In reporting to the Support group that my tree was missing a complete branch, I was told something to the effect that they have to trim the branches, thus, the new "leaves" option. However, on looking thru the forum I find someone else who has reported this same problem and is being told that it is a bug and they are working on it and hope to have it fixed soon. Consequently, I am confused and indeed hoping that is is a "bug" and not the future look of the site. It does not make sense to me that all of a sudden I can't view my tree in the same manner...I have not added anyone to it in a long time and was able to view it with all branches available at once (at least 3 or 4 generations. I enjoy seeing both maternal and paternal sides when I am cruising around in the site...don't like being isolated to one side of family. Also really dislike opening up the Family Tree option and seeing one whole side of the screen blank...not aesthetically pleasing!!!! Also, don't like for the information (list) to open automatically...I like to be able to view tree full screen and only open info when I choose. Please tell me this isn't the future for the website...if so, it has ruined my enjoyment of it....
Hi can someone tell me how to fix this please? I want to be able to see all members of both sides of the tree, and all the people in the index on the left - not a leaf and it only showing half of the story. Can you please tell me how I fix this because it's only started last night on my tree and it's driving me bonkers already
Does it come into play when you have a certain amount of people in your tree?
I am building this so my 'older' family memebers can see their family tree and it's harder to teach them how to view the tree with this, sorry, unwelcome addition.
I think there is a misunderstanding here. We don't show all the branches AT ONE TIME. It's simply physically impossible to graphically display trees beyond a certain size in a way that makes sense. So we break the trees down into family groups or branches for display purposes only.
The entire tree is there, it's just a matter of navigating through the tree. We also offer many ways to do this. You can type a name in the search box on the left, you can click on a branch icon in the tree, you can use the People page to search for names.
There are also lots of great charts and reports you can create, including the All In One chart, to display the family tree and print it out on paper either for gifts or for your own research.
Hi Michelle...I fought this change tooth and nail for a long time....like you, I thought it was just a problem that could be corrected. But it seems to be a change that we are stuck with. It does change the whole dynamic of enjoying the tree by being able to see both expanses of ancestry on both sides of family. It ruined the whole experience for me and consequently, I don't visit my tree very often anymore. Wish they had given us an option to accept it or not.... I never could get an answer from them as to whether the number of people in the tree was the determining factor or not. Just out of curiosity, how many people are in your tree? Do let them know you don't like the change...doubt that it will change things, but it could hurt to let them know we don't like it...Joan
I miss the being able to see people of the same generation across different branches. I did not find it slow. The change has dampened my desire and interest in visiting my site which I have earnestly worked on for over two years. . It does not have an asthetically balanced appearance...just looks like something is missing...which it is!!!!!! I think it makes it less appealing not only for myself but for my site members.
I wish you would give us options for accepting the changes that are so drastic as this one....I wonder if Ing and I are a minority in our thinking...Joanie
Esther...I think you have covered my dilemma in your communication with Ingrid, ie. that since you added the leaves, we are now unable to view the same generation of people across the different branches. When my site is at the Home position I can see my husband, myself, my children, and my maternal and paternal side, I have to click on my husband's leaf to see his branch of the family. (this view leaves one side of the screen totally blank creating a totally unbalanced and non-aesthetically pleasing view. When I go into my parents view, I have to click on their leaves which let's me view only one side at a time. This eliminates being able to view both maternal and paternal sides of each family at the same time. If I understand correctly, this is your new change (pruning the tree) to make things operate smoother and faster I believe is what you said. I wish that we were given an option to accept or decline these changes. This one has ruined the site for me...Joan
Hi Esther--There is nothing wrong with my tree either on FTB or published on-line. All 1467 persons are there. The problem is with the display. Only one branch is displayed and you have to click on a person with a leaf to get to another branch. In the List on the left only a portion of the 1467 people are searchable. At the bottom of the list it tells you how many of the 1467 are listed--about 400 or so. A few months ago the whole page used to be filled with people and all 1467 names were listed and searchable--I would like that fully functional again. I thought I was perhaps doing something wrong until I saw the same was happening in other trees on websites that are accessible to me. Thank you for your quick response.
We have changed the way that the family tree is displayed online, to make the trees easier to see and faster.
Although we no longer list all of the people that are currently shown in the your tree in a list on the left of the screen, you can search for anyone in your tree in the new search bar right above your tree. This will bring you to that person in your tree.
We are sorry that you cannot see the whole tree at once, but the tree is pruned, so that whatever branch you are looking at is clear and loads efficiently.
I much prefer the slower but complete way. Could you make it an option? By the way, the searchable list seems to be confined to the number of people that are designated/calculated to be in that branch, sometimes as few as four! Using the 'People' in the (NOT new) toolbar is very slow and clumsy.
BUT 1, before there was two tabs, person and list.
With those tabs it was easy to navigate and still have the tree to the right.
And sometimes you just need the personslist to check and compare with the tree.
Now you have to click the Person in top menu, and then you are leaving the tree.
The view with the tabs was easy to handle, now it feels as user friendly as before.
BUT 2 : The biggest problem is that branches in the tree are unpredictibly cut. Before you could see the whole tree spreading out generations backward on both sides of the family (my parents, all the grandparents, all great grandparents....).
NOW for example an pair of grand grandparents (or just one of them) suddenly are replace with an branch-antenna.
NOW you are loosing the great picture of the family tree, the overview is lost. And that was the great strength with MyHeritage.
OK that it was slow sometimes, but there must be a better balance with speed and correct presentation.
It is so nice to know I am not the only one suffering from the dilemma of My Heritage's new presentation. You explained it so aptly in your last reply to Esther. I am all for change, but not when it is a step backwards. I never even questioned the speed, but rather just reveled in seeing the whole spread at one time...aesthetically balanced and beautiful. My Heritage is the only family tree program I have seen that presents it so beautifully..or I should say presented I guess...they have really dropped the ball on this one. They should at least give us an option to accept or refuse the different presentation.
