Brand new to this app/site and wondering if it will meet my needs. I would like to construct a family tree and upload articles and pictures and attach them to specific people in the tree. Is that possible? Thank you
I have a few people that all I know about them are pieces of information like "she was my grandfather's aunt". I don't know if that's a maternal aunt, or paternal aunt, whether she was a first or second level aunt. All I know is that the person was quite closely related.
How can I add people like that to my tree so I can track them? Is there a way to mark a relationship between people as speculative? For example I suspect two people were brothers, but according to some sources they were cousins. Is there a way to mark the relationship as such (other than the notes field, which is somewhat of a black hole - you have to know something is there and look for it in order to see it, so it's less than ideal)
Add the person to your note section with one of your positive relations so you have a record of it, once you have their identity confirmed you can enter with their own I.D. I use my Note Section to store all sorts of info, hope this is helpful. Not a good idea to add "speculative" members to your tree.
Is it no longer possible to create the thumbnail photo for a person in my online family tree direct from a tagged photo in the album? If one has to download a photo again for the family tree, the result is not as good by far, as one doesn't get a close-up of the face.
For me, the same thing happened. It was this summer when I installed the Family Tree Builder. In this connection disappeared thumbnail pictures on all profile pages and also in the family tree. I decided therefore to remove the FTB and not use it anymore. Now when I tag someone In a picture no new thumbnails are created in someone's profile or in the family tree. How do I fix this?
The images that was uploaded before I tried the FTB was left in the online album and went to tag again for a while after I removed the FTB. The same thing happens now when I try to tag someone in these earlier uppladade images.
The relevant family tree has the source FTB (even though I don't use the FTB anymore). Residual family tree has the source GEDCOM. How do I fix this?
I (hypothetically) have a person in my FTB tree named xxxOxxx. I notice the typo(?) and re-spell the name xxxAxxx. Unbeknownst to me, a site-visiting Member "corrects" the name to xxxExxx. Next day I sync. What will the person's name turn out to be?
My name is Arthur Buhrman and my e-mail address is BuhrmanP@aol.com. I am posting this reply accordingly. If the name Art Price or the user-id BuhrmanFTB appears anywhere here or nearby, there is a security flaw in Forum operation.
Should a family site member edit a detail within your online family tree and you then open your FTB software and sync any of the new changes from the online family site then this will also change the specific details within your FTB software.
However should you not wish for this to happen you have the option to adjust your settings for who is allowed to edit details in the family tree through your online family web site.
To do this you will need to log into your online family web site and then move the mouse over the "Family Tree" tab and select "Manage Trees". Once directed to the manage tree section you will then need to select "Edit tree settings" and here you will have the option to choose under permissions one of the following:
1. All site members (recommended).
2. All site managers.
3. Only you.
You may wish to select option number 2 which will allow you and members of your family site that you have promoted to "Site Manager" status to edit details within the online family tree.
My question needs clarification. If my FTB tree and the site tree have both had a datum change, which change will survive the sync? Does the site or my home tree have fixed precedence, or is there a change date/time consideration?
Wishing to learn what Members could and coul not do to my online site without plaguing this forum with a host of questions, I decided to invite my evil twin ("Arthur Price") to be a member. Using an alternate email handle (BuhrmanXP), I issued the invitation, and all reponses from the MH online pages were positive and assuring ("we have sent a message"). But I (BuhrmanXP) have not received an email, and I (BuhrmanP) do not see a new name in the Members list in my online site. (Me and Myself both live in aol.com.)
Ah hah! An answer before I even asked my next question!
I came here today to report that, using my alias (BuhrmanXP), I went directly to the online site from my browser and succeeded in modifying a profile; a subsequent sync verified the change. "Arthur Price" is listed on the site as a Member, but his email address is wrong (I haven't corrected it). What Member name did you change?
My reason for this exercise was to: (1) determine what an invited Member could and couldn't do to the site; and (2) be prepared to coach naive family members in use of invitations.
