I lost many time to find the function to change parents (mother of father) of any children in the tree. The last post (~300 days ago), says that there no function to do this. Is it added now or not?
P.S: I talk about online Tee Builder (not offline)! And i know that this feature haves in offline client (click on someone and edit parents), but i need it in online version, because i do not use offline FTB.
I also had this problem - but in addition, I am afraid to export my tree to the Family Tree Builder and re-import because the last couple of times I exported the tree, all of the pictures and people were not exported - and when I'd re-import the tree, it wouldn't update the existing tree, it would add a new one...with no pictures. Is there no "update changes only" option?
As long as you want to keep editing your tree online, you will have to follow this procedure:
export to Family Tree Builder, import back to the Family Site, and tag the photos again to the new tree.
Your second option is to start building your tree in Family Tree Builder - then you can publish it to the site from time to time, and you will never have to bother with the export \ import again.
Keep in mind that when you publish your tree from Family Tree Builder, your site members will not be able to edit it online, they will only be able to add photos and documents, and to tag photos.
hey guys - any luck yet with changing someone's parents? My father-in-law's brothers and sisters are from two different fathers, but when I initially made the tree, I didn't know that, so I put them all under one father. I'd love to flip half of them over to the other father but don't know how to do so. The last time I used the offline editor, I lost pictures on my tree and it re-uploaded under a different tree...so I don't know if I want to try that again (unless the software's a little more intuitive now)...
We are still working on a version of Family Tree Builder that will include a full synchronization option with the family site. This version should be released in a few months.
In the meantime, please see the following post in our FAQ regarding your question:
Thanks Esther - that might be what I need to do. Now, I see that it says you need to re-tag people when you re-import your GEDCOM. I suppose I don't have too many pictures, but I know others have tons and tons of pics - they'll need to re-associate all of the people with their pictures? Thank god I don't have many pics and people as of yet!
I refuse to believe that with all of the great minds you've got there (no sarcasm - this is a great site!) you guys can't figure out simple stuff like being able to re-asign parents or update live from FTB to the web. You've got a lot of good people working on this software - now time to really kick into high gear and develop, develop, develop!
How long before it is available? I have many relatives who also "edit" their info and do not, evidently, know how to choose the right father. After they have entered a lot of info, they realize they have to enter it again at another spot. This is time consuming and would be a simple edit to allow changing of a parent, child, spouse, etc. If it can be programmed on the FTB offline, it can be programmed on the myHeritage online tree. RRRRRRRRIiiiiiiiiiiGGGGGGGGhhhhhhhhhTTTTTTTT?
Now it's my turn to check in! Somehow, my grandfather ended up with an "unknown" mother while the rest of his brothers and sisters are attached to the correct mother. I'm just trying to add his mother, but it doesn't allow me to choose one that's already in my tree. It makes me create a new one instead.
On the bright side, all of my relatives so far have been more than willing to add their families and even pictures to the tree! Yay!
I'm using the offline client. I have some ancestors who married the same family (two cousins married a father and son). So in two branches of my tree there are some of the same people. I cannot figure out how to add the same person as father to two different people? So right now I am putting the same people in twice. I found a menu item to change a parent, but it only shows 800 people - and the ones I need to work with are something like people number 2000 .

Just browsing and noticed under the family tree tab, where manage trees is, there's some stats, one of which says "unique surnames". What does this mean? Is this the amount of surnames which only appear once in the family tree?
Oh okay, I thought that was what "Families" were - I thought each family was counted by their surname (ie, "family name") but I guess they are just counted by a mother and father and their children? Thanks.
