I thought you would be interested to know that we are in the midst of some very important changes in the way SuperSearch returns results that will be to your advantage.
Currently SuperSearch works kind of like Google in the sense that it gives you ALL possible results and then ranks them according to relevancy. That's why if you search for a specific name and you might expect to get a few results, you actually end up with thousands or hundreds of thousands of results.
The best results are supposed to be at the top, so even if you get back a huge number of results you might only need to look at the first page. Just like in Google.
We leave the seemingly irrelevant results in the list because its possible that mistakes were made in spelling or with dates. This means results which at first glance might look wrong could actually be good results upon further investigation. We want to give you the opportunity to review those matches and make the decision whether or not they are good or bad rather than automatically filtering those out.
I hope this helps to give you an understanding behind the reason why you receive so many matches when you search a name.
Now to the changes we're making.
1. We're adding a check box to automatically make all search fields exact. Checking this box will greatly reduce the number of results without having to go to the Advanced search and set the exactness of many different fields.
2. Improved ranking. We're doing a lot to increase the relevancy of the results you get at the top of the list. This should greatly increase the chances you will get good results at the top of the list, regardless of the number of hits you get back.
I'm posting this on the other forum thread you posted on as well, for the benefit of anyone who may read this post later.

After being on Ancestry for 2 years I thought I would try Heritage, but after paying for the basic , I releised that I couldnt look up anything ,so signed up for the full premier membership, nothing to tell me how much it was. I have found it very difficult to research family members, the actual family tree is difficult to see, as when you reduce the size you only get the blank shapes, Im not happy, will not be renewing my membership, wish I had stayed where I was.
Please note that I have replied to your personal inbox in order to assist you with any problems that you may be facing.
Kind Regards,
Dean,
Hi Dean,
I have a question that may contain an answer that would be beneficial to the whole MyHeritage.com family.
If the information is not Confidential, or Private, WHY DO YOU NOT post the answer to a members question here???? Are you sending them information that should not be shared with another member? If not, please do us all a favor and post the answer to the questions here.
That way we could all profit from the answer and it seems to me would save you answering the same question for another member.
I think we have a great program and I have been very satisfied with the timely way Support has responded to my questions. This is just one of the "little" quirks that leaves me wondering.
We have nothing to hide sir, it's just sometimes a user may have more than one problem that will require me waiting for a reply to better understand the problem that they may be experiencing.
This way I get the user into my inbox and can assist them as quickly as possible and not fill the forum with ongoing correspondance that would make for lengthy reading which as we all know most people will simply skim over as it takes some time.
However, should there be more than one user within the same forum thread that is inquiring about the same problem then we will answer within the forum to benefit that community.
I hope that this has proven to be a useful explanation to you and I wish you a very good day.
Forgive me if you thought I was implying you were trying to "hide" information. That was not my intention at all.
It just seemed to me that others might be going through similar problems, but not know how to ask for the help. There are probably many of us who are not really proficient in our use of MyHeritage.
Am ready to upgrade to Premium Plus 5 year plan and have a discount offer.
However would someone advise, when I get to the confirm credit card and payment page, it looks like I am going to be charged the total (over £300) or will that be devided by 5.
Which would be one payment of just over £60 and then repeated annually for four more years?
Did you see something on the page that indicated you could pay 5 payments? It's been awhile, but to the best of my memory I paid the full amount initially. If I understand the processes that is the way they are able to offer the great discount.
Not sure I helped, but from one member to another and besides, it looks like you have already upgraded and I congratulate you on that. I'm guessing that because I now see you have the PremiumPlus icon.
Yes indeed, when I first looked at upgrading, it did state under the 5 year option, that it would be charged annually but then wanted to charge me the full amount. It was not very clear.
However, customer services contacted me and explained fully. Some members of the family agreed to contribute, so I went ahead.
Over all, we are quite pleased with the site, although I now feel that for the amount paid (£320) there should be more in the way of which documents can be searched (ie the census) without having to pay yet more. I have now found other sites that would have included that in the membership fee. Although I do prefer the My Heritage way of building the tree.
Glad you got that worked out for you. I am also a PremiumPlus subscriber, but I'm wrestling with whether or not to continue or to move entirely to Ancestry.com. Yes, their fee is much higher, but I have not gone to a single site that the search provides that requires additional fees. Can't say that for MyHeritage.
I paid the additional fee at WorldSearch, but that site is totally useless to me. None of the information there has applied to my tree.
That being said, I'm sure you have noticed that the Record Matches does include the 1940 Census, but that is the only one I have seen. Not sure why the many other Census' do not show up. BTW, I noticed your location is in UK, do you have a number of people that migrated to the US?
