area of the text.
We do apologize for any frustration this may have caused you however we are sure that you will understand and appreciate the effort taken into making the site a more user friendly environment.
MyHeritage Support team"
I would like to ask MyHeritage Support if there is other way how to get back this functionality in the welcome page of the family site. The proposed way "What you will need to do now is to simply click on the "Edit this text" option and then manually enter the first recorded event from your family tree and also the last known recorded event into the respective area of the text." is not the solution at all. The original functionality in "< Family tree summary >" also displayed relationship of the site member being logged to the person in the latest/newest event.
Thank you very much in advance.
I am trying to get some help with the default profile photo - the personal photo - for each person in my tree.
Does anyone know if there is an easy way in the Online Site to change the personal photo. If I have people with several photos, is there an easy way to make one of those photos the default photo, rather than uploading a new photo?
