If you are a member of a site, then you do automatically have editing privileges for that particular site.
If you do not wish your members to edit your tree, then you can publish your tree from Family Tree Builder instead of creating it on your family site. This will prevent anyone (including yourself) from editing your tree online. In order to update your tree, you will then have to re-publish from your family site, and your tree will be replaced with the newly published one.
I was using the downloaded version of My Heritage very nice to work with only I lost it when I got a new computer. I had over 1,000 family members on it and had just increased my membership. Is there a way to get it back? Do I download My Heritage and start over? I do not like the modern or classic versions at all they are not user friendly. Please respond back ASAP. I have not heard from the support personnel even though I have sent in fou request for help. Will there be another charge if I start over?
The best way to restore your family tree is to locate the original project file on your computer and load it. It will have a .ZED extension.
If you are sure that you no longer have it, nor have any copies of it, there is still hope for you… If you have published your family tree online, then there will be a backup on your family tree on your family site on MyHeritage. In that case, please follow these steps to recover the file:
Open a browser and log into your Family Site on MyHeritage.com, then go to the Family Tree tab > Summary page in your Family Site. Click the ‘Download’ link next to your family tree and this will save your family tree to your computer as a file with a .ZED extension. Once you have the file downloaded, open Family Tree Builder and click File > Open Project. Click ‘Browse’ and locate the .ZED file. This should restore your entire project, except for the photos.
Note: it’s better to be prepared next time for catastrophe. I advise that you frequently back up your family tree to removable media. The best way to back up your family tree is to use Family Tree Builder’s backup facility on File>Back up Project. It will save a single file, perfect for backup, that contains your family tree and all its photos and documents. Such a backup can later be restored using File>Restore Project.
To delete a photo in an album go into Photos > Find.
Then click on the album that you want to edit (delete a photo from). Then you will see a horizontal menu of options for the album, click on edit details, then on the ‘content’ tab.
There you will see a list of all the pictures in the album and you can press ‘remove’ to delete one of them.
One of the members can't view the family tree on her computer. Her screen says "Loading", but it also says "Done" in the lower left corner. It looks like the load function just gets stuck and never loads.
She has unblocked her pop-up blocker for this site, and she's tried to download Active X's newest version but for some reason it isn't working for her.
I've tried all of that - checked the installation out with the test from adobe. Any additional advice - still not seeing the family tree - loading... (and no "glow" around the tree).
Is there any other specifics I need to set on Firefox/IE - I've tried both without success
i just got married and i have my family tree and my father in law has one for my husband. i would like to fuse both of the trees. is there a way to do that or do i have to do it one by one? his tree is huge and mine is big.
There isn’t really a great way to merge two different trees in an online family site.
If you're really interested in trying, I can tell you that it will be a little complicated.
Firstly, you will have to export both your family trees to Family Tree Builder. Then you can use the export branch feature and export a specific branch from one family tree and then import in to another tree in the Family Tree Builder software.
To do this, go to Family Tree Builder and import the first GEDCOM file (or open your existing family tree project if this is your basis for the merge). Then import the second GEDCOM file, using the ‘File>Import Gedcom’ option in Family Tree Builder. A wizard will open, asking you to select the GEDCOM you wish to import. In the ‘Configuration’ page in this wizard, there is an ‘Output’ section, which gives you an option to merge the new GEDCOM file into the previous project. Choose the Merge option and complete the wizard. Please note, that if there are duplicate people in the two GEDCOM files, they will remain duplicates and will not be consolidated, you will need to delete the duplicates manually. We intend to provide more advanced features for merging GEDCOM files and consolidating duplicates, in the future.
Could you kindly provide an option for inserting photos and or text photos in the news article which may also have option to click & enlarge view. This will enable all web masters to attach documents and photos of some special events.
We currently do not have this option in the articles, although thank you for the suggestion. I will be sure to forward it to the appropriate department for consideration.
Please let me know if you have any other ideas as we do value such input from our users.
If you'd like to remove your collage or Morph, you'll have to delete the HTML code.
The HTML code is usually displayed in the "About Me" or "My Interests" section of your profile.
What you need to do is go to "Edit Profile" and find one of the above categories. You'll recognize the HTML code for the collage/Morph because it has MyHeritage written in it somewhere.
What is important, is to delete ALL the code, but not to delete code from other things you've added to your profile.
What I suggest you do is to cut/paste the code to a word doc or something and then go back and view your profile to make sure you got the right code. That way you haven't deleted anything important by accident. And you can save your collage/Morph if you want to post it at a different time.
I have a few people who have sent me new updated photos and I cannot change to thier personal photo. When I set the new photo as the personal one on the tree it does not show any photo at all. (Not even the initial icon.) What do I do? The photo shows in the the individual's photos just not on tree.
Suddenly the book report shows all names as 'Unknown' (Mr.Unknown, Mrs.Unknown etc). In the program self all names are displayed correct, also in the other report / diagrams the names are corrert.
Could you please tell me with which language you created your tree? It is possible the problem is related to languages in Family Tree Builder.
In Family Tree Builder, it is possible to choose a DISPLAY language and a DATA ENTRY language.
DISPLAY language changes FTB’s interface only and will not affect any information that you have manually entered in the tree. In other words, DISPLAY language corresponds to all the buttons and command names in the program.
DATA ENTRY language corresponds to the information you enter into the tree yourself. Names, places, notes, etc. are considered DATA.
Problems may arise when DATA is entered in one language when the DISPLAY language is different. For example, let’s say I started a tree and chose my DATA language to be Hebrew. If I set the DISPLAY language to English and start entering information in Hebrew, at this point I will begin to encounter problems.
The reason for the problem is that when the DISPLAY language is set to English, FTB is looking for English characters. If Hebrew characters were entered, FTB won’t know how to read them because it is trying to read according to the encoding characteristics for the English language.
Due to the fact that each language has its own encoding characteristics, this problem can occur between any language pair. Even if only ONE character was entered, the problem can occur.
When this problem occurs, Family Tree Builder shows names as UNKNOWN. It can see there are people entered in the tree, but doesn’t know how to read the names and therefore displays the UNKNOWN title.
In order to fix this, please go back into the Family Tree Builder and make sure that you have the appropriate languages selected and translated.
1)Please go to the Tools menu > Languages…
Note that there are three options here, the Display language, Primary Language and Secondary Language. You will need to have the appropriate languages selected. The appropriate languages would be ones you and your family would use with the family site. For example, my family would have English and Italian selected. This will allow my Mother to view the family tree in Italian and yet, still allow me to view the tree in English.
2)Next, please again go to Tools menu -> Translation Wizard to translate the names to the Secondary Language. Why must you do this? The original entry of data for the Primary Language must be “translated” or converted into the Secondary Language. The Translation Wizard is a fast and effective way to do so. After this, republish and the tree should show fine.
Please let me know if you continue to have problems viewing your family tree.
