I'm completly new to MyHeritage, and I just uploaded my GEDCOM-file, and all the letters æ, ø and å (Norwegian letters) are corrupt. With close to 9000 names, I don't think I'll ever get around to manually correct all of them. (http://www.myheritage.no/site-146701772/karlsoy-genealogy)
I downloaded the file from phpGedView.
Uploaded it twice, but no luck. Any advice, before I start adding photos and building the tree even more?
There is no setting on your family site to allow you to change all the corrupted names at once. They will have to be fixed manually.
What program did you create the GEDCOM file in and where did you export it from?
You can try to use our family tree software on the original (good) file to export a GEDCOM that will not be corrupted and then import that onto your family site.
I have the same problem. It has nothing to do with a corrupt GEDCOM file. My GEDCOM file is just fine. It is a problem with Family Tree Builder because it won't accept special characaters. I am simply not going to be able to use this program because all my Swedish and Norwegian names are nonsense (e.g. Øivind, Håbol, Västra Götaland) and it will take too long to fix them all individually. This is very primitive! When will this bug be fixed?
I'm sure this gets asked a lot, but is there an easy way to add people tagged in the photos section to the family tree section? I assumed that this would be automatic, but I can't seem to find a way to make the family tree and photo sections share the information I've already put in.
Thanks for your response, but I still can't figure it out. I started my site by uploading photos and tagging them, and now have a pretty good listing of people tagged that I'd like to add to the family tree. I went to Photos & Videos > Tag people and changed their personal photo, but this only changed the tagged profile and did not give me the option to add/change anything on the family tree.
I guess what I'm really trying to do is add the tagged people from the photos to the family tree. When I am in the tagging section, the names that I've added to the family tree appear as suggestions when tagging. I am looking for the opposite of that, so that the tagged names from the photos appear as suggestions when building my family tree.
Hi all and a happy new year to you all i have had to format my pc and reinstall all my stuff again so now i have no data on my family tree on my pc is there any way i can upload this from the website back to my pc ???
I am putting together a tree for a friend and have found that the residence fact is disappearing. I have this on as a custom fact ( as in the options list avaialble, if I select 'residence' I get 'census') - has anyone else had this problem - and if so, how can it be fixed without trawling all through the censuses and other records all over again - not to mention having to type 'em all in again!
Thanks Noam, for the information - however, on my own tree I have residence as a custom fact. I use this as a matter of course when adding ancestors to my own tree. The tab within the edit facility seems more suited to current residences rather than ancient ones.
I can put the addresses, if I want to, in the 'notes' box for each census for my friend's tree, but I can't understand why it works on mine but not on his. At the moment his is only a small tree - and up until yesterday, after a few days' work, residence remained definitely there, as a custom fact, every day, after saving and shutting down, when I opened the tree again.
The street addresses are important both to me and to my mate: he is extremely parochial, and when he had to move out of his own parish a couple of years ago, became quite upset at the thought that moving house - albeit only by a couple of miles- would take him from his birthplace to the adjoining parish. He is also interested in the social conditions and history of the areas in which his ancestors lived and worked and, very often, died.
I am using your (very good) free version:is residence available as a custom fact on the paid-for version? If so it would be worthwhile upgrading!
