I spend a lot of time making additions and alterations to my family tree on my computer software program (Reunion) and don't always immediately refer to my "My Heritage" tree for additions.
I now have a large number of additions and alterations to post but it seems that without creating and uploading a whole new tree and deleting my current one, I can't make the changes. (except by going to each of my 1000 individual people.)
Please notice that for each gedcom you upload to MyHeritage, a new family tree will be created. It will not update the existing family tree.
I strongly recommend that you build your family tree directly from your MyHeritage family site or using Family Tree Builder software.
If you prefer to work with another software and importing your family tree to MyHeritage, you will need to delete the previous family tree or add the changes manually to your current tree in MyHeritage.
Notice that each time you create a new tree, smart matches will be recalculated and all previous work on matches will be gone.
The issue of missinginformation in your reports could be a language issue- if you add information to your tree in 2 languages, you must make sure to add all the info in both languages, otherwise it will not appear in reports. You can check what languages are in your tree if you open your project in Family Tree Builder and go to Tools> Languages. Make sure to set the same display and primary data language, even if you have a secondary data language. If you right-click on that window and go to Manage data languages, you will see how much data is in each language. You can choose to copy all info to one language or add all of it in both languages.
If you need further assistance, please let me know.
What happened to the reports showing birth/deaths? All I see now is relationship, ancestor/descendant, statistics and place reports. I sure hope this hasnt disappeared with all these new "improvements".
Seems like its 1 step forward, 5 steps backwards with this website.
Thanks, however I was not talking about statistics but the relationship between two individual people, most often myself and one other.
Because I use Family Tree Builder I can see the relationship (In SmartMatch mode) between the person who is the main person in the Smart Match and myself by right clicking in the section, at the top of the SmartMatches, for my own family tree, then, left click in the drop down box, 'Relation to Athol Geoffrey Stewart'.
But the one that yesterday was still available in the WEB site was helpful because it showed the people in boxes, joined by lines with such information as 'son of'; it made it simpler to visualize difficult relationships like those in my tree.
Why has it gone?? Is it because of 'improvements' to MyHeritage?
Is it because I am approaching the dreaded five thousand people in my tree?
This function will be specially missed by MyHeritage members who do not use FBT.
ancestry.com will allow you to upload your tree for free. You can't do any research, but you can use their relationship tool to figure relationships among people in your tree. It's not an ideal situation, but it's the only thing I've found available for very large trees.
I'll keep that in mind; my wife has a subscription to ancestry so I should be able to do that and use their research as well at no extra cost.
I've been thinking of doing that anyway if ever I get my family tree nearer to being complete; I have the impression ancestry is particularly good for searching out documents. MyHeritage is improving but still little help to those outside the USA; one ought to be able to set a filter at the beginning of a search to include, say, Australia only!
