Glad to hear that you saved $$ by reading these, I wish I had. I was also a member for the free service for quite a while too, and when I got the offer, I thought that would be an amazing deal. Yeah! It sure was. Then to find out they are home based in Israel.......I have no idea how to make sure this doesnt charge automatic renewal. I did email them, and of course no answer. Im wondering how many complaints have gone to the Better Business Bureau?? I guess I will find out. I find this DEAL useless.... grrrr PI'd
yes, I could kick myself for not just sending the money to Anscestry.....try to save a dime! I should have known better. At least Anscestry helps you find things, and you can access records. This site is rediculous.....Im so PI'd
The same thing has happened to me, I have just upgraded from free version to Premium only to find they want more money to access records. Like you I was sucked in by the discounts, now I have got this for 2 years. It is a pretty good scam when you think about it, charging for accessing public records
I did for 1 year, but still I am really mad. I tried to reach them, because it also does an automatic renew each year. Apparently you have to email them to say you do not want it to renew, there is no option to stop it yourself. And, I talked to a guy yesterday that said the company main office is in Isreal. <<sigh>> Im such a sucker, and I thought I checked it over before I jumped in. Apparently I didnt see the freaking shark right below the surface!
You get what you pay for! This site is good if you want free family tree software and basic service. Every other geneology site requires you PAY for copies of certificates which My Heritage does not even give you the choice of doing. Ancestry.com might be expensive but they are far better.
Yes, it is very popular fee model in iT world today - basic version with huge limitation for free, less limited version for $$, but the most interesting item for any service provider today is extra paying for the data. Frankly,in my opinion, My Herritage is not better or worse in comparsion with lot of other competitors. We can accept it or we can continue with ignoring of these data offers.
yes you are ( whatever you decscribed yourself as) - and yes your are correvt- sucked in.
Yes you are correct - should have read the old posts on the forum FIST.
Yes you have done your dollars-
BUT- unlike some who take around a year to come to the smae conclusion- you have identified the issues quickly.
So- why not revist Ancestry- give us a users view to Ancestry, give us a comparison,
In short tell me why I should not disappear from MH and join Ancestry.
You are not alone- trust me ther are some verry pissed off users of MH, and a equal number of dropouts- that is those that put their stuff on the system- and vanish, so if its Wrong there is NO WAY to fix it. None whatsoever.
Be careful with MH- and be quick as this post will be deleted. (by the "watchers of comments negative".
Hi, I guess I have the best of both worlds; I use MyHeritage and my wife has a subscription to ancestry.com
Which she is very happy with.
I find MH great for finding family members and expanding my tree with SmartMatching, though it takes a huge amount of time. I have tried (without taking up the expensive subscription) to find family details on the data-finding system, whatever it is called, and found it totally useless. I live in Australia, most of my family history is in England, Ireland, Australia, Germany and Switzerland. Even though I tried to tell the system to exclude United States data, I got heaps of that and very little else. Probably very good for US people and I am hopeful that one day the system will be useful for those in The Rest of the World.
I have not yet used my option to look in ancestry.com but expect soon I will, for cases that are puzzling in my MyHeritage tree; discrepancies like parents being too young to give birth...
I find MH excellent value for my Premium Plus subscription but would not pay for the data finding system.
I got a personal email which they asked me to send them links of the people I am having trouble with, ok so I sent them a random selection of 4 people.
In the mean time I have had many emails form other people with the same problem?
I have just worked out myself that it is the UK Records I'm having the trouble with the names will come up in the research pages but as soon as you click on the person of interest, for the record you get the OOPPSSSSSIIIIEEEE!!! message.
Now I'm no rocket scientist just a humble Toolmaker, their search engines are pulling the info as far as names but their servers will not pull up the data record. Hang on am I doing half there job for them??????????????
Funny after posting my last message I got a response within 40 minutes via email "RECORD BREAKER" message reads as follows, which is below but it took an additional post from me for the response?????
Thank you for writing back.
I'm quoting myself in the forums:
"Our UK database is currently down, since we are partnered with the site FindMyPast.com and for some reason the connection between us was interrupted - we are doing our best to resolve this issue, we are so sorry for the bad experience. "
I will notify you when the problem is resolved.
