I would like to give a personal opinion around the issue with adopted kids in a family tree.
I’m glad that you’re working on a new interface where it will be possible to add people that are not biologically related to the family, but I think that adopted kids should have a more privileged relation than anyone else who is not biologically related to the family. In our modern secular societies adopted kids consider often their adoptive family as their ancestors, as much or even more than their natural family. It might be old-fashioned, or just specific to some religion or culture, to consider primarily blood relations in a family tree.
Yes, I agree. I have several adoptees in my famil, and I can't fathom why that information wouldn't translate from the software to the online tree. Please give us an updated ETA!
I understand that the FTB published trees can not editable on-line, so I want to make our family tree editable with the method described in the help section.
I made a GEDCOM file via the Family Tree Builder's 'export gedcom' function.
I deleted the previous version and all the photos from the on-line website, published by FTB earlier.
I imported the previously created GEDCOM file and uploaded it, received the email that my tree had been built.
Yes... the GEDCOM export issue (when exporting not all, but only a few selected person) is a known bug. And there is no fix so far, but the full tree can be exported. I see the FTB and the site is under heavy developmen, suffering from several annoying sickness.
I also figured out a workaround to the editable family tree problem. It seems to me, that if there were only one tree on-line imported from GEDCOM, it is not editable, but if there were more than one, the second one IS editable. (And you should delete the previous one).I managed to solve this issue this way. (And the photo cross-references were lost during the process as described in the help section - have to upload again).
Thanks, I also figured out the GEDCOM method after many frustrating failures and it appears to be working. The export is a real problem as I can't send the export to various individuals so they can work on it. From the date of many of the posts, it seems like this is a widespread issue with a low fix priority
The Birthday of several members of the family are not showed on the calendar. Why some are on the calendar and other not ? Some family is already complaining about it.
All events that are listed properly in the family tree, should be shown in the calendar. Please make sure that the dates are listed in a recognizable and full format (date and month), in your tree.
Hi, I am a relatively new user of My Heritage but not a new user into software and computers. This software is very nice software and very useful.
BUT: the Norwegian translation contains several expressions which is not good Norwegian language.
Like for example, under Visits: Who viewed this? is translated into "Hvem viste dette?" which means "Who showed this?". It should be translated into "Hvem besøkte sidene?". On the viewer history page the column Views should be "Visninger" and Last view should be "Siste visning".
There are several other examples on inaccurate translation.
There should be four options to the right of the family tree anme, View, edit, delete and download - at least there is on mine. I believe you have to be the site administrator to delete, but not sure.
When I first started my tree, I had seen somewhere to select whether site members could add to/edit tree. While this is helpful, until the site and the family tree builder program are completely in-synch with each other, I would prefer that members of my site DO NOT edit anything on the online tree...since I assume it will be lost when I update the tree. How can I make it so that members of my site can't edit, or that if they do the site notifies me?
If you are a member of a site, then you have editing privileges for that particular site.
If you do not wish your members to edit your tree, then you can publish your tree from Family Tree Builder instead of creating it on your family site. This will prevent anyone (including yourself) from editing your tree online. In order to update your tree, you will then have to re-publish from your family site, and your tree will be replaced with the newly published one.
The family tree on MyHeritage.com does not display suffixes, such as Sr, Jr and II, when they are uploaded from Family Tree Builder. Can I fix this or is it a bug?
