How do I enter 2 surnames for one individual? My second husband adopted my children and have his name but I don't want two surname entries for the same person. However, I want their biological father's tree connected to them.
I assume you are using the online family tree editor (rather than our family tree software Family Tree Builder).
The online family tree editor has a drawback which is, if a genealogy card (that is what the square is called) is connected to other genealogy cards, it cannot be removed without deleting all other connections until the person you wanted to delete has no one else connected to him or her.
Think of a chain. If you wanted to remove a link in the middle of the chain you would have to start removing links from one end of the chain in order to reach the link you originally intended to remove. You couldn't simply take out the link in the middle.
(We are going to release a new version of the online family tree editor in the near future with a better solution to this. We've already started working on it.)
I understand that in some cases removing many people in order to reach one mistake can be a lot of work. There is another solution which is to use our family tree software Family Tree Builder. The operation takes several steps and I recommend it only for people who have a good grasp of computers and importing/exporting files. If you feel you would like to learn how to move your tree into Family Tree Builder, let me know and I'll explain.
Hi, I made my account today so im a noob. Im trying to use romanian letters in names but i dont know how. I looked around the forum and see people talking about FTB but i have no idea what it is or how to use it. Also on the homepage they say there is a name translator feature but i can't find it! I tried switch language to romanian but names stay the same.
It's nice to have you as part of the MyHeritage.com family.
At MyHeritage.com there are a few ways to build your family tree.
You can build your tree using Family Tree Builder (FTB). Family Tree Builder is our free family tree software. If you'd like to give it a try, you can download it here: www.myheritage.com/family-tree-builder.
FTB has many great features that help you to build your tree, such as Smart Research which automatically searches in the top 100 genealogy-related web sites and databases on the net for names in the tree as you work on the tree. FTB has many great charts and reports for printing your family tree such as the Book Report and a special Maps feature that shows you where people in your tree lived and migrated during their lifetimes.
When you use FTB to build your tree, you can "Publish" it to your family site at MyHeritage.com so that your friends and family can view the tree. FTB trees are "read-only" on your family site - they cannot be edited online.
Alternatively, you can build your family tree directly online. I see that you have already started a family tree on your family site.
Family Trees that are started online can, of course, be edited online. The benefit of creating a tree that can be edited online is that your family members can help you with the tree. They can add photos and information to the tree that you might not have. And it doesn't matter how far away they might live from you because everything is online.
You can build your tree in Romanian both in Family Tree Builder and on your family site. As long as you are able to type Romanian characters with your keyboard there should be no problem to enter them into your tree.
If you started out working in English and want to change the language of your family site to Romanian, scroll down to the bottom right corner of any page on MyHeritage.com and use the flag icon to change your language. This will not affect the characters you enter in the tree, but it will change all the navigation on your site to Romanian.
If you entered data in your tree in English and want to change it to Romanian, you will have to make the changes manually. There is no online translation tool.
I believe what you read about is the Translation Wizard in FTB. In FTB it is possible to build your family tree in several languages at once. For example, you might wish to build your family tree in both Romanian and English so that relatives who don't speak Romanian will also enjoy the family tree. This is when using the Translation Wizard becomes relevant. It creates a report of all the names (family names and place names) in the tree, groups them and allows you to easily translate many entries at once.
If you have 25 entries for the name Vlad in your tree, the Translation Wizard allows you to translate Vlad once in order to change all 25 names in one go.
Due to the fact that your online tree is built without a distinction between languages in the data you enter, there is no need for this tool for online trees.
Hi Jael, thanks alot for taking yourself so much time to answear my post , it has helped me understand alot more! I have downloaded the FTB now and i like its "Charts" feature (it's more effective than the"Print Charts" on the website).
I'm now wondering if it's possible to export the family tree on my website to FTB, or if i'll have to redo it manually there?
It's my pleasure to help you understand how to use MyHeritage.com. I'm glad this information helped you.
You can export a gedcom file of your family tree. Please be aware that if there are photos in your family tree, they will not be included in the gedcom file. Photos will have to be added again manually.
In order to export a gedcom, go to the Family Tree page on your family site. Click on Manage Trees. Just above the list of trees there is a link "Export GEDCOM". Use this to create a gedcom file which can then be imported into Family Tree Builder.
I just want to stress again that moving to FTB means your tree will not be editable on your family site. If collaboration with your family members to build the tree is one of the more important aspects for you about having a family tree here at MyHeritage.com I recommend you to consider this.
**We are working on a fantastic project that will allow FTB users to make changes online and then download those changes. It's the next big thing and we're working hard on it right now. So if you're torn between whether to use FTB or stick with your online tree, no worries, soon enough there will be satisfaction for all.

Jag söker efter släkten Torslow. Jag hittade två familjer som lagt in om den släkten. Idag hittar jag inte tillbaka till detta. Jag tillhör den släkten på pappas sida. Då jag vet en hel del om släkten Torslow.

You can research your family history using the following methods:
1. Use our specialized genealogy search engine MyHeritage.com Research, found here:http://www.myheritage.com/research. It utilizes a unique approach: each search that you run there, will be applied on 1,500 different genealogy databases and websites (including MyHeritage.com) and you will receive consolidated results. Each search takes time but will save you months of manual searches.
2. Use the MyHeritage.com Smart Matches feature. This unique feature compares your family tree to the millions of other family trees on MyHeritage.com and discovers family trees that match (overlap) your tree. This is found in the Family Tree > Smart Matches page of your family site, or in the Family Tree Builder software. If you are using Family Tree Builder, be sure to publish your family tree first as this increases the quality and quantity of your Smart Matches.
3. Use the Smart Research feature in Family Tree Builder (Premium feature). It will research your entire family tree automatically in more than 100 of the world's best genealogy websites and databases.
4. Submit a question to other genealogists on our genealogy forums, here:http://www.myheritage.com/genealogy-forums
Good luck with your research!
This should not be the case. If a couple is marked as divorced, you should not see "## birthday of X, X is married to Y".
If you find that a divorced couple is listed as being married, check a few things first:
1. Make sure there is a divorce fact for the couple in question (separation, anullment, etc. are not the same thing).
2. Make sure there is only one entry in your tree for both of the individuals involved.
3. In the Site Members list on your family site, view the profile of each member and check their association to the family tree. Are they associated to the correct individual in the tree?
If you find that the above is correct and the couple is still shown as being married, please give me the names of the individuals and I will check to make sure we don't have a bug that is causing the erroneous relationship.
