I have noticed that since I became a member of MyHeritage, I have become a member of other members' family Web sites, and a number of them have a Welcome message similar to the one attached (I have blanked out the member's name and other information that can be sensitive).
Notice the bolded sentence "Sheldon, you are more than welcome to participate and contribute too!" I at first thought that this was a way to welcome me to the other member's site, but I have also noticed this more and more on other Web sites I have joined. Frankly, it is a little embarrassing to be singled out like this, and I asked the members to remove that sentence from their Welcome messages. I know that I should be welcome to do research at their sites (and they would be welcome to do research at mine).
Is there something at MyHeritage that is causing the same sentence to appear in the Welcome messages? I am wondering how most of the members whose sites I joined have the identical sentence in their Welcome messages. They seem not to know of the problem. Although they can edit their Welcome messages, is there someting else that is causing this problem?
My, I've made multiple requests to delete a few trees I accidentally made so I could work on things, and have YET to have "support" follow through "within one or two business days" as their request ticket claims.
First post. I'm just starting to use MH, because i'm intrigued by the '23andme' genetics tie-in, which I have just sent for processing.
I have imported a GEDCOM from a site that my mother uses, and in order to undertake a data integrity exercise, i'd like to check all existing family tree member's details, where possible. To get a headstart on this, i'd like to be able to produce a form/ template for each member of the tree, so I can send it to living relatives, to see if they can fill in any missing information.
Is it possible to export records for each member of the tree, which would show which fields or not populated, along with those that are? I use Linux as my operating system, so do not use Family Tree Builder.
i would like to add some people to my family tree ; I know they are part of my family but so far, I am only able to provide their names and basic information collected on the web without the details of the relations.
Is it possibile to add the person alone, in order to add some details, and to link them to my existing family members later ?
I just noticed today that whenever I try to input a January date at my online family tree, the date gets corrupted. I have the exact date -option selected (that is, I give for example a date 2nd January 1878) and the system automatically changes it to free text field as soon as I press the ok button. I try to correct the date back to exact date and it may change, but as soon as I look at another person on my tree the date changes back to free text and doesn’t show correctly anymore. This only happens with January dates. Is there a fix for this?
I'm new to this site and have started creating a family tree. For one of my family members, I entered his birth name but I know that he changed both his first and last name in 1946. Is there a way to enter that into the tree without just adding a note? I want to keep both original and changed name.
You can add extra names to a person on the Family Tree Builder.
Double-click on the person's card in the tree -- or click on the 'Edit' button on the bottom right of the person's card -- and on the window that opens, click on the 'Names' button. (See the screenshot below).
On the "home" page of my account I am asked to ad my parents to my family tree. This will add 8% to the final completion of my family tree. I am asked to add their names and their birthdays. My problem is that they are already added to my family tree, but it seems as the system does not recognize my parents.
I am playing with the idea of creating a second tree on my site, one that is actually the "light" version of the original one. A long time ago my tree become too heavy with information because there are too many people in it (I guess many of you can relate to that, since I have not even the biggest tree with my 2641 people). So a second tree with only the parents, grand parents, etc and without brothers, sisters, etc seemed a good idea too me. But I am not motivated at all to start re-entering all the data, so is there any easy idea to create such a tree? Like copy paste a person from one tree to another, or any other method to facilitate the whole thing?
