I use FTB to publish the family tree in two language English and Russian. It's very important for me to have them both as part of the family speaks only Russian and another part only in English. Most of the names, locations etc. in the FTB appear in both languages. I always make sure that the primary display language in the FTB is marked as "Same as display language".
On the website itself, in the past, the names of the people switched to the appropriate language when the site language was changed (in the upper right corner).
Today it stopped doing so for some reason, and the names both in the tree view and in the people view always remain in English no matter what language I chose.
What did I do wrong to cause this?? Is there a way to revert this?
Thank you for writing and we appreciate your patience regarding this matter.
I understand the problem that you might have had, though I just checked this on your family tree and I changed the language between Russian and English and I could see that it changed to the appropriate language database on the family tree builder.
Could it be that by the time we have contacted you the problem was solved?
big trouble to find my oldest ancesrtor Jan Řapek (first is czech letter R with caron http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ř)
There is a bug with Czech language in almost every search form.
Condition needed to replicate this bug:
Tree with to many peoples with same name, in my case it is name "Jan" in english John.
First letter of surname of this Jan starts with special czech letters ŠČŘŽĎŇŤ
Example:
Whan I try to label my 10xgreatgrandfather named Jan Řapek on photo. It is impossible, because: I start typping Jan, system tell me Too many searched record, so I continue typing "spacebar" and start with letter Ř and system answers after 0,5 second : no records. In the tree is about 80 persons of this name and surname :)
Same problem occurs also in old flash skin of tree, in left corner is search of exact person in tree, when I need to jump to my oldest ancestor Jan Řapek(*1649), I have to find his granson Bartoloměj Řapek, because Bartoloměj is rare name and there is NO "Too many records founded" and wait until all these Bartolomejs are loaded, and find mine. When I don't wait , and I start typing Ř(R wit caron) system answer me : no record.
We have actually investigated this and found out that if you search with a capital letter "ŠČŘŽĎŇŤ" you will be able to find results. However if don't search with a capital letter then you are in trouble and will experience what you have described.
I hope that this is atleast of some use for you - we are still investigating on how we can fix this issue.
In Family Tree Builder engaged couples are shown with an engagement ring but when viewed online they have the same wedding ring as married couples.
Can this be fixed please? It's misleading.
Hi, thanks for getting back to me. I'm assuming this means you're able to see living people in my family tree. If you find Paolo Celestini you'll be able to see the problem. In Family Tree Builder the couple is set as engaged, however when you look at the family tree online in "Classic view" there is a normal wedding ring between the two when selected instead of an engagement ring. You should be able to see the issue by doing this.
I've checked the calssic view of your tree and you are right I found the error.
However I would like to let you know that we are working on a new view that will replace both the modern and the classic view in the future, this error shouldn't happen in that new view.
We do not have the release date of our new view as of yet because we are still improving it up, some members already got to test it out, we collected their feedback and now we are working on implementing their comments.
Hi,
My grandmother's sister had seven children. I only have birthdates for some of them but in the Family Tree Builder I have them in the right order. However, when I view the family tree online they appear in the wrong order. The ones with birthdates appear first and then the ones without come after. If I put in a "date within range" or an estimate it doesn't work either. Either no date comes up or it does come up but still in the wrong order. Can someone look into this? It's really irritating.
Thank you for writing us and we appreciate your patience regarding this matter.
I would be glad if you could give me the name of the person this has happened for so we could investigate further, unfortunately we can't find this error on your family site nor we were able to reproduce this.
OK, if you look in my family tree for William James Govier (1854-1915), one of his children, Henry Govier, is down as having been born "Between 1884 and 1887". The online family tree in both classic and modern mode (which really seem like they're the wrong way round to be honest, but that's another issue) can't make sense of this kind of inexact date. In classic mode no date is shown unless he is selected, in modern mode the right date range does appear. However in both modes it forgets that he should be the 6th child and moves him to the end, making him the last child.
The same issue can be seen in my family tree when only one sibling among many has a known date of birth. Lucia Recinelli should be the second child of seven after her sister Rosaria, and is specified as such in Family Tree Builder, but in the online family tree in both modes she appears as the first. When dates of birth are not known it seems to prioritise male children first as it has placed Alessandro second online when he should be third.
I'm glad to tell you that the first issue that you presented with the children of William James Govier, we fixed. We now consider the earliest date when specifying "Between 1884 and 1887" in the new family tree display (which is not yet available to the public).
Regarding the second issue, if the dates of birth is unknown then the family site would not know how to prioritize. We would recommend you to do as you've done in the first issue to specify a range of dates and organize them by the ranges.
I hope it makes sense, when the new display will come out you will have much less consistency troubles with the family tree.
We all call tham by different names, in different languages, but really we are referring to the same places. That's what geotagging is for. Easy as 1-2-3:
1. Geotag places through Google, Bing or similar using the editor's language;
2. Store LatLong tags together with the names of places in the tree's language; and
3. Show the names of the places at the LatLong in the language of the site's viewer.
Thanks for the quick response. I don't think I have the problem anymore. I deleted the image in the list of unattached images and the problem disappeared.
