Thanks, however I was not talking about statistics but the relationship between two individual people, most often myself and one other.
Because I use Family Tree Builder I can see the relationship (In SmartMatch mode) between the person who is the main person in the Smart Match and myself by right clicking in the section, at the top of the SmartMatches, for my own family tree, then, left click in the drop down box, 'Relation to Athol Geoffrey Stewart'.
But the one that yesterday was still available in the WEB site was helpful because it showed the people in boxes, joined by lines with such information as 'son of'; it made it simpler to visualize difficult relationships like those in my tree.
Why has it gone?? Is it because of 'improvements' to MyHeritage?
Is it because I am approaching the dreaded five thousand people in my tree?
This function will be specially missed by MyHeritage members who do not use FBT.
ancestry.com will allow you to upload your tree for free. You can't do any research, but you can use their relationship tool to figure relationships among people in your tree. It's not an ideal situation, but it's the only thing I've found available for very large trees.
I'll keep that in mind; my wife has a subscription to ancestry so I should be able to do that and use their research as well at no extra cost.
I've been thinking of doing that anyway if ever I get my family tree nearer to being complete; I have the impression ancestry is particularly good for searching out documents. MyHeritage is improving but still little help to those outside the USA; one ought to be able to set a filter at the beginning of a search to include, say, Australia only!

I will give you general information so that you will better understand our editing options.
There are two methods you can edit your family tree:
1) Directly from the online website - All your work is done online in the family site. The information is not automatically transferred to your software (you can transfer it manually). The biggest advantage is that other site members can edit the family tree as well.
2) Using the FamilyTreeBuilder software (that is installed locally on your computer)- All editing and work is done in the software (only by you). You can publish the information to the online website and share it with your site members. The family tree in the site is read-only.
Currently your family tree is of the second type and all editing is done in the software. The site is updated by publishing the information from the software.
Let me know if you want me to convert your family tree to an online editable version.
I tried to save some datas of one of my ancestors, when the program crashed. Now when I try to open the program, an error messege appears with "runtime error". I used an older free version of FTB (I think 5) for Windows. Is there any possibility to get back my datas? I'm very sad, because I had more than 1000 names, but I never had a "security save of the project". Please help me, if there is any possibility.
Sorry to hear about your mishap. Don't you do any backups at all? Didn't you set up your computer to create automatic backups for you? If you did, you might be able to roll your computer back to an earlier time when FTB was still running correctly. Before you do, you should save any important files that you created since the time that you are rolling back to onto a USB stick, because otherwise you are going to lose those.
I dug a little further. At some point in time you must have published your tree to MyHeritage, because it is online. You find it at the address: http://www.myheritage.com/site-family-tree-153007692/hajdu
I cannot see when you published your tree to the web the last time. Thus, this may be an older version of your tree, but at least, this version is available and intact.
There are two ways how you can proceed from here. You can either save your tree back into a GEDCOM file from the MyHeritage site and then import it back into FTB from there, or you can ask the MyHeritage staff to make your published tree interactive, and then you can continue building on that tree directly on the web.
This may be less than perfect, but it is most certainly better than to restart from scratch.
I am new to MyHeritage whereby I can now use smart matches. However, before I do this I have looked for information as to what actually happens when you confirm a match but have not been very successful. I am not that great in genealogy and being quite old the brain cells are now giving me problems LOL. Although I’ve got quite a few matches I am loath to use it until I know exactly what happens to my family tree and to the people tree who have matches with mine? Can someone advise me of all the effects this may have and anything else that may be helpful to a novice. Many thanks
Nothing happens, though theoretically the system will become more "smart" about your actual matches and you should receive less bad ones. For anything to change your actual tree you have to do it manually. So confirm or reject to your heart's content.
Nothing will happen to your or the other person's tree. If they are premium members they will know if you confirm/reject, assuming they don't have smart matches turned off. Yes, if you discovered any relevant information from the smart match you would need to add it manually. You do have the option of transferring basic info(birth/death info) in chunks when you actually go in and "view match", but you still have to tell it to do that, it won't do it by itself. It's up to you whether smart matches are worth bothering with. Some people don't. Understand that many members that you match with won't confirm them one way or the other.
Once smartmatches are confirmed by both sides, does the new data automatically get added to my family tree?
If a match has information regarding the parents of someone in my family, and I don't have any information on the parents, will I have to manually add those links to my tree or are they added automatically?
