I am a new user, imported a large GEDCOM file. Import was fine, but each time I try to edit or add new partners or children, I get 'Communications error, please retry' and edits will not post. Ideas?
Mine does that sometimes. It happens at various stages of an update with various results. Usually just reopening the tree gets me back to where I was and the edit I madeis there. A couple of times tonight(within a few minutes), I added or updated a person and got that. When I got back, the update wasn't there. Hasn't happened since then though.
Hi Thomas, if you are working in Family Tree Builder you are correct, it does not show both partners at the same time. You have to select which partner to display from the person with two partners. This can not be changed.
However the family tree displayed on the MyHeritage web site will show both partners at the same time once you have published your tree to the MyHeritage web site.
I converted your tree into a Web tree. You can always write us and we will be able to convert the tree format for you.
Please note that if the name of a tree changes in the Family Tree Builder and is then published to the site, it will be published as a new tree and therefore you may be receiving the Smart Matches again.
As your tree is now a Web tree, to change the name of it please enter your site and go to family tree > manage trees > edit tree settings. Here you will be able to change the name, and save the change.
Can move part of my tree to another site and delete the UK members except a few? My long lost cousin has added a lot more people and I want to keep the US members on this site. He needs to create and move the English side over to another one. What's the best way to do this?
I tried generating a Family Book for my entire family but the wives of two of my cousins are left out from my grandfather's descendants and my two cousin's family trees are not included in the book.
I read the note in the Family Book about family groups who are wholly included in another family tree will not be included - I am not sure if I understand this statement correctly. Do you mean that if the wives of my two cousins had created their own family trees, then their family tree will not be included in our genealofy report? I am not sure if it is related because before I turned the SmartLink off, I think I saw that both the wives did create their own family trees.
If your cousins and their wives don't have children (no further descendants of your grandfather) the wives won't be displayed in your grandfather's descendents chart.
They should be displayed in the Book Report though, and you and your site members can create as many book reports as you want.
Thank you so much for your reply. Now I get it. If the wives of the descendants give children, then their names will be included. Their names will not be there if they have not because technically, they are not descendants.
I would like to make a suggestion that an option be given that their names can be included in the list. I have generated a Family Book for our entire extended family and sent it to all my family members. I had not realised names were missing and the response I got was "why wasn't my name in there?", like they are not family, like they don't belong.
Hope you will consider providing the option.
You mentioned a "Book Report ". Are you refering to the Family Book? Or is there another kind of report?
The members on my family site haven't received the weekly newsletters since 2nd September. The box for sending weekly newsletter to members is checked and the option for getting the newsletter is chosen for the members. What is wrong?
I asked this same question on the Russian version of the forum and also in FAQ, but without success. Could you please clarify: where do I enter person's place of residence so that it shows up on the map Places of residence in Family statistics: Places? I have only a couple of people shown on Places of birth, Places of death and Places of residence maps, but the information is listed for many more famliy members than that.
Where the information about places should be listed? In what format: name of the city in the original language? with or without country? Should it be: Moscow, Russia /or/ Moscow, Russian Federation /or/ Москва, Россия /or/ Москва? Does the system recognize Chișinău or Chisinau? Praha or Prague? what about the old names like Basarabia (or Bessarabia)?
I have just added Germany (using Russian version of the website the drop-down menu offered me Германия) and Berlin (as spelled in German: Berlin) to this person's page and ticked "current". It, however, did not show on the map Places of residence. When switching to the English version of the website I noticed that Германия remained spelled in Russian and the flag next to the country name has disappeared. Is it a bug?
Moreover, I am listed as Москва on the bottom of this forum post, where I do not live. My public profile page says Belgium. So does my current contact address. Where do I remove Москва?
Why can't I choose "residence" as a catagory to post a residence in the family tree information? It does not come up as a fact to choose from so I have to use "contact information" or "misc" or "comment" to put an address on the fact sheet. On a PC they have a choice of residence. If my sister enters the information on a PC it comes up "residence" but if I alter it the catagory changes to "contact info". What is up with this and can it be fixed?
For the event remainders that go out daily of upcoming events, how far ahead do they go? For instance should a person be included in the e-mail notiification if their birthday is within 30 days, or is it a smaller number like within 5 - 10 days? Also is there a setting for this?
