When I go into my heritage I get Lee Family 2, this comes up quickly. There are however no photographs, although the persons details are there. My first site was Crete-Fogarty-Family web site and this does not come up at all.
I only get this once I go to publish. It all seems very confusing and is not as it was originally.
Also, I find that when I invite people, some are unable toaccess the site - can you tell me why this would be.
I think there is a bit of confusion here. Let's see if we can set things straight.
I have a feeling that you have two email addresses registered at MyHeritage.com. Each email address has a family site associated with it.
Your Crete-Fogarty-Family site is still around. I visited it just now. I can see the photos in the tree there.
In order to know which site has which email address connected to it:
First, go to the Lee Family 2 site and click on Activities > Addresses. This page is your member's list. Find yourself in the list and click on your name to bring up your profile. Here you should see your email address listed.
Do the same thing for the Crete site.
Next thing to check: go to the Lee site. Click on Family Tree > Summary. This page shows the list of family trees displayed on your site. It also lists information about each family tree, such as where it came from - FTB, WEB, GEDCOM, etc.
What type of tree do you have? Was it published from FTB? Then make changes in FTB and republish.
Is it a WEB or GEDCOM tree? Then you can make changes directly on the site.
Now do the same thing for the Crete site. Go to Family Tree > Summary and check which type of tree you have there.
Regarding the problem you mention about invited members not being able to access the site, can you help me understand a bit better what happens? Do they not receive your invitation email? Are they unable to click on links in the email?
Any details you will be able to provide will help me to better advise on this issue.
I deleted my web tree in hopes that my "Family Tree Builder" version would become the default version, however now users cannot edit entries... I've tried to create a new web version which now displays and people can edit, however how can I import hte GED file that I exported prior to deletion... I.e. Restore my data?
I made my family tree with F.Tree builder in English and translated it to Russian and Hebrew. Now when I open the Individuals list on my site I see some info (names for example) in English but for several individuals the residence and birth place appears on one of the other languages.
Is it possible that data in your tree was entered partially in English and partially in Russian/Hebrew? For example, on the persons whose dates/places shows up in Russian/Hebrew, could it be that you entered that data in Russian/Hebrew and not in English?
In any case, the best thing to do is to use the Translation Wizard to automatically translate all names and places in the tree from one language to another.
Go to Tools > Translation Wizard. Choose your language pair and FTB will automatically translate most names and place names in the tree. You can manually translate any names the program didn't recognize afterward.
In your case, you should make a few different translations to make sure all data in the tree is complete for each language. Start with English to Russian. Next, Russian to English. Then do English to Hebrew and Hebrew to English.
That should cover all the data you've entered.
Let us know if you have any questions about the procedure and if this information was useful to you.
Is it possible to publish not only photos on my family mages but also video? I found already, that not all formats can be uploaded. MPG works. which other formats work?. But after uploading a video it was not possible to play the video. So how can I publish videos on my family pages correctly?
I'm sorry, but we currently don't support the publishing of videos to family sites.
It’s a good suggestion though, myHeritage takes member feedback seriously - we have made and will make a lot of improvements as a result of member feedback. Hopefully we will be supporting video publishing soon.
My last message was posted a year ago, since then we have upgraded the photos section of the site and we do support videos of many formats now.
let me know if you need any help,
What video formats DO you support? I tried to upload 3 that are in WMV format, which is (to my knowledge) one of the most widely accepted formats available. I got the message that they were in an incorrect format, but nothing told me which are accepted. If I have to change all my vids over to another format to post them, I'll just post links to youtube....I'm not gonna have multiple copies of everything.
I have some remarks about Family Pages localization in russian language.
First of all I have big troubles with inviting other members. When I invite my mom, for example, her name in the member list becomes unreadable. I worked a bit around this problem and understood, that while whole site uses UTF-8 encoding, my mother's name is in Western (ISO-8859-1) encoding. I suppose this happens because iniviting script convert name to ISO-8859-1 character encoding, or it's related to the database structure.
Also there is localization troubles between FTB and FP. While FTB displays names correctly, when I open My sites management window, I can't read normally the name of my site and the names of site members.
And two little bugs. First: moth names appears in english on my FP site, while they should be in russian (for example May instead Май). Second: at the bottom of the whole site, where language list is situated (near to copyright information), russian language shown as "русский", but more correctly is "Русский", with capital first letter.
At most multilingual internet sites russian language is presented as "Русский" or "Russian", with capital first letter. Even here, at myheritage.com, all other languages are with capital first letter. Why is here such unfairness to russian language?
And it's the least critical of all bugs I've described.
When I upload new photos some of them appear on my welcome page under "New Photos". I have 2 pictures stuck there. I have uploaded half a dozen pictures, but these two older ones are there and do not change. So instead of showing 4 new pics, I have only 2 new and 2 old.
Is there a way to change wich branch the tree follows when it comes to adoptees who know both their normal and adoptee parrents? The FTB software currently renders the adoptee tree while the website renders the biological tree. Personaly, I think it should render the adoptee branch, but would also be ok with a toggle or at least both the software and the website rendering it the same way. It may also be that I am just not seeing where to effect the change I am looking for.
