I still have a problem with loading a family tree. I get the green tree with an arroe going around it but thenit finally gives and suggests that I refresh the browser and try again -- this does not work.
1)[W&F][bug] tree entered in FTB, exported to GEDCOM and imported to the web: email address contains space at the start (not entered in FTB for sure – it's not there when shown in FTB GUI). Wrong export or import?
2)[WEB][bug] unwanted and spontaneous adding a person as a member of the site (during browsing the WEB). The action that caused this was (probably) editing the person on the WEB, specially its email (entering or even deleting email). Afterwards during browsing I found out the person was added as a member. Even the inviting emails were generated! Some checkbox would be fine after the email editbox to set whether to send the invitation or not. (Each entering the email address invoke adding the person as a member. I think it's not OK.)
3)[WEB][bug] not automatic assigning of site member to the family tree and its random and spontaneous clearing
4)[WEB][bug] entered year not shown, dates translation (Slovak): when the month in the date is February (translated shortcut Febr., can be Feb.), the year is not shown in the personal card in the Classic style; when the month is September (translated shortcut Sept., can be Sep.), the year is shown there (I can provide a screenshot). Why? (I propose also to correct the Slovak shortcuts to 3-letters.)
5) [WEB][bug] Code key for <Most popular last names in the family tree> translated to Slovak is not recognised and shows some "2J" text instead of surnames list as in English.
6)[WEB][?] I had 2 trees, with 2 members each (one of them is me in each tree, one another person). In one tree, I was the only editor for now and I could change the setting "SettingsPrivacyAddress book: Can site members post content on the site" from Yes to No. In the other tree also the second member had changed some information and here I could not change the above setting from Yes to No, but I needed to change it. How?
7)[W&F][?] I have added "Residence" info in WEB, exported to GEDCOM, imported to FTB and there was "NCHI" – Non-standard Custom Events NCHI warning after import and no entry in "Residence" field in any of persons provided this info for.
8)[WEB][bug] dates in "Family treePeople" are shown in English date mask, even it was published by FTB in Czech, where the date mask is set to Czech one.
9)[FTB][?] What format strings can be used for changing the display of the date? Now there is only %d% %m% %y% that shows e.g. 1 Feb 1990. But what about long month name, or month as a number, etc. (something like it is in Windows: (m, mm, mmm, mmmm) -> (1, 01, Jan, January), how to achieve this?
Thanks very much for your input. Your report was excellent and helped us find some bugs and feature requests which have now been reported.
Points 1, 3, 5, 7, 8 and 9 are bugs which we will work to fix or feature requests.
As to point number two: this is the way the family tree editor is meant to work. We'll take into consideration the possibility to let you turn off this feature.
Point 4: We weren't able to reproduce in our labs. Can you send a screenshot? What version of Family Tree Builder are you using? Did you import a gedcom to start working on the tree or was the tree created from scratch in FTB?
Point 6: I was able to reproduce this problem and have reported it.
Point 4: Now it is solved, maybe with the last update on the WEB. It was a tree started and developed in FTB (latest version, languages: 1. English 2. Czech), then exported to GEDCOM (language: Czech) and imported to WEB (web language: Slovak). I was wondering, why my father and some other persons have no birth year shown in Classic view in the tree (in Person view on the left in the heading - below the name, not in the Facts - there was not only year, but whole date even other persons have only year shown there; it looked like a free-text). In Modern tree view it was shown. Then I found out that it is missing only for February-born people and that the February has 4-letters shortcut Febr in Slovak (now it is only Feb from the latest update). Afterwards I found out also September has 4-letters shortcut for Slovak, but there was no problem with it (and these 4-letters for Slovak September remain also in the latest WEB update, no problem yet). I cannot provide a screenshot, because I wanted to make it if you want it, but now, when you want it, I am not able to make it (what a sentence :-))) - it works now.
Another new point: "Home - What's new". Bottom-right there is a visitors counter. Click on "Who viewed this?": list of visitors is shown. In the list's last column "Actions" there is a link "Profile". I think this should show profile of the visitor, am I right? But after clicking the "Profile" in the line of some visitor, my profile is shown (caption, sections "Essentials", "Photo", "Actions", maybe "View counter" and "Comments" too), but the "Site membership" section is the visitor's one and also the IE 7.0 window header shows the visitor's name. Why this mix? Whose info should be there?
Does this mean that if I had email addresses in individual contact info in FTB, and exported to a gencom and then imported the gencom to the family site (I have not succeeded in publishing from FTB to the site), that all those email addresses were invited to be site members and I don't even know it?!?!?!?!?
Just to be sure you know I was writing about: there was written [WEB] that means working (editing, deleting) with the tree on the web. When editing in FTB, when I entered an email, then published to the web, FTB asked about sending invitations. I chose No and nothing was sent. When I exported to GEDCOM and imported to the web, no invitation was sent. When I corrected the email on the WEB (because it contained a dummy space at the start) or provided the mail where there was not before, the invitation was sent and info about it was added to the list of news on your family tree Home page (Home - What's new).
