It is MOST difficult to find a person for me, I put the names, birth, death, marriage, location in the search form and am served HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of names with NO rational order that might allow me to not have to plow through all of them in search of that well defind person.
Searching for me is the example, I've lived in one place for 30 years , in the area for more decades, have had a security clearance for around 60 years so should be easy to find all about me! How do you 'seasoned' members do it??
To be honest I do not use it. Tried it a couple of times without much success. I found a couple of relatives in the English Births, Deaths and Marriages, and some nice detail about someone in the United States. It could be quite helpful for Americans; but what it needs is some parameters I can set, the first one being, DO NOT (unless I specially ask) tell me about people in the USA. Each time I tried to search I got hundreds of American entries and none or almost none for my own country, Australia. If the program is improved so that you can at least select a country it might be useful, otherwise, I just can't spare the time.
This is not a new message thread but have to add my heartfelt agreement.
The flood of American data completely ruins this feature and setting birthplace and death location etc makes no difference.
Sometimes I will do the search, then skip to about page 15 because from that point non-Americans start appearing.
It can help to search only within MyHeritage trees too, but you need a fairly unique name.
I paid so much money for the full data subscription, too, and I've never been able to use it. Not once in the last year has it located information about an individual from my tree other than coming against the 'WorldVitalRecords' subscription payment page.
Geoff, you are 100% correct: the parameter we need is, 'Exclude American Data', then everything else might be worth looking through.
Still hoping MyHeritage are working on this issue, could be a very nice feature when fully functional.
I am the Site Manager for my family tree. If an invited member starts building their own tree (off of what I have already created), are those additions applied to my family tree size limit?
I currently have the settings limited to where I am the only one who can edit and make changes, but would consider allowing members to edit their own material if I can understand how that effects my limits.
The limit is fixed for every website. If you allow the memebers of your website to edit your family tree, the limit (250 persons) will be the same. So if they add persons to the tree you will be nearer to the limit.
Please note, that the members of your website may have their own website without your permission. They can build their own tree there and you may be a member of their website if they invite you and in this case you can see their tree.
I need help I have an account listed under another email addess that has been deactivated. When I try the email with the password I thought it was it does not work. The email is email@example.com is there anyway you can use firstname.lastname@example.org for the new address and send me a way to change my password. In case you need it names on the tree are Dale A Hughes, Shirley Parks and David Sweeney (he is the one who invited me)
Thank you for writing the reason for this might be because you are trying to edit the family tree from our mobile version or the family tree online (in the web browser).
As you created your tree in the Family Tree Builder you will need to make all changes in the tree in the program as well, and not in the online site. If you would like me to convert your tree into a Web tree, that can be edited directly online, please let me know.If you would like to continue working in the Family Tree Builder, please download the program:http://www.myheritage.com/family-tree-builderAnd go to File > Restore project > Restore from online family site to restore your tree into the program.
Please, let me know if you need any more additional help.

Thank you for writing and we appreciate your patience regarding this matter. You can export a GEDCOM from her family tree and import it to your family site, and then you will have full control over it. However, you can also ask your sister to promote you to be the site manager of her family site (if you are a member of it).
I would be glad if you could point me to the right direction regarding this issue:
1. Does your sister have a family site on MyHeritage?
2. Are you a member of that family site?
3. Can she promote you to be the site manager?
4. Or would you like to export a GEDCOM of that family tree and start over? (I would suggest you ask your sister to export a GEDCOM file of the tree and then sending it to you).
Please, let me know so we can identify what is the issue here.

I'm 62 and have great difficulty navigating web sites. I have couple of questions about the myheritige family tree and what is called "gedcom". Is there some way I could talk to someone in person to ask my questions?
Hi Dori, In Ancestry.com in the family tree you are the owner of you can download a Gedcom of your tree by opening the family tree in the Family Trees link on the home page. Next to the tree name you will find where it says "tree pages" and you need to click the "tree settings" link. It should open to the "tree info." tab/link and there you will find under "Manage your tree" and "Export tree link." I have Firefox and Internet Explorer browsers set to download to my desktop in Windows 7 and IE might be easiest here if your downloads aren't automatic to a file such as the desktop.
In Windows 7 and Internet Explore the trees export box should give you a choice of naming and saving your file in a link or button titled something like "Save as." In the box that opens give your tree the same name as it is on Ancestry if it doesn't list it automatically in the boxes or something easy to remember and direct it to your desktop. In Windows 7 you will see your computer files including the desktop on the left the page and click it then click the Save button.
Luckily I still have XP on another computer! In XP with Internet Explorer you should see Export or Download your tree as well. Click the download button and a File download box appears, Click "Save." The "Save as" box opens and on the left side you will see the desktop listed, click it, and name your tree if it doesn't already appear in the screen file name then click the Save button in that box.
You should be able to open this file using another program such as Family Tree Builder, etc. or upload it directly to MyHeritage though their website is geared to Family Tree Builder and you may not have all the features in using your tree with another program. I don't currently use Family Tree Builder so I can't help with that program. Be sure to save your downloads to use as backups should problems arise in their uploads to MyHeritage or in Ancestry.com!! I hope this helps? I'd be glad to help to further if I can! Best wishes, Dawn
Daniel, I underdtand about not talking to someone personlally, but your written ans. may help me. I have most of my tree information in ancestry.com. I want to get it all in My Heritage. I understand I must use Gedcom, but do not know where to begin. I need my information in My Heritage to work on my family tree. Thanks. Aubrey Ted Parrish
Ted, I will try with partial answer. I dont use that online service you do, so I will just give you a general answer. All 'family tree' programs I tried, support exporting and importing into/from GEDCOM format.
So, techically what you should do is, go through menus of your service (probably under 'File') and look for 'Export'.
If there is 'export' click on it. Then you should have different options how (into which format) you can export to. You need to choose GETCOM. Then you choose where on you computer you save it and under what name. Leave all setings as default usually that's all you need. Just click on OK.
After this is done you start this free program. My tree builder or whatever it's name is (I'm new, first time here) and go to 'File' and click on Import and browse to that location on your computer where you saved exported file.
If you can't find export button in your online service, you may need to call them and ask them how to get to it. Hope this helps...
