I have had exactly the same experience, and also feel frustated that there appears to be no way to do this. I was interested to know what myHeritage's response was. It would seem obvious that the myHeritage site should not allow users to tag photos in one environment and not be able to export/import that information to the other environment.
Please let me know what the reponse was, and if there is a way to do this. Feel free to email directly to joewalker at hotmail dot com. We can't be the only two people in the world who are frustrated by this.
We currently do not have the option to merge two trees online, but our developers are working very hard on a new version of Family Tree Builder, which will offer a full synchronization between the program and the site. It should be released this year, so stay tuned- it's worth waiting for!
I thought this was a standard function so I deleted an husband, exported him with his family,
children and ancestors from my familyprogram. But when I've imported his part all I got was
two different trees.
I downloaded a gedcom into my family tree builder which had hundreds of new names but also hundreds of identical names already in on my existing tree and also some persons who were identical but spelt their surname different 450 years ago. I was hoping that they two trees would merge, highlighting duplicates and / or potential ''this person is already in the tree'' type thing which I could then edit, cutting the numnber of duplicates down but this is not the case. The thought of labouriously deleting hundreds of duplicates is off-putting. Can I delete or export the previously imported Gedcom file ?
I am, by now, used to getting generic answers to questions posed which do not address the actual question I asked.
So, I will try again.
Can I export or delete the Gedcom I downloaded into my tree ?
Your answer refers to the FTB duplicate identifier. This is almost useless. All it does is ''what it says on the tin''. It identifies duplicates !! Then....nothing, you cannot use it to delete/merge anything. You still have to revert to manually removing one of the duplicates. I have hundreds, yes HUNDREDS, of duplicates.
If my only recourse to remove all these duplicates is to re-install the old tree from a back up used prior to the gedcom being downloaded into the tree how do I do that? via FTB? How do I identify which 'old' tree to download and replace my current tree with the duplicates therein.
I'm sorry if you feel my answer was not relevant to you.
If merging created many duplicates, I think the best option for you would be to go back to an older version of the project before merging it with another one. You should have it saved on your computer if you backed up your file before merging the trees, so you can restore it and work on that file without the duplicates. It should be on your computer in My Documents> MyHeritage, in your project's folder in Backup.
Please let me know if you need further assistance with this.
I don't have an update yet about the sync between the program and the site. Its estimated release date is in the end of this year.
If you need to merge two trees now, you can do this in Family Tree Builder. In order to merge trees they will have to be exported to GEDCOM file format. You can read about how to merge two trees on Family Tree Builderhere.
Merging similar trees will not automatically merge people who appear in both trees. This means that you will need to detect duplicates manually. This can be done by sorting alphabetically, and then deleting them. Another option is using the “check for duplicates tool” by going to Tools > Check for duplicates.
If you backed up your file before merging the trees, you can restore it and work on that file without the duplicates.
I may not be understanding this. I am trying to merge my GEDCOM with my wife's GEDCOM to create a joint tree. When done, I seem to get her and me with either her tree or my tree. How do I get both trees? I think I am following directions but I guess not.
I've uploaded a video I've encoded to mp4 and looks nice and clear.
However after publishing it playback on my family site is not as good. The transitions get a lot of blocking in it. A screenshot comparison of the source video and the online video can be viewed here http://i.imgur.com/IfLU1.jpg
Does MyHeritage 'reencode' the video that is uploaded ?
Firstly, I'm paying for extra space so there should at least be an option to not have video file size reduced.
Transcoding video for members utilising a free account I totally accept, but not those paying for their space.
Also, there is a 50MB size limit for videos, both mine were 25MB each or less, if I recall correctly. Why resize these ? Perhaps just do those that exceed the 50MB allowance.
I hope the option is considered to leave content untouched. Transcoding already heavily compressed video is never the ideal solution which is why I always start with the post edit DV output when creating videos for upload.
Apparently, in Finland, the wife does not assume the husband's last name. I've been in contact with someone in Finland and they are sure that the wife of Samuel Herman Johansson Friberg is just Elisabeth Johansdotter Lindqvist, with no Friberg added. She has told me this two separate times. I told her that I would make the change, but The Family page software automatically adds the married name. Is there a way to delete it?? Thanks much.
Now my ex-wife and I where married, she had two children from two other fathers, I added them and connected them to her as the parent, the site showed me as the father automatically. We had 1 child, I added him as well.
Now I am divorced and trying to sort out my Family Tree, but the problem is this. I am still listed as the biological father of her other two children even tho I was never allowed to adopt them.
Now I have tried to remove the connection between the two children and adding their biological father and trying to link them with my ex-wife so that I do not show as the father of the children, but the site will not allow that.
How can I fix this problem ... or should I remove them completely, including from my ex-wife's branch as well?
You don't say if you are working on an online tree on the site "MyHeritage" or on your home computer on "Family Tree Builder"
The options on the "MyHeritage" are a bit limited.
You will have to read:-
I have created an GEDCOM-file and uploaded it to My Heritage and to my tree. But the images I have in my local Genealogy-program (Holger /Swedish) is not transfered. How do I do to get the pictures to each person? Or cant a GEDCOM-file do that?
It is not possible to use GEDCOM to transfer images as it is an all text exchange format.
The images will have to be exported by other means and then placed on the right person. I would say the easiest way is to abandon Holger as it is extremely outdated ad move all your records to Family Tree Builder. Thats what I did and I haven't looked back yet.