So changing the email address on the WEB (not just importing to the web) caused sending an invitation and I was informed about this sending on the family tree Home page. That was the thing I reported.
I would suggest to have 2 checkboxes: one after the email, whether to send invitation to this person or not, and a second one as a default state when entering new person (but this second is maybe too comfortable).
I am having difficulty in understanding the relationship between FTB (and its published version) and the online family site and can find nothing in the FAQs or Message boards to explain how they interact.
I prefer the look and feel of FTB compared to the online version, but if I want to have other family members to edit and add their own bits to the program then, I read, I have to use the online family site.
However editing this is very hard work and there are no help files to assist one.
If you export the online site and import it into FTB onto your computer the downloaded file has never the same information as the original.
When you edit this and then upload it again to the family site it creats a new file and does not update the original (perhaps if it did it would delete all the info. it had missed on the download ( certainly it eliminates all the photos)).
It would be nice to be able to compile and edit the family tree on FTB and then publish it, in exactly the same format, to the family online site. Is this at all possible?
I understand the difficulty you are having in the relation between FTB and the online site. It does get complicated some times!
As you have also figured out once you publish from FTB, you can not work on that tree online any more . You need to export it and import it back and in this process you lose the pictures.
There is actually a way to continue working on FTB and to build the tree with multiple users. You can do this through exporting a package. You can find this feature under File>Manage projects where you will see a list of your trees. Choose your tree and then chose export package.
Once you do this then you can email this package to relatives who you think can help you edit your tree. Make sure you do this one by one so that you do not have many versions of the tree with different information.
When your relatives are done editing (they need FTB also to edit) they can send you the project through export package.
And every once in a while you can publish this tree with the new information. So that other relatives can contact you for new information that they want to add and that you have a back-up of your tree!
The reason why I got interested in myHeritage was its claim that:
"MyHeritage.com automatically learns from every new face it is taught, so after a few examples it will recognize all your family and friends. It can be set to auto-tag faces recognized in high probability"
(taken from http://www.myheritage.com/facial-recognition-benefits)
I tried out the website, installed and tried the Family Tree Builder and searched the forum. But I could not find a way to make the software/website recongize the people in the pictures. The Family Tree Builder can find faces on a photo, but it does not seem to automatically tag them. Can anybody tell me how i can use the website/software to automatically identify the people in my pictures?
I have the same question. I've been using the web software and if I attach photos to people it identifies the face (ie: a photo of just that person) and links them correctly.
What I want to do is upload photos and tag the people in the photo (or have them recognised) - but certainly I need to be able to tag the person so that it all ties together.
We have lots of family photos across generations so want to be able to tag them correctly.
I guess I thought this would work like facebook...
Please check out our new and improved photos section on your family site!
If you upload pictures, your pictures will be scanned to find all the faces in the picture and you can choose to tag the individual faces in your pictures .
Please let me know if you have any more questions at esther@myheritage.com.
I would like to put hyperlink that link to different section of my page.
For example on the Welcom message, I need to put links to articles. I tried to use various combination: static link (as in publich view), and some sort links with removal of the domain (some CMS require this)
If you have built your tree in the Online Immersive Tree:
Unfortunately, we do not yet have a method to enter complex relationships in an online family tree. We are working on adding this.
For the Family Tree Builder software:
The Attach/Detach feature should be used anytime you want to create a relationship between two people who are already in the family tree.
For example, if cousins who are already in your family tree are married to each other, you can attach them as spouses without listing any of them in the tree twice. So Attach, as opposed to Add, lets you draw a connecting line between two people who are already in the tree, and Detach removes that connection but without deleting any of the individuals.
For each type of relationship there is a way to Attach or Detach.
For husband and wife this feature is located in the "Spouses" menu. For children it is located in the "Children" menu. For parents it is located in the "Parents" menu.
There are multiple ways to reach these menus in order to invoke the Attach or Detach functionality. They are all the same so you can pick the one you find most convenient.
A) On the main menu, under Person -File/Edit/View/PERSON/Family/Charts.... You can reach the Spouses, Children or Parents menus.
B) By clicking on the EDIT button on an individual's genealogy card
C) By clicking on the EDIT button in the "Family" section.
I ve done it with FTB and it' works very well. Every person is connected as I want. But another question occurs: So I'm working with GEDCOM files that I import and/or export into FTB..And what happens with all my photo and pictures, all the tagg disapear and I have to redo all my work again..Have you one solution to keep all the works when changing the main tree online after importing GEDCOM?
I have tried about 50 times over the past 8 months and still have never received the email so I can download my Gedom file. I'd really appreciate a resolution to this so I can complete this project in time for this Christmas.
I was able to download mine by going to the family tree...there was a link to export the whole thing (minus pictures). I didin't have to wait on an email from this site's "tech support". Hope this helps.
Thanks for the help, but that link just takes me to the page that generates the Gedcom and then tells me to wait for an email so I can then download the Gedcom. The problem is - I never receive the email with the link pointing to my Gedcom....
I receive all of the other emails from MyHeritage, just never this one.
