in my Family Builder when I try to compare a smart match a message box with a white X in a red circle that says "An Invalid Arguement Was encountered." I can only click on OK, or the X to close it. It goes to the Compare view, and in my tree there is not a thing there, yet the explamation shows what I have in my tree, and the other tree, and that it all matches. When I go back to family tree, that person is still there.
Sorry.. what i ment was.. in the NEWS section... you can write stuff... but i want to upload a pdf file....... i cant see anything that resembles upload attachment...
the only thing i can do is.. write stuff....insert a pic...mybe you found someway that i havent discoverd yet? :)
I have uploaded my whole family history --seven chapters, two addenda, two appendices and an introduction, each as an attachment to a separate article. Go to Activities, then Articles. At the top you will see Add an article--click. In 2nd section you will see attachment--that is where you can upload your PDF file exactly as you have it with as many pictures as you want. I use the Article section to describe the attachment. My files are no more than 4 MB each and upload and download quickly. Go to my family website and check it out--all but two chapters are public. Please get in touch with me if you have problems or questions. I'll be glad to help.
Hi again, Ingrid: I must be really thickheaded these days, but I cannot find a place to upload PDF articles on my family trees. The family news box just lets me type in a few sentences of text. I don't see any file upload option there. I thought I remembered something like that popping up somewhere, but now that I have something to upload, I can't find that option. I don't see an "Activities" area anywhere.
Responses from myheritage support lag so long that I often forget what I asked. Thanks in advance.
I've switched from pc to the terrible world of apples and thus I can't use FBT anymore, but I can live with that since I found a new lovely piece of software by synium that I'm using now and I could just import my gedcom file...
I'm wondering tough why there isn't a alternative to update the tree by uploading a gedcom file, shouldn't be that hard for it to check what's changed and then merge the 2 trees.
Our Family Tree Builder software doesn't have a Mac version yet.
We've received many requests for this, so producing a Mac version is definitely in our plans. In the meantime, you can wait until we have a Mac version, or continue to grow your tree online.
A tree can be built online on MyHeritage.com, using a Mac. If you have a tree already and it has been published into your own family site on MyHeritage.com, we can, at your request, flip a switch so you'll be able to continue editing your tree online on your Mac, with a browser.
Please let me know if you'd like that. You can also import an existing tree into MyHeritage.com via import GEDCOM, and then continue editing it online on the Mac. Let me know if you need assistance with this.
I am afraid not. You have not missed anything. MyHeritage is only equipped to upload from FTB, not from any other program. Thus you are stuck.
What you could do though (I know that this works, because someone else whom I know was having the exact same problem) is to install a virtual PC on your Mac. In this way, you can emulate a PC on your Mac. The emulated version will run a bit slower, but that should not bother you too much.
Once you installed a virtual PC inside your Mac, you can then install FTB inside your virtual PC, and you are back in business.
You currently have that person's wife twice on your tree. You will need to delete one of them. It is probably easier to delete the wife of the husband than the daughter of her parents. Once you have deleted the wife, you need to attach the daughter of the parents to her husband.
How you do this depends on whether you use the on-line version of MyHeritage or whether you use FamilyTreeBuilder (FTB).
In the on-line version, you can click on the "plus" sign underneath the daughter's record and select "attach to an existing person."
In the FTB version, you need to "Edit details" of the daughter, then select from the pull down menu "spouse," and then "attach to an existing person."
Click on the word "add" underneath the space for the picture and you will get a menu which includes "connect to existing person" in the third position from the top.
In order to add a second or third wife you need to open your FTB program and click on the
persons name on the list on the left side.
At the persons card you need to click on edit > spouses > add spouse If the person is not in the family tree or attach spouse if the person already exists in the family tree.
In order to add a second or third wife you need to open your FTB program and click on the
persons name on the list on the left side.
At the persons card you need to click on edit > spouses > add spouse If the person is not in the family tree or attach spouse if the person already exists in the family tree.
I have several video using Window media Audio/video codex. Would be great to add then to my family tree. Will you be adding this codex to your current list?
The Codec is wmv, for the windows media player video 9.0 and windows media player audio 9.1. Which of the codec from your list compatibale with the wmv? My windows video file will not upload to the site. Size of file 2.02 MB (2,119,026 bytes). Bit rate: 0:01:17, Audio sample siae 16 Bit, channels 2(stero), audio sample rate 44khz, Video date rate 2kbps, video sample size 24 bit.
if this codec doesnt work, is there another way to resave it as one of the usable codecs?
Also can folks using Web TV log into the Heritage web site?
Thanks, for your time and patience.
Vincent
