In Family Tree Builder (FTB), the first spouse you add is considered the "primary spouse" and is displayed on the family tree by default.
In order to change the priority (primary, secondary) of a spouse you can use the "Manage Spouses" command. In FTB go to the genealogy card of the person who is more closely related to you among the two spouses (e.g. if your brother divorced your sister-in-law, go to your brother's genealogy card first).
Click on the "Edit" button and choose "Spouses" then "Manage Spouses". A popup will appear detailing all the marriages listed for that person. In the lower right hand corner of the screen, you will see a little button that looks like a clock with a green arrow on it.Use this button to change the order of spouses and set a "primary spouse" (the one that will be shown in Tree View and also in your Immersive Tree after publishing to the Web).

I have made a mistake in a branch by adding children and grandchildren of one family member who are actually the progeny of another. Is there a way of easily moving a branch or do I have to delete and start over.

I'm just a user, like you, but have made the same mistake before. If you bring up the person you want to change, then click the "edit" button, you will see a picklist. On this list you will see "parents". Scroll up to "parents" and you will see options to replace parents, or detach parents, etc. You should be able to fix the problem there.
hi - this is my first time using this forum so i was kinda glad to find someone who has had a similar problem to me, but unfortunately i can't help you with your problem, im looking a solution to mine - i have added a partner in error to someone and i don't know how to delete them - all i can seem to do is edit their details. In your question you implied that you knew how to delete them all and start over - how do i delete people added by mistake in the wrong place?
As I mentioned in my reply above, same principal. Bring up the person you added in error. Click on "edit". Choose "spouse" from the list and you can detach the spouse. You can then re-attach to a different person, if you want. If you want to totally delete a person, I think you can find them in the list on the left side of your screen and hit the delete button.
I'm kinda having the same problems but I don't have and edit button anywhere. I can't delete a person I can only remove facts about them. What am I not seeing???
I'm using the Family Tree Builder software that I downloaded from the MyHeritage site. If you are doing your input directly into an online tree, you won't have the same options.
If you are using the online tree, I don't know the answer to that question. I'm just a user, like you. Maybe you should contact the MyHeritage people using the email contact link. I have used it and received prompt answers to my questions. Good luck!
You can add someone who is already in your tree as a spouse. Click the "add spouse" link next to the person you are working on. A box pops up to add all the info on that person. On the left side of that box, there is an option to "attach an existing spouse". Select that, then find the person you want on the list. That way you don't have to keep putting the same people in all the time, and the relationships stay straight.
You can't do this with the online version. You have to download and use the Family Tree Builder software to get these options. If you scroll down on this board, you will see a reply from the myHeritage team that explains the process in detail. Good luck!
I have come across this in my family tree to some degree and it involves me - my cousin and myself married 2 brothers!! Its not a tree we are creating its a hedge!! As well, further back into the tree i have discovered a brother and sister of one family marrying into a brother and sister of another family and haven't heard of a solution to link these connections without duplicating family trees unfortunately.
Unfortunately, we do not yet have a method to enter complex relationships in an online family tree. We are working on adding this.
For the Family Tree Builder software:
The Attach/Detach feature should be used anytime you want to create a relationship between two people who are already in the family tree. For example, if cousins who are already in your family tree are married to each other, you can attach them as spouses without listing any of them in the tree twice.
So Attach, as opposed to Add, lets you draw a connecting line between two people who are already in the tree, and Detach removes that connection but without deleting any of the individuals. For each type of relationship there is a way to Attach or Detach. For husband and wife this feature is located in the "Spouses" menu. For children it is located in the "Children" menu. For parents it is located in the "Parents" menu.
There are multiple ways to reach these menus in order to invoke the Attach or Detach functionality. They are all the same so you can pick the one you find most convenient.
A) On the main menu, under Person -
File/Edit/View/PERSON/Family/Charts....
You can reach the Spouses, Children or Parents menus.
B) By clicking on the EDIT button on an individual's genealogy card
C) By clicking on the EDIT button in the "Family" section.
My recommendation for using the Attach/Detach feature is to access it through the MANAGE function (e.g. Manage Spouses or Manage Children). You can always do an Attach/Detach without using this screen, but in the MANAGE screen you can see and adjust ALL details at once, which is very helpful.
Example 1:
If A and B are second cousins who are married, and you want to add this relationship without adding A or B to the family tree (as they are already there), select A, reach the Manage Spouses menu for A, and then select Attach Spouse, and select B.
Example 2:
If you have two unrelated people in your tree, C and D, and you’ve discovered that C is the father of D, you can add this relationship by selecting C, then reach its Children menu, click ‘Attach Existing Child’ and select D.
I keep getting a run time error (MS Visual Basic C Runtime Error) when the program starts. Anybody encountered this before and if so how did they cure this? Mailed support at My Heritage but no reply!!
