I have the same question. It says to go into "setting" and under "general preference" one can change it. I've done that, but the site for some reason can't save my new data.
I just started building my family tree and added till now only few family members.
I was looking for other family members in other trees and found my grandfather in one of them.
Is it possible to add my grandfather from this tree - actually he already "exits" there or I have to add him again?
How can I "connect" the trees (my family and this one I found)?
Please, advice.
Many thanks,
Ronni
Hi Lora,
Many thanks for you kind help with this issue. The answer is pretty disappointing. actually it will cause add same person at least twice.
I think it will be much better to add this feature as "free of charge" in order to increase number of the tree members. This way users can easily reach the limitation of the "free users" and cause them to make premium upgrade.
Hopefully marketing group will vote for such kind of change in your policy.
First of all congratulations on finding a member of your family on another tree! Hope you find many more!
Regarding your question, if you want your grandfather to appear in your tree you also need to add him to your tree but instead of writing all the information you can merge information from that tree.
And that's a new feature for our premium users only. To find out more about this feature please go to the related article in our help center:
Can I merge my Smart Matching results from another site?

The computer I was using went down and I lost my downlaoded prgram so I downloaded again and when I publish to MH I'm maxed out at 500 people but I have roughly 200 of the "same" people.
How can I delete the first tree since the program uploads to the new tree ???
It is possible to split your family tree into two so that they can each be placed on different sites, but the process is a little complicated.
Firstly, if you don’t already have it, please download the free MyHeritage family tree building software Family Tree Builder.
Then, open a browser and log into your Family Site on MyHeritage.com, then go to the Family Tree tab > Manage Trees in your Family Site.
Click the ‘export GEDCOM’ link on top of your list of family trees. This will save your family tree to your computer as a file with a .ged extension. Once you have the file downloaded, and you have properly installed Family Tree Builder, you can double click on the GEDCOM file that you exported and it should open up automatically in Family Tree Builder. This should restore your entire project into Family Tree Builder, except for the photos.
Next, please use the guide in the FAQ link below to export a branch from your main tree and export that branch only to a Gedcom file that will be saved on your computer.
Then Upload that Gedcom file to one of your family sites.
Next, do the same procedure, this time exporting a Gedcom file with the other half of the tree that you would like on the other site, and save the file to your computer. Then upload that file to the other site.
You can delete the original Gedcom file that you have on your original site, if you’d like. To do this, go into Manage Trees, and find the original tree, and click on delete.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Hi, My members are receiving emails about birthdays and anniversaries and I can't see how to stop them. I don't receive them. Can anybody help please ?
Under settings I have deselected "Send event reminders" also deselected
"Send me event reminders for the following family events:" and the listed events.
In addition "Import events from family tree into calendar" is selected as it's useful to see the events on the home page, but this setting says nothing about unwanted emails !
I have same problem too.
Centrally you can disable only newsletter sending, but "Sent event reminders" item must disable every member individually in private profile! It is imperfection, that webmaster cannot disable it as global action.
(Hey, programmers, can you solve this...?)
If it has to be disabled by every individual that is ludicrous. How can MH expect everybody to have the technical nouse to understand they need to and how to do this !
Maybe my genetic line is intellectually defective, but none of my members have worked that out. Not surprising since even the webmaster ISN'T INFORMED IT IS NECCESSARY !
Another bug (and this is a bug), why is this sill emailing policy sending out wedding anniversaries when the marriage is marked as divorced and the spouse has a new partner !
