Yes, custom fact is the way to go if you are using Family Tree Builder and you want to visibly track a particular fact. They show on the profile online and you if you export a list of people from your Family Tree Builder to Excel, they will appear and then you can manipulate it, by sorting, filtering, etc. I use it to track my direct and indirect maternal and paternal lines at a glance. Family Tree Builder has a great feature that if you hover over a certain name it tells you what relationship it is to the main person in the tree and in the online version, you have to go into the profile to see the relationship. But I started my numering system before i discovered My Heritage and once I went past 4 or 5 generations and because I'm tracking indirect as well as direct and a lot of my people have similar names, I needed a quick system to tell me who was who and this works for me. I really don't understand this, not how to but what you get. For example in our family it is believed my grandfather was the illegitimate son of a Fitzroy (Dukes of Grafton), and my research has shown he waa born in their village. But how would DNA testing help me, would it say your dna is the same as a fitzroy? I don't see how, unless a Fitzroy had also taken it.
In my wifes family her ancestor is James Forbes Gill who supposedly came to Barbados from Scotland around 1870....how would DNA testing help? Would it show that her ancestors were from Scotland? I really cannot grasp what the results would show.
DNA search is undirected search. It will rarely help you confirm a particular match, unless both partners in that match agree to take the test, but it may generate unexpected matches with people you didn´t suspect to be your relatives.
Once you get your certificate back, you need to compare it with certificates of all others in one or several databases. MyHeritage uses its own database, but there also exist websites that work across several databases, such as ySearch (http://www.ysearch.org/). That webpage will allow you to enter your own certificate and compare it against a very large set of other certificates.
Regional matches are easy to do, because the same patterns (haplo-types) are found more frequently in one region of the world than in another, i.e., verifying whether your ancestors are likely from Scotland is fairly straightforward, but finding a match with a particular person you suspect might be related to you is not.
When I first joined MyHeritage, I had the free membership which was limited to 250 people.
Shortly thereafter, I switched to the Premium membership in order to add more than 250 in the family tree, and also to be able to use the Smart Match feature.
However, I am still receiving emails notifying me of Smart Matches, but frequently when I select the link to look at the Smart Matches, I am notified that I do not have Premium membership.
I need to know how to resolve this issue, such that whenever I respond to an email with Smart Matches, the program recognizes that I have a Premium membership.
I have similar problem. I've found out, that it happens in case, the Smart Match is on the page, where I am only regular member, and the page is not Premium. It seems, MyHeritage wants that I should pay for somebody else's page, just to be able to contact the matched person. Really awfull. I hope this is only bug, which will be fixed. I pay for my own Premium page, it is meaningless to pay for all pages where I am member, just to be able to contact their matches...

Subscription plans are defined per family site and not per account. If you have (or belong) to more than one site and want to have Premium or Premium Plus rights for all of your sites, you must acquire a subscription for each site.
The option to contact a person with whom you share a Smart Match is reserved exclusively for Premium or Premium Plus users. If the site where you belong is basic, and you try to contact other users through the Smart Match feature, you will receive a notice from us saying that you have to acquire a subscription in order to contact the user.

What I am responding to are emails I am getting saying that I have a new Smart Match. When I click on the link in the email, and go to myheritage.com, it asks me to sign in, which I do (with the same user name and password that I have used continuously with both the Regular [Free] membership and with the Premium membership.
When I click on the button to View the Smart Match, I get a message that says I have to purchase a Premium membership, and that my membership is limited to 250 members.
I sent an inquiry to Staff/Admin at MyHeritage.com. I hope they come up with a solution. I think it is a software design issue, since the old "free" and the new Premium account have not coalesced as they should have.
As I see, my case is a little bit different, I am talking about contacting people, not confirming matches.
Situation: I have Premium and own MyHeritage premium page "A". I am also regular member on nonPremium page "B". Page "B" has some Smart Match with page "C". And now I cannot write to the owner of the page C, MyHeritage shows me only the page, that I have to buy Premium for page "B", but it is not my web! I even cannot ask for membership on page "C". It is silly.

Problem #4, Ref. Problem #1I am still not able to use Family Tree Builder version 6.0.0.5634 downloaded from myheritage.com web site.The program downloaded and installed without any errors.When I try to use the program, I get a dialog box asking me to register the product before I can use it.I am given two options, one to log-in as new user, and two, log-in as existing user.I have tried both.I always get the same problem, the program returns another dialog box saying the myheritage.com site is busy and it gives me two options, one try again later, and two, try now.Using either causes the program to stop responding.I have to use the Task Manager to clear the program and processes.Every time I boot my system, I go through the same problem before I can use my system for other tasks.It has been about 8-days since I reported this problem.I real would like to get someone from myheritage support team to help resolve this problem in a timely manner.Thanks, Barry Simmons 02/20/2012 1816cst.
I am seeing two different profiles for James B. Anderson on my online Simmons family tree. If I view the connection path from Rachael Anderson Simmons back to her father's profile, his immediate family shows as: father, mother, wife, a son John and only one daug. Rachael Anderson Simmons.
If I view the connection path from Rebecca Anderson Simmons back to her father's profile, his immediate family shows as: father, mother, wife, and multiple other sons and daug's. Rachael Anderson Simmons is not listed.
my brother is a half brother , we have only the same mother. How can I delete just one of two parents from my brother? It seems that I must delete both or none!
I have also discovered that my father has a child before he met my mother, they have never met each other and he was adopted in the 1960, how can I add him as a child to my father without connection to my mother and were do I mark him as adopted?
You'll have remove the connection of of your brother to the parents. Add another hsusband to the mother and connect your brother to the mother. It will ask which man you want to be the father. You can also add the additional son to the father. there is a pulldown menu on whether you want to add him with the current wife, a new wife, or single parent.
Is there anyway to copy my family tree that is held online, eg back it up to disc or get a copy of the file that i can open up on my computer without always having to be online to use it?
When you are viewwing your tree, go to the part at the top where it says "manage trees". You have to actually be viewing your tree to see it. There you can export it to a gedcom, which will put in on your computer. You need some sort of program which will accept it and be able to read it. myheritage has Family Tree Builder which you can download to your computer.
Which email address do visitors and member see for the point of contact, my InBox or my yahoo email address?
I would prefer to have all inquires about genealogy related contacts go to my InBox and not be sent directly to my yahoo email address. Is the email address under site settings used by all or just by MyHeritage team members to contact me? How should I decide the proper setting for my contact setting?
I sent a test email to my Inbox email address at Myheritage and got a reply email from MyHeritage stating there were no attachments to the email I had sent. When I checked my InBox at my family site there were no emails in my InBox. How are general inquires and messages from visiters and other members sent to me?
Can you help me understand the process and settings?