Sorry this is so long, but one other thing, I have invested in the DNA program. I'm hoping this will make MyHeritage of more value to me. Closing this.......... Have a geat day!
Yes I am in the UK and although I know I have ancestors who went to both the US and Canada, I have not been trying to search them as of yet. Enough to do with my UK ancestors.
The census records for UK are different to the states, in that they run from 1841 to 1911. After 1911 they are not available to the public.
My Heritage does not give me access to any UK census records, only a sort of face page informing me there is a record but I need to subscribe to view it. However even that gives far less results than other sites do. So I do not believe it's worth the increased My Heritage subscription.
I managed to get a fourteen day free trial on Ancestry.com with full census access which proved very usefull but even working ten hours a day, I still ran out of time to do all I wanted and I am left with loads of un-answered questions.
Cross Matches on My Heritage worry me a bit. I have come across too many trees with completely wrong information on them. I believe that there is a lot of guess work going on out there. Problem is the errors are copied from one tree to another thus compounding the situation.
Although an expensive way of doing things, I feel I will have to use a monthly subscription, to perhaps Ancestry.com to be able to search further. I don't think I will need more than say two months to do what I want.
Very good luck with the DNA program, intriguing but I think not for me.
My own closest link with the States, is that I am a huge 50's rockabilly and blues collector with nearly 3000 cd albums of mostly music from the southern states. Some country music as well; Patsy Cline type of thing. A little modern also; Dwight Yoakam etc.
It's really strange, but I did the Ancestry DNA and they came back with my ethnicity being 83% British Isles, 8% Central European and 9% Uncertain. This is strange, because, my Great-Grandfather and Great-Grandmother both were born in Germany. My GGF came to the USA in 1867, not sure when my GGM arrived. They married in Ohio and although I did not know them their Son was the father of my father and I can pretty well document them here in the States, but I hit a wall when trying to find anything about them in Germany.
I have no idea where the British Isles comes from. From what I have read the DNA through MyHeritage should give me more information. Guess I'll find that out when I get the results. One thing about the DNA through MyHeritage is that I will be able to download all the various "parts" of the report. Have no idea what I would do with it, but Ancestry only gives me the above breakdown on ethnicity and will not release any of the DNA reports. I have many who have been reported to me (Ancestry) as possible distant cousins, but have found only 1 that looks favorable.
You are right about the cross matches on MyHeritage. I have thousands that show up, but I have not found it to be time worthy to pursure them. I did the Monthly thing for a while on Ancestry and then I moved up to the 6 month subscription. That's where I am now. I am using the World Explorer program. For the most part, I am really pleased with the ability to add information in Ancestry, much easier. I do have their Family Tree Maker 2012 which is a really good tool. I have found it easier to work with than MyHeritage Family Tree Builder, although the FTB is free.
One thing I have done and will continue to do (I think it will help me with Heritage DNA) is that after I have updated a lot of info on Ancestry I export to a GED file and then Import it into Heritage.
I appreciate your taste in American music. I'm a Big Band fan of the 40's-50's era and a some of the Country from that time also. I'll have to say that I have recently enjoyed some of the YouTube video's of, I think it is called, Brittain's Got Talent. Some of those folks, especially those children are amazing. My favorite music of today is Southern Gospel and I notice that many of the groups are doing concerts in the UK.
Go to the top right side of the screen where your name is.
Beneath your name choose no. 3: in Norwegian "Nettside innstillinger" or "Konto for nettside". In the new webside choose no. 2 from the left: "Mine innstillinger".
I hope this works and that you get a understanding of what the norwegian words means :)
After merging to familytrees in Family Tree Builder, the tree is parted in two in MyHeritage. I see my family in one space and have to click on my husband's name to view his part of the family.
Is there any way I can fix this so I can see the whole tree in one big family in MyHeritage?
It gets like this when there is a surten amount of persons in the tree. If you choose one of your children then you will see bouth your and your husbands tree.
One of my female ancestors had two children out of wedlock but married another person much later in life. The problem is that the Family Tree Builder shows this man as the natural father of the two children, which he is not.
If I try to change him to the adopted father, their natural mother is automatically changed to their adoptive mother
How can I show the correct relationship and status
I don´t have the answer, but am also searching for how to manage, when only one of the married couple owns a child, which is quite common now a days. ;-(
I think that the best solution is to add another spouse to the known parent. If you don't know or don1t want to show his or her name call him or hel as 'Unknown'. Then add the child to this person.
Thank you for your reply. The suggestion is certainly better than what I have now, but this involves creating a "Spouse" which interprets as unknown husband.
As she never married the father(s) the my heritage module should allow for a single parent to be shown correctly.
As Helle points out, this is a common occurrence these days
