I have a problem when editing online data (for example facts) and entering polish letters in an edit box. For example pressing "ALT s", which is the way to get letter "ś" displays in the edit box "Ĺ›". After saving and viewing the fact it still shows "Ĺ›". The same for other polish letters. Data that has been imported from GEDCOM file shows correct diacrictics.
When I publish from Family Tree Builder to my family website - a number of the 'Facts' are not displayed in full - they are chopped off. Is this a limitation of the website? Is the only way to avoid this by separating 1 fact into several facts?
Every married female in my family tree has her name displayed as specified in my Settings (First Last Married (Maiden)), except for my wife. Her name always displays as First Last Maiden. I even deleted her from my FTB tree and published, then re-added her and published. Still different than all other married females. Why? This annoys her when she receives e-mail updates, etc.
after logging onto the website, on home page there is a link for Go to family stats.
When I go there and browse through different charts, at one place data is not shown correctly.
On the chart Reports>Family statistics : Places
Places of birth. This chart only shows 3 countries where as the maximum birth happened in India but it's not shown here. I have selected Asia tab also in this chart still no luck
My unmarried daughter and her partner are parents of a child. How can I put all of the three correctly into the family tree, i. e. as unmarried partners with a common child?
I have seen several translation errors. Beside that some are rather funny, I would suggest that a community approach would speed up corrections.
Example: on the statistics it says: "Am längsten verheiratet", meaning "longest married", but it should say "am häufigsten verheiratet" in german meaning "most frequently married". Quite a subtle difference...
If your great aunt received the automatic email invitations, then she is already signed up for the site. All she has to do is click on the first link in this email, and she will be guided to the site via a 3 step 'wizard'.
The only 'tricky' thing she will have to do is fill in a new password in the first step. After she has done this, she is a full site member.
There are several bugs in online representing information uploaded by Family Tree Builder Program. To name a few:
Missing address info in the Person Panel under Family Tree Tab. Only phone number(s) and/or e-mail address are shown if present. Is it done deliberately or is it just a simple ommission? The same problem exists on Member Profile page.
Under Picture and Video Tab in a bilingual site, the picture captions, as well as the date and place, are always those from English description, even if the site displayed in a different language.
The Welcome Text from the Home Page can be edited using extended formating (bold, italic, etc). However it is shown on Home Page in a plain text mode only.
In Family Tree>Reports>Family statistics : Ages, the Ukrainian translation of "Lived the most" and "Lived the least" titles switched to opposite: "Найменша тривалість життя" and "Найбільша тривалість життя".It should be reversed.
When someone visits a site as a nonregistered visitor, the Ukrainian version of the greeting "You are not a member in this family site" should be "Ви не є учасником цього сімейного сайту", not "Ви не зявляєтесь учасником цього сімейного сайту"
I would greatly appreciate, if those bugs were fixed.
In addition, I have suggestion to place a link to a person's profile page from the Person's panel under Family Tree tab.
To continue the list of issues, here is the following:
The search in Family Tree>People is case sensitive, so wnen I search for Bodnar and bodnar, I get plenty results for the first and none for the last. The same was partially true for MyHeritage search bar in Firefox I use, particularly in the part "Research ... genealogically with MyHeritage". It used to produce different results for words with small or captital first letters (the results were also either with small or capital first letter). It looks to have changed right now, but my suspicion is that search is now performed only for capitalized words in both cases (no results with small first letters). Could you verify that?
Further the search in Family Tree>People is language sensitive. I have bilingual Ukrainian-English site, but to do the search in one of the languages I have to switch the whole site to that language. I think it would be more convenient to see the search results in both languages without need to switch to specific one.
In Member Profile Show: Events & Facts | Notes & Sources | Family the displayd sources are not complete. Only the title of the source is present, but the specifics is missing.
There are more issues with the text editors like the one I use right now. The issue can be demonstrated using my previous message (it looked as formated properly in the editor, but not now). Further I was not able to niether get rid of the table at the end of this message (introduced by pasting some text copied from the website) nor write after it.
It looks that you right, it does happen with Ukrainian letters only when searched the site in the Ukrainian language mode. English works OK. The same is true for MyHeritage bar search in Firefox (in Google custom search for MyHeritage Genealogical research, for example, try to search боднар vs Боднар vs БОДНАР vs БодНар).
This is not really a problem but rather inconvenience. Since I have bilingual site, most of the info (but not everything) is duplicated in two languages. However when I have site in Engligh language mode, I cannot search anything in Ukrainian (unless some text in English side of the site is entered in Ukrainian) and vice versa.
I will send you specific information on missing source info later when I get to my computer with the FTB program.
I am glad to hear it.
And a new question: how come that my site does not appear in the results of the online search using MyHeritage bar in Firefox? I suppose when I look for names from my family tree, I should be able to hit entries from my own site every time.
My site does appear when searched in MyHeritage Community > Family Sites > Site Center. BTW that search is also case sensitive for Ukrainian leters ( try again боднар vs Боднар vs БОДНАР vs БодНар).
I cannot find neither deceased nor alive people (by last name). As an examle, try search using http://search.myheritage.com/?q= with my grandfather's name as listed in the family site - Mefodiy Bodnar (or Мефодій Боднар in Ukrainian). Neither can be found.
As for missing information on sources, for some people in the tree I used sources that were listed as source name and source page (in FTB program). Online, only the souce title was shown on the profile page under source category.
The names from your Family Site will show in the Genealogical Search engine's database the next time we update it. For now you can only find names that were in our Database before the last update.
as for the missing notes - please send me the project to my personal mail with details.
I made a mistake and one of the individuals has a wrong parent. Later, I added a partner and children to this individual. How can I correct the parent without losing the other information? I tried to delete the individual but the entry was replaced by an "unknown" individual with the same relationships.
The reason the “unknown” shows up when you try to delete someone has to do with the way family trees are built and how the online family tree at MyHeritage works.
In standard family tree logic there must always be a man-woman pair whenever a child exists in the tree.
In order to comply with those standards, the family tree program at MyHeritage also requires a man-woman pair in order for a child to exist in the tree.
This means that anytime there is a child attached to two persons in the tree, and you try to delete one of those parents, the program is forced to keep a “person” in that place. Thus, our lovely unknown. That "unknown" can be edited and replaced with a real person later.
We are currently working on a better solution to this problem.
In the meantime, your best workaround is to make sure that there are no children attached to a person that you would like to delete. If you remove the children, you can completely remove spouse. Then you can add the children again and there won't be an "unknown" spouse there.
We understand if this is frustrating for you because, for example, there may be persons “high up” in the tree that you need to delete and it would mean deleting a lot of children in order to get to him/her. The best thing to do is EDIT the information on that person if you can rather than trying to delete him/her altogether.
Does anyone have any information about my Great Grandfather JOHN ANGUS from HOWTH, IRELAND who married an ELIZA GOODEN who was from MAYO, Ireland.
JOHN was born about 1825, he and Eliza had 8 children. JOHN was skipper of a 3 - Masted ship. I would love to know more about him and where is he buried. I can't find him in any graveyards on the internet.
