Everything is under control and very simple to fix. It can be done in 2 minutes, but we want to trace how it happened. So until Sunday morning when our developers inspect it (Sunday is not a weekend for us), please don't delete anything and don't touch anything on your site, and don't re-publish your family tree and do anything else of that nature. We will fix the issue within the next 12-15 hours, and update you, but if you change anything it will remove the evidence and make it more difficult for us to fix.
Hi James, not a problem but something along the lines of this situation, I have main site, I set up site for my sister and nephews to put info in, but when I created site I changed the original person (my details) to my sisters on the set up page and it then assosiated my sister as me when i started compiling the tree,
I sorted in the end all the problems, but the program should not have allowed me to change my original details while creating the new site.
No thats not it it wasnt allowing me to see my tree before i ended up making a new site i did that by mistake searching for a way to add people to my tree. There is some reason that my computer is not letting the tree load correctly, im still getting "refresh browser and try again"
If when you clik on Family Tree, you get the message "Loading Family Tree..." and nothing happens, and you do NOT see the tree icon with the revolving green arrow, it means that you do not have Adobe Flash Player installed on your computer.
Most genealogy softwares support the standard GEDCOM format.
All that you need is to use your genealogy software to export your data into a GEDCOM file.
The next step would be to import this file into MyHeritage.
There are 2 ways of doing that:
If you use the Family Tree Builder (FTB) software, launch FTB, and choose File > Import Gedcom
You can also import a Gedcom file directly into the website by going to your family site, and choosing Family tree > Import GEDCOM from the top navigation panel.
Note that even if someone doesn't have a family site, then it is very easy to have one. Simply go to the myheritage home page at http://www.myheritage.com and click on the "Got a GEDCOM?" link inside the box on the pag. Follow the easy instructions on the page
My wife has been working for many months on another genealogy website and let me know that if I "lost" the information in her site trying to export it into this site... well,,, I Won't tell you what she said LOL... but thanks for the easy instructions.
I created me tree originally in thick client version of Family Tree Builder. When I published it to the web, I would like to be able to edit it there also, or have others collaborate on info as I dont have it all. Is there a way I can edit information on a person's card if the original tree was made in the FTB? Thanks!
You should export GEDCOM file from the Family Tree Builder and import it on the website, then you'll be able to edit it on the website. That was the only way, I don't think anything have changed since then.
I tried exporting the GEDCOM from FTB and importing to the site, but I still see no way to edit. Should I delete what's on the site first? - No, I think you shouldn't delete everything on the site. It should work without that. I hope some of the Support experts will help you.
If you get this to work, other members should be able to edit / add family members, that's how it works in my family tree.
Katya ... thanks for your response. It looks like perhaps we both are correct!
I discovered that when I import the GEDCOM, I actually get an extra (editable) family tree on my site, just as promised. (I can see a list of trees if I click on "Manage Trees.) However, I must choose to view that particular tree. If I am still viewing the original one, it remains non-editable.
I went back and deleted the original, and tested it using another member's account, and it appears she can edit also !! This is great.
So you are correct - I do not have to delete my tree first. However, by deleting my original tree after I import the GEDCOM, I am assured that all users see and use (and edit) the same version of the tree.
I'm doind a project and I need a copy of my family tree on 1 piece of paper. When I try to print my family tree the printer says it needs to print 12 sheets of paper. Is there anything I can do to tell it to print the whole project on 1 piece of paper?
