Unfortunately, we do not yet have a method to enter complex relationships in an online family tree. We are working on adding this.
For the Family Tree Builder software:
The Attach/Detach feature should be used anytime you want to create a relationship between two people who are already in the family tree. For example, if cousins who are already in your family tree are married to each other, you can attach them as spouses without listing any of them in the tree twice.
So Attach, as opposed to Add, lets you draw a connecting line between two people who are already in the tree, and Detach removes that connection but without deleting any of the individuals. For each type of relationship there is a way to Attach or Detach. For husband and wife this feature is located in the "Spouses" menu. For children it is located in the "Children" menu. For parents it is located in the "Parents" menu.
There are multiple ways to reach these menus in order to invoke the Attach or Detach functionality. They are all the same so you can pick the one you find most convenient.
A) On the main menu, under Person -
File/Edit/View/PERSON/Family/Charts....
You can reach the Spouses, Children or Parents menus.
B) By clicking on the EDIT button on an individual's genealogy card
C) By clicking on the EDIT button in the "Family" section.
My recommendation for using the Attach/Detach feature is to access it through the MANAGE function (e.g. Manage Spouses or Manage Children). You can always do an Attach/Detach without using this screen, but in the MANAGE screen you can see and adjust ALL details at once, which is very helpful.
Example 1:
If A and B are second cousins who are married, and you want to add this relationship without adding A or B to the family tree (as they are already there), select A, reach the Manage Spouses menu for A, and then select Attach Spouse, and select B.
Example 2:
If you have two unrelated people in your tree, C and D, and you’ve discovered that C is the father of D, you can add this relationship by selecting C, then reach its Children menu, click ‘Attach Existing Child’ and select D.
I keep getting a run time error (MS Visual Basic C Runtime Error) when the program starts. Anybody encountered this before and if so how did they cure this? Mailed support at My Heritage but no reply!!

In My Family Tree the ID numbers is showing 96 but there are not 96 people listed. How do you re-use ID numbers. Also the Totals does not match the numbers. Help!!!
This has probably been brought up somewhere, or the info is right there in front of me but I just don't get it, but can site members add to the same family tree or would they need to pass relevant information onto the site administrator.
import an other gedcom (can be done but creates multiple same persons, prefixes (de Vos is prefix "de" surname Vos) and more of these issues (imported from gramps)
chose between update site (seperate project) or seprate project
merge between projects (peace of tree from other project)
clean up unused atributes
clean up names (all upper/lower or first letter uppercase)
GEOcoordinates (google maps link for example)
add plugins (ake make onwn addons) such as making a custom import from websites (databanks)
only export .zed from other heritage site (not gedcom)
bulk adding of source refrences (if you added from 1 source point a lot of relatives
zoom out in a whole overview of tree so navigating would be better (already now it's good)
print whole / part tree on big paper (plotter) or desktop printer
show only relatives off (if you want all related to 1 "level" relative (with or without direct married partner, kids in other name)
genderchange of person
married name of man (in the netherlands is possible to assume the name of the wife)
some relatives use 2 surnames or is a custom in a country when parents are not married
ability to show married surname
adding "to do marker" (note for todo) and that you can make a view of all todo items
adding websites to sources/resources (sperate fields)
merging multiple gedcom " persons" to one is nice because it can save a lot of time adding persons. note: merge needs to see if added data = same or different and ad als alternate or request user for import (also has to add source of import)
I'm with you on adding citations and links to other pages. I could copy and paste, but for obvious reasons, I don't want to do that. Seems like a "no brainer" tool. I don't know if we can to it in FTB, but even if I can, I don't want to import my FTB because then I can't edit the tree online. It could be I'm missing it, but I sure can't find it.
Hi! I have this problem for a while now and had sent numerous email on how I can resolve my problem...my family tree would not load...I have explained details of it but did not get anymore response...
after all the hardship of building the family site and uploading photos, I might just end up deleting my site..which is no use if I cannot see my family tree.
When clicking on Family Tree, you get the message "Loading Family Tree..." and nothing happens. The tree doesn't load. It just sits there for hours, correct?
If you see this message and do NOT see the tree icon with the revolving green arrow it means you do not have Adobe Flash Player installed on your computer.
Last year I joined your site, I used my old e-mail. I have some family members that would like to join my family tree but I can't get in cause I somehow forgot my password. If anyone can help me that would be great..
If you lost your password just go to the site and at the right hand side go to Log in.
Click Forgot my password and a new password will be emailed to you automatically. That is if you can get to your old email, if not, please write to support@myheritage.com providing the email you used to sign up and we will send you a new password as soon as possible.
Some family members have been on the site and modified their personal details. If I now publish from Family Tree Builder, will it overwrite the new information on the web site. I'd like to be able to restore from the web site but that feature is not available yet.
I suppose what I'm asking is that when you publish does it synchonise both ends.
