Apparently, in Finland, the wife does not assume the husband's last name. I've been in contact with someone in Finland and they are sure that the wife of Samuel Herman Johansson Friberg is just Elisabeth Johansdotter Lindqvist, with no Friberg added. She has told me this two separate times. I told her that I would make the change, but The Family page software automatically adds the married name. Is there a way to delete it?? Thanks much.
Now my ex-wife and I where married, she had two children from two other fathers, I added them and connected them to her as the parent, the site showed me as the father automatically. We had 1 child, I added him as well.
Now I am divorced and trying to sort out my Family Tree, but the problem is this. I am still listed as the biological father of her other two children even tho I was never allowed to adopt them.
Now I have tried to remove the connection between the two children and adding their biological father and trying to link them with my ex-wife so that I do not show as the father of the children, but the site will not allow that.
How can I fix this problem ... or should I remove them completely, including from my ex-wife's branch as well?
You don't say if you are working on an online tree on the site "MyHeritage" or on your home computer on "Family Tree Builder"
The options on the "MyHeritage" are a bit limited.
You will have to read:-
I have created an GEDCOM-file and uploaded it to My Heritage and to my tree. But the images I have in my local Genealogy-program (Holger /Swedish) is not transfered. How do I do to get the pictures to each person? Or cant a GEDCOM-file do that?
It is not possible to use GEDCOM to transfer images as it is an all text exchange format.
The images will have to be exported by other means and then placed on the right person. I would say the easiest way is to abandon Holger as it is extremely outdated ad move all your records to Family Tree Builder. Thats what I did and I haven't looked back yet.
I noticed that I was getting multiple Smart Matches from the same site manager. I went to his family page and noticed that there were 29 trees being managed. There should be some kind of software upgrade that would delete the previous tree when an updated one is published. It took me 30 minutes just to do redundant work with smart matches from similar site trees, for just one person. I sent a few polite notes to a few, suggesting that they could delete old trees. It's frustrating.
The default option in Family Tree Builder is that when you publish a new version of the tree, it overwrites the previous version. The only way to publish the same tree twice is if you change the tree's name, or publish a backup version of the tree, because then the system gives it a new ID and publishes it as a different tree- so it would not recognize it as a duplicate.
We do recommend users to take a look at the list of published trees on their site from time to time in Family Tree> Manage Trees, to delete any trees that are no longer needed and take up storage space, and avoid the situation that you reported. However, some users do not notice this- so thank you for notifying that user. If you see this type of thing again, it would be best to let us know so that we could notify the user and help them delete the duplicates.
Once upon a time I evidently uploaded my family tree here. Today, when I created an account, I got a message that my email was already in use. I logged in as "that person" and entered mine and my husband's information. This gave me a message that another tree had a matching person to me. I checked it out and saw the link to my web page. I clicked on it and was given the screen to sign in. I can't remember my password and I clicked on the option to reset and was given the message that an email was sent to me telling me how to reset. I still haven't gotten that email. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to access my old page?
If I am a member of another MyHeritage family's site, can I import their tree as a GEDCOM, edit out what I don't need, and then add it to my tree? I'm looking for a way to build my tree as efficiently as possible. I notice that some families have extremely large trees, and I was just wondering if they built them by combining trees. Thanks.
Keep in mind that you will have to manually delete duplicates, and also define all the links between the two trees. You can then export a gedcom file again from Family Tree Builder (FTB), or publish the tree from the program to the Family Site.
I exported a GEDCOM file from the Family Tree Builder. The program suggested to create a sub-folder and exported all photos into it, as expected.
However, when I uploaded The GEDCOM file to MyHeritage.com, all images were lost. They were not uploaded with the GEDCOM file.
Additionally, instead of replacing the on-line family tree, a duplicate copy was created on import. (Or is this by design?)
I have now two trees:
One with images, a non-editable, Family Tree Builder based version.
Another one, fully editable on-line - but no images...
What to do?
I've found a lot of old info on this, but nothing recent, and nothing that I can understand. So, basically, I have created (or am creating) 2 trees, possibly on 2 different sites. One tree is the Rutherford tree, which I am connected to through my great grandmother on my mother's side. Another is the Howe tree, which I am connected to through my great grandmother on my father's side. I would like to keep them as two separate trees, but have them link to each other, because of myself, my siblings, and my parents. Is there any way to do this, and if so, how?
Recently, I searched my own name in Google Images and I found out that the people I added to my family tree were there. As much as I want to keep the family tree in place, I did not wish for the photos to suddenly show up on Google as it was never there a couple of weeks ago. After finding this out, I had to put my family tree/site on private but as of now, they are still there and I'd like to ask if there's any way I can stop Google from showing images in my family tree?
