You can work on your backup file from Family Tree Builder by going into the folder called "Backup" under the project folder of the project you are working on, (found in the Projects directory, the location of which is in tools > options > General > Projects directory).
Please let me know what happened excatly in your original tree at esther@myheritage.com.
I am relatively new to this and have found that my invited guests do not have the same access to the family tree that I have...showing everything I've entered into the website. How do invited members get to see exactly what I see when I am in Family Tree Builder?
Members of your familysite, will be able to see and edit your tree according to the privacy options for a family site. Please see the following post from our FAQ regarding privacy options.
If your tree was published from Family Tree Builder instead of having been created on your family site, no one, including yourself, will be able to edit your tree online. In order to update your tree, you will then have to re-publish from your family site, and your tree will be replaced with the newly published one.
There is currenlty no way to connect your family tree to another person's family tree.
There are ways to merge your online tree with another family tree, to do so, please see this post in our FAQ: http://www.myheritage.com/help/2008/10/is-it-possible-to-merge-two-gedcom-files-together/en/
There is currently no way to block one person specifically access to your family site, but you can grant access to your family site to specific people.
Please see this FAQ post regarding privacy of family sites: http://www.myheritage.com/help/2008/10/what-are-the-privacy-options-for-my-family-site/en/
We are currently working on the option to manually add dates to the calendar on the family site.
As of now, all dates in your calendar are taken directly from your family trees on that site.
While you are working on it, could you please make an option for showing birthdays on the calender without the year of birth. Some of my women ralatives didn't like their ages revealed! Also a relative brought up that it may present a personal security risk because of the current risk of identity theft. The tree is deficient without being able to enter birthdates so it would be great to have the option to also hide it on the tree. My relative uses another program to build his tree and has that option.
I try to upload a video (just a test, about 1.5 MB), but i get a message smth like "it was a mitake during the uploading". I try to copy video from my Facebook, but the Redirecting was too long (i was waiting about 10 minutes with no result)
Please advise, is it only my trouble or anybody's else?
I have had similar issues and sent a couple requests to support with no word back. Im an IT professional by trade and find that even encoding videos on different PC's using different video editing packages hasnt helped. I tried all of the formats listed on this forum and so far only one small video posted successfully to the site in Mpeg4 format. The quality was not as good as I would have liked and I would like to post some videos that contain historical documents and photos for some of the branches of our tree.
Formats I have tried, are Mpeg1, Mpeg2, MP4, Quicktime, WMV, MP4 H.264 compliant, and several others. The uploads have been attempted using both simple and multiple file upload with different errors. "Sever side error occured", "Parsing error", and a couple others. The uploads have also been attempted from several different high speed networks to no avail.
If there is a recomended format or resolution to help with getting these uploaded successfully please let me know. The video I posted appeared to be re-encoded so that may be the problem if the video is being converted when uploaded to the site. Im hoping to be able to upload several DVD quality videos.
Most were between 40 - 500mb. I recieved a responce back via email that let me know of the 50mb limit. Unfortunately for me thats not sufficient to allow the viewer to pause a presentation and view the text in historical documents. Its fine for very small clips but many of mine are 10-15min DVD quality segments. I do have family members that had similar issues that told me their clips were less then 10mb each. I have had some errors even on small files <50mb but the frequency is far less and I prefer not to have everything uploaded in that low of a quality. I will experiment with some of the Divix codecs and see if I can find one that will maximize quality vs file size ratio.
I have 2 trees I'm not sure why but most of the names are on each tree. The problem is that not one trees has all the info. One tree has all the info of some of the people and the other has the other half of the info. I've put alot of pictures on and some are on each tree. but not on both. I have emailed My Heritage a long time ago and have not gotten any reply back from them. I tried deleting some from one of the trees trying to make just the one tree but I have several thousand names. I'd be at that for EVER!!!
Both the trees that I want to merge are already in my heritage. I have no idea how it got split up but I want to merge them together. I've already got alot of pictures and documents. I don't want to delete the trees and start over, because then I will lose everything I've already done.
The link you provide is for FTB. The question is about Family Site. Saying it twice does not make it any clearer. Reading the link twice does not answer the question.
As far as I can tell, you cannot merge the two automatically without loosing all of your pictures and documents. You would have to re-enter all of the information from one into the other. You can merge the gedcom files if you have FTB and then re-load then re-do the photos etc.
