I'll take a stab at answering Ruan's question. On my own tree for families where there are no more known children beyond whom I've already entered, you can click on the X in the upper right hand corner. The "Add Child" box will go away permanently, and a new fact that states how many children the couple had will appear in their list of facts instead.
This doesn't always work though. I'll use myself as an example. I'm 41 years old, but I never married nor had any children. Since I don't expect to ever have children, I tried closing up the "Add Child" box for good. However, after I closed it, another immediately popped up in it's place. I also had this problem with deceased couples who never had any children! Apparently, the system assumes that if you never had children, it will still forever remain a possibility.
Actually there is no way to add a child with a mother only. For a child to exist s/he needs to belong to a set of parents at least.
But, there is a way to get around it somehow.
What you do isif you start the tree with yourself then leave the husband blank so that he will be unkown then add a child.
Then for the child you have two choices you can either leave him/her as the child of two sets of parents or as one.
To do that go to the child right clik on edit>parents>attach parents and choose the new set of parents so that s/he will be next to the siblings. If you stop at this point then the child will be shown under two relationships.
Then you can continue and click on edit again on the child choose detach parents and choose the first set of parents. so that the child will be removed from the mother-unknown relatinship. Then you can also delete the unknown person. This will leave the child as a child of the new relationship (with a dashed line to seperate from the other kids) and the mother with one partner.
Okay, here go AGAIN! I have redone my family tree in Family Tree Maker. I exported it to a GEDOM file because of the bug that makes the upload from the program read-only. Well now I STILL am getting a read-only tree! I have retried several times, exporting and changing the name of the GEDCOM file, even changing the number of people, and STILL it's read-only. I,m about to take my business elsewhere. I am a paid supporter.
OKAY! Finally got the first tree deleted. I EXPORTED the tree from Family Tree Builder. Then IMPORTED the GEDCOM file. I go to "Manage Trees". The source says "GEDCOM", but its STILL not writeable!!!!! This is getting very agravating to say the least. If it was just me editing the tree I would have no problem, but I have family helping me.
I have other problem. I created my TREE by programm I download from your site. Now me only are eligeble to make any changes through this programm and upload to site then. But there are more than 500 people in it. And I dedicated two person who will help me. So, how other could keep our GED file up to date?
I did export my tree from Family Tree Maker. Then Imported it to my site. And it still was not writeable. I got tired of waiting for an answer here and just finally just used FTM to at least get a tree here on my site. I am currently trying to delete this tree, but I keep getting "server time out". So until I can get this tree deleted, I can't check how the imported tree will be.
I have a tree with 170 members. I ask for event and don't see any in calendar. What I have to do (or, maybe, change any preferences) to see every month all events (birthday, death, day of merrige and so on) for all members of my tree.
to check your calender events go to Administration>Calender to see if all the events that you want to see are checked. If they are checked and still you don't see them please write back in detail which events you checked and still don't get reminders for. I'll see if we can come oevr the problem.
not to duplicate the same event - happened after I updated birthday dates and published from a different computer for "Slovacek". I check the "calendar" section and it just has the one box to import all events and it does. What else do I need to look at?
I can't believe no one is complaining about the new photo album, maybe I'm missing something here. But there is no more view full size image? The one thats there is very small, not even worth it. And you can't download a single photo anymore? I had to download the whole album! I know the other album left a lot to be desired, but this one almost as bad. And come on, get the site colors fixed, I'm so tired of pink and blue!!
You can still perform all of the actions you have brought up!
Simply go to the Find tab in Albums, choose the album from which you want to download the photo and then cl'ck the photo. Here you will have the option to download the photo and view it in full size.
Hello, I have been trying to tab the people in my pictures but when I start to label the third person in a picture, internet explorer crashes. Any kind of help on resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.
I have this problem too. I tried using MSN Explorer instead, and it's a little better, but sometimes it crashes too. Sometimes I would just tag two people, save my changes, and then go into Edit again. Another thing that I found that helps is ... when you're typing the person's name, and a list of possibilities pops up, don't immediately click on the correct one as soon as you see it. Wait for the little clockwise-rotating arrow to finish what it's doing, and then carefully, slowly, and deliberately click on the center of the person's name to select it.
I have a situation where two sisters from one family married two brothers from another. I have already entered one line of the family but I can't figure out how to link the two families. I can't figure out how to add a wife that is already in the system as someone's sister? sorry if this doesn't make sense, I'm very new!! I know that I was able to do this on another program I used awhile back!
I have the same problem, and it seems to be impossible on the website (it may be possible through the Family Tree Builder software, though, I'm not sure).
Now if we could customize the page colors, or at least give us some kind of choice?
