Last night our online page got changed to the New Design and I wonder if it's possible to revert these changes so we can continue with the old design.
The disadvantages I notices straight away:
- People Search: No colours (pink/blue) for gender making it difficult to search names with specific gender! Much easer to see it on the old design with the 2 colours for each gender?
- Personal Details: In the old Design, I just needed to select a person to see all their details on the left, like Marriage, Occupation, etc. In the new Design I have to click at least through 3 different windows to "find" this information. There is no more easy way to access personal details without clicking around making it difficult for elder members of our online page to find important information!
Can you please change our page to the old design which had more advantages compared to the new design!
I can understand that you might have doubts when you find the online tree you're familiar with has changed. Be on the look out for an email to your inbox from me.
In the meantime here is some general information as to the change that you and the forum community may find useful.
What's so great about the new tree?
The look of the tree hasn't changed much so you don't need to relearn how to use the tree. Viewing, navigating and searching the tree is basically the same and editing the tree is very much the same as well.
There are some nice additions though, like the Radar, which allow you to see a "map" of the tree and instantly jump to any place. In the previous version if you wanted to travel through the tree, you had to click and drag endlessly to get anywhere.
The new tree editor only has one style (or view) right now - the Classic view has been discontinued - but that will change as we're adding some new styles so you will still be able to see the tree in the view you like best.
In the new online tree when you hover over a person or click on that person's card in the tree you get their basic information, rather than seeing it on the left hand side in a panel. This gives you a lot more real estate for viewing the family tree in context and it also shows you information about people in a more dynamic, integrated fashion. If before you had to click on each person in the tree to see their basic info, now all you have to do is move your mouse around to anyone and their info immediately pops up.
We streamlined the editing options. For example, in the previous version of the family tree editor you also had a lot of other options that didn't really belong in the ADD phase. All those options have appropriate places now that make much more sense. There are more flexible options for adding dates in the new tree editor. You can add dates like "before", "after", "from...to...", etc. Adding and editing marriages and partnerships is quicker now too as the fields are located in the instant, basic editing fields.
Birthday and anniversary notifications are bigger and brighter, add me cards show you where you need to add more ancestors, you can invite people directly from the tree by adding email addresses and more.
An important change in the new online family tree is that it is now HTML5 based. This means you can access and edit the tree from any mobile device or tablet, which was not possible before. The switch to HTML5 also made it possible for us to offer editing in the MyHeritage app, which is great for people who edit their trees online - you can now truly edit your tree anywhere, anytime.
Family Tree Builder users will also benefit from editing in the new tree as version 7.0 of the program will offer the ability to make edits online and integrate them into your tree in the program.
We're really starting to bring together all the different aspects of MyHeritage to give you a more seamless experience.
There are a lot of good things about the new online family tree. I hope you will give the new online family tree a try and come to appreciate the improvements we've made.
Having said that we have the ability to change your tree back to Classic view until the time we finally discontinue it.
Classic view will be discontinued in the near future, so keep in mind the change I'm making is temporary.
For this to happen you will need to contact the support team via the contact form that you will see in blue at the top of this forum page.
Sorry , you may have to grin and bare as in the past, no amount of consumer pressure, wants or realistic thinking has EVER changed the MH team concept. What they think is REAL and Factual, and what you and the other others think- is on no consequence.
I dont argue if its relative-- I just bpoint out that users opinions carry no weight- if the TEAM have decided then THAT descion rules.
Its is a business not a democratic procewss.
Complian all you want, but I bet you any thing you like- it will NOT change just becuse you and hoepfuly others express a negative viewpoint.
If we were dealing with a sharholder based "board of directors" or someother democratic process ,we, the user , may have some effect. But in an autrocratic fucnctioning buisness- not so. The masses only matter if they dont renew!!
I'm getting a lot of emails from myheritage sites that I'm a member of; including calenders and updates. I don't want to recieve them; so i'm forced to go through and manually unsubscribe from emails on each site. Could it be possible to make it so that I can simply go into my account and click a box that keeps me off the page's email list for updates and calenders?
I beleive that the following information will assist you with both of the steps that you have mentioned.
If you built your family tree on your family site on MyHeritage.com and would like to start using Family Tree Builder please follow these steps to transfer the file to Family Tree Builder:
1) Open the Family Tree Builder software. If you don’t have the software installed, click here to download the latest version.
2) From the top menu, choose File > Restore Project.
3) In the restore screen, choose ’Restore from online family site’ and click ‘Next’.
4) The next screen will display all family trees that exist under your account. Choose the family trees you want to restore and click ‘Download now’.
5) If the family tree contains any photos, you will be prompted to restore the photos from your family site.
That’s it! Your family tree should be restored from your online family site.
I get tons of emails about peoples trees I have no clue about and there is quite a few clicks to slowly get yourself removed from their newsletters.
Also I see daily I am joining tons of other websites (they add me against my will I guess because I have a large tree)
and removing myself from those sites is slow and cumbersome and on one site I can't even remove my self because they made me a site admin, and quite frankly I almost deleted their site in anger the other night...
How do I stop every other person in here adding me th their sites and newsletters, and how do I remove all the sites I am memner of without spending the next week doing this slowly one by one, and lastly, how do I quit as a site manager thet I don't want to be...
This is out and out BS.....thanks for the post.....Now I know I don't want to join..I jsu read all the millions they have taken in and then they "Can't" stop some minor BS like this......I want a site that servers me not put my shit out tot he world...
I did invite another another heritage member. In a email I received, asked for a password. I as the administrator, am only one that will have edit privilages. But members will be allowe dlook at tree. Now I notice a relpy button next to his name. What is this? After searching help section, I am not seeing anything on this. So am anyone for some input on this.
The family tree I have established is now telling me I am my own mother. When I click my profile it says "your daughter" and when I click my mothers profile it says "you". There seems to be no place where I can click this is me or similar to correct this.
