Something is awry with MyHeritage's welcoming screen for invited new members that is inducing them to create new sites and trees, rather than join the site I'm inviting them to. I've had this happen 3 times already with people of varying computer skills. They end up creating a new site all by themselves, never seem to find the way to switch back to the site I invited them to, and end up giving up in frustration.
I suspect this has to do with how MyHeritage handles email logins. For instance, I invite John with one of his emails that I know. He receives the email, but when asked for his email address at the website, he enters another one that he uses more often. MyHeritage then fails to recognise that this John is the same John I invited.
This is just a hunch, but one thing I'm pretty sure about is that MyHeritage's interface is far too complex for the average middle-aged user (to whom it should appeal most). Just on the home page, there are 4 sets of menus at the top, and long lists of shortcuts left, right and centre of the page. It's an engineer's pipe dream, and a designer's nightmare. I suggest you streamline that, or at least give the option to admins to choose what to show so as to help MyHeritage penetrate their families.
I have a lot of family that are not too savvy with a computer. I wish I could edit the invitation so I can tell them how to log in without being prompted to create a page!
And yes! The home page is WAY to busy! I'd like to be able to customize my own page with the things I need or want to see.
I have fought with that issue also. The problem is that the invitation message doesn't tell the new members how to get onto your website. It only stores a cookie on their computer that will give them access to your website if and when they logon to it. After accepting your invitation, the new members don't know how to get to the website, i.e., they go in through the main portal of MyHeritage ... which guides them through registration and how to create a first 3-person tree.
I made it meanwhile a policy to always double up the invitation by a personal email message that I send to the new members directly, telling them about the invitation, and guiding them through the necessary steps of how to accept the invitation and than how to get to my website.
Under “Settings/General” go to “Site” tab and there you have the option to “Pick a unique address for your site”. You can send this information to your site members and they can save it in their favourites. It would be nice if this information could be in the invitation message. Then they could save it in their favourites.
I want to change my profile photo, and profile photo of other people in my family tree also but I can't find where I can do that. I have added photos and marked the people in it, but the profile photos remain the same old photos. Can annyone help?
When in tree mode, you'll see on the left-hand side a button "View Profile" next to the person's personal picture. When you click on it, it takes you to the person's profile page.
If you still own that page and if you move with the cursor over the profile picture, you'll see three buttons show up on the right upper corner of the profile picture. If you click on the right-most of those, you will be asked whether you want to delete the profile picture. If you answer with yes, the picture is gone, and then you get the option to add (upload) a new profile picture instead.
However, if the person to whom that record belongs is him(her)self a member of MyHeritage, that profile page belongs now to that person. In that case, you won't be able to delete/replace the profile picture. Only the owner of the profile can do so.
This is a ridiculously obscure way of changing photo that would take pure luck to discover. Please ask the masters of this stuff to add a simple link call "change profile photo" for people like me.
Hello, when importing a gedcomfile to my tree absolutely nothing happens. (It´s been a week since the first import) The gedcom file is generated with a software named Reunion and I run the free version of MyHeritage. Any ideas?
I have the same problem. I can import GEDCOM-file to FTB and when I export it from there and try to upload to MyHeritage.com I will just get the following error message: "Sorry, an error occurred while importing your GEDCOM file. Please try again later." It's a bit boring I don't know what is the reason.
Please see if there are any special characters in the Gedcom file name (including apostrophes). If so, please rename the file, and then try uploading it.
I have a brother-in-law whose birthday didn't show up. Twin cousins, 1 shows upcomming, no mention of the other. How to fix, or what are the differences that make it happen.
If a bithday doesn't show up in tree mode, the reason is probably that you entered two or more different facts under the heading "Birth."
To avoid this problem (which happened to me also), I meanwhile made it a rule to never enter more than one fact under the heading "Birth." That is the fact that contains the date of birth. If I want to offer additional facts, I enter them under the heading "Baptism." That solved the problem for me.
The same is, by the way, true for the date of death. You should never enter more than one fact under the heading "Death." If you wish to offer additional facts related to a person's death, enter them under the heading "Burial."
Nope---guess again. Birthday line has date, nothing more. For the twins, everything is EXACTLY the same, 1 shows up, the other no mention. Members correct me on upcoming birthdays and the dates are in there, but the notices don't show up.
Hi Les,
Thank you for writing to us.
Please reset the events that are being imported to your calendar from your tree.
To do so, please go to Settings > Calendar and uncheck the option to import events to the calendar from the family tree.
Save your settings.
Then recheck the option, and save your settings again.
Best regards,
Esther

One reason that could explain why you are not able to edit your tree right could stem from the difference between the types of trees that you could have online.
There are three different types of trees that you can have on a family site; a Web Tree that was made online, a tree that was imported to your family site using a GEDCOM file, or a tree that was made in Family Tree Builder, and published to your family site.
When you create a family tree in Family Tree Builder and publish it to your family site, you CANNOT edit the tree online. If you built your tree in Family Tree Builder, each time you would like to make changes to your tree online, edit your tree in Family Tree Builder and then re-publish your family tree to your family site. This will update the previously published tree (with the same name) on your site.
Best Regards,
