Has anyone else experienced problems with this? Since upgrading to Premium, The detail panel which appears at the left hand side is empty except for the photo. There are no options to edit, add photo, nothing! Can anyone help?
I agree with Baba but hoiday season or not-- its never easy to get FAST answer from MH.
I dont think they can hide behind the festive season for an excuse-- someone must be manning the oars!!
I doubt you will get a proper reply before the new year-- and then my guess is that a post will appear on this forum to the efect that" I have sent you a private email to sort out your issue" because private matters cannot be discusse on the open forum.
I cannot navigate in this Modern view. I pay for the PREMIUM SITE & have just RENEWED for another year. I am a long time customer & I only use my home computer. I AM NOT Computer LITERATE. It is VERY HARD FOR ME TO UNDERSTAND THIS NEW VIEW. If we pay, we should have some control over how we use the MY HERITAGE SITE.
I would really appreciate your assistance in the return of the CLASSIC VIEW. Thank you, Roselin Shankland
I found out the hard way today that the Classic View is gone while trying to explain navigating the tree to my brother, who thought I was insane, because none of the instructions I gave him worked. We finally figured out that I was instructing him from the Classic View and he only had the new format. Then when I closed my site and reopened it from my on-line browser, I saw what he meant. My Classic View was gone as well. I tried practicing the new format and it would not be satisfactory for someone who is not savvy in this stuff. I am sure I'll get better at it, but the new format has none of the beauty of the Classic View nor the ease of quick and superficial navigation, which is what most of my members want or care to learn.
Isn't it possible to preserve at least a basic form of the Classic View, e.g. without the side panel?
It is interesting that as of a few minutes ago I could still access the Classic View from FTB, which is, of course of no use to my members. Maybe I should not have mentioned that.
I too fine it hard to get around this new version. I am the site manager and only upload to the site. Many members have responded to me and I see where they are coming from. The response I get from them is scrolling from one person to the next. I hope your new version will be much better.
I can understand that you might have doubts when you find the online tree you're familiar with has changed.
So, what's so great about the new tree?
The look of the tree hasn't changed much so you don't need to relearn how to use the tree. Viewing, navigating and searching the tree is basically the same and editing the tree is very much the same as well.
There are some nice additions though, like the Radar, which allow you to see a "map" of the tree and instantly jump to any place. In the previous version if you wanted to travel through the tree, you had to click and drag endlessly to get anywhere.
The new tree editor only has one style (or view) right now - the Classic view has been discontinued - but that will change as we're adding some new styles so you will still be able to see the tree in the view you like best.
We streamlined the editing options. For example, in the previous version of the family tree editor you also had a lot of other options that didn't really belong in the ADD phase. All those options have appropriate places now that make much more sense. There are more flexible options for adding dates in the new tree editor. You can add dates like "before", "after", "from...to...", etc. Adding and editing marriages and partnerships is quicker now too as the fields are located in the instant, basic editing fields.
Birthday and anniversary notifications are bigger and brighter, add me cards show you where you need to add more ancestors, you can invite people directly from the tree by adding email addresses and more.
An important change in the new online family tree is that it is now HTML5 based. This means you can access and edit the tree from any mobile device or tablet, which was not possible before. The switch to HTML5 also made it possible for us to offer editing in the MyHeritage app, which is great for people who edit their trees online - you can now truely edit your tree anywhere, anytime.
Family Tree Builder users will also benefit from editing in the new tree as version 7.0 of the program will offer the ability to make edits online and integrate them into your tree in the program.
We're really starting to bring together all the different aspects of MyHeritage to give you a more seamless experience.
There are a lot of good things about the new online family tree. I hope you will give the new online family tree a try and come to appreciate the improvements we've made.
Trusting this has proven useful information to you and wishing you a Merry Christmas.
I have run the family tree builder for years without issue and even for months on a Windows 8.1 OS. Recently though it just crashes the laptop and gives me the blue screen of death stating a non paged area fault. I have done a complete rebuild of the laptop and installed all the latest patches and downloaded the latest FTB and it still does it. I have tested all my software and it only crashes on FTB. I have tried running it in Widows 7 mode and the same, yet it works perfectly on my old Win 7 laptop. I don't want to loose this software it is brilliant but I can't have this problem. Any ideas on how to fix this?
Im not sure if this is helpful but it may be one of these two cases: Database corruption or FTB corruption.
If you have not made any program updates and it worked last time it may be Database corruption. If you can start FTB without opening your project it may be that your project database has become corrupted. Then you might be able to download your project from your web tree.
If you have an error on your hard disc where FTB is located and you reinstall FTB, FTB could be reinstalled at the same place as it was befor and the program will still be corrupted. In this case I dont know if it is possible but maybe if you reinstall the program without removing the old installation and install it at a new location (different path) it may work. I have done this with other programs but then I was in controll of that program.
I don't think it is a database corruption as the same one works fine on my old win 7 laptop, I have done a full laptop rebuild so everything is fresh and imported the known working copy of the database and no change. It was working fine on win 8 at that point but there was a big update not so long after I think must have killed this application. As I said there is no problems under win 7 and running it as win 7 on win 8 did not help. Now have to dump this app in favour for one that is win 8 compatable.
As I am about to invest in a new system running W 8 I am more than interested to know if your problem is simply your problem or is it more wide spread and is it a "known issue" or is it a new one for the dev team to ponder.
No doubt you will get a "private email" telling you waht going on-- but the rest of the user community may be left in the dark.
So if MY does privatley email you-- would you be so kind as to present the findings for the greater good of the greater user base.
And good luck and should YOU discover the probel and find a fix-- I would love to hear about it.
This is a long standing problem of MyHeritage, what ever you do to add two or more trees together you have to manually merge the data of the multiple duplicates that are formed and then delete each one of the otherwise superfulious duplicates, they have yet to produce an automated procedure.
In their defence they do provide a procedure to identify duplicates but beyond that nothing
Do other user feel that there should be an option to list ALL boards on this forum in the order of the latest update, rather than in the order of when the topic was first created.
As at the moment, if there is a interesting topic on say page 4 that you reply to, nobody will find your comment unless they wade through the other 3 pages, and as google says "you must be on page 1" you are blowing in the wind if you want a reply
