I uploaded my family tree in .gedcom file. After uploading I realized that I didn't include all family members, but by then I had already updated some, so thought of uploading larger set the second time.
It seems that myheritage.com things it's two different individuals on two different trees. I am not using premium version of myheritage.com but wanted to know if smartmatching should have identified the two individuals on the two different .gedcom files when they actually are the same. I have the duplicates currently to the tune of 80 individuals.
Please note that each time that you edit your tree, this will cause the smartmatches to be recalculated for your site. This may take time, as there is a long list of sites that are waiting for matches. For non-paying users, there is a delay of around three weeks. This means that you should get some matches in a few weeks, if you do not edit it again until then!
Paying users are given priority for smartmatching their trees.
When you upgrade to Premium, you will also receive priority support, as well as: up to 2,500 people in your family tree online, extended storage for family photos, videos, and documents online, access to added features in Family Tree Builder; Smart Research, Smart Match Merge, All-in-one chart, and Publishing of videos, audios, and documents.
Please log into your site, and go into Settings > Site Account to see the various plans and their prices.
While I understand that non-paying users will have to wait for at least 3 weeks after the last update, it is not clear how much will the premium users wait before they get the priority and get their Smart match updated. I have not seen any example use of Smartmatches and therefore I am not sure whether to go for premium upgrade or not.
I would like to contact a member with a certain surname - how can I do it? His surname does not match mine, but it matches my grandmother's one. emails are apparently hidden.
I imported a GEDCOM and opened in Builder. I then decided to delete via the Manage Tree options in Builder and it did delete. But it is still showing up on the website. I have tried publishing after I deleted but it still shows up. I did this about a hour ago.
How do I remove family the tree named 497605 from my family website and I do not want it to appear with my other family trees? It no longer shows up in Builder but does not update the website.
I found the answer on another post. I am posting below.
"Actuly that option has been addressed you can find it only one way. It took me quit a while to find it.
From the home page select the (family Tree) tab. when it comes up you will see 2 menu lines 1 with all the tabs and right under it the 2nd menu line. look at the right side of it and select (Manage Trees) select that and when that page comes up you will see a box listing your (Trees) and a (Delete) option on the far right."
We have one large 31,060 member site that I uploaded a gedcom file to and it is really running great on your system.
I am trying to find a way to get changes made on web site back to my genealogy program we are using legacy and FTM from Ancestry.com.
I have been downloading the file which has several added photo fields added to the gedcom, which I have taken out by importing it as gedcom and ignoring those headers or fields. It takes my machine 12.5 hrs to merge these files together. Is there anyway that we can get only changes made to file from log's or some kind of change report changed gedcom file would be great.
The other problem I have is how to get the merged and changed by using working on our machine changes file back on the server or site so I don't loose the photo links. I thought importing to a new file name but then I loose the photo links. I tried using your windows program but when I publish it then our family can not edit and make changes to our site.
I can't find a software package that will compare files and only give me changes to our online or offline gedcom. (we are making changes on our FTM because there is no full page edit screen takes to much effort to edit / add a new person with all their information. To many screens to edit to get all dates etc added in. Maybe a suggestion would be to do a one page entry or edit screen.
If site was not 31,000 names it would be easier. Any suggestions how to handle this would be greatly appreciated.
On one of your gedcom downloads it only comes into browser and is not a download is there a reason for this? I think it is the one it emails us when it is ready.
OK, I've got that part down pat, except when I edit in FTB and upload, the pictures disappear. Same thing when I download from the web to FTB. With the number of pictures that I have, I don't want to upload, re-tag and select personal photos every time I make a change.
I hope this is because of something I am doing wrong.
As you mentioned here, Gedcom files do not replace previously uploaded Gedcom files. There is also no option to upload a Gedcom file of only updates made to the tree.
Alternatively, each time that you publish a family tree to your family site from Family Tree Builder, if you leave the name of the project the same, then the publishing will replace the previously published version of the project. It does this by publishing only the updates to the tree, so this will take much less time then uploading your Gedcom file each time you make changes to your tree.
The drawback of using this method is that when you create a family tree in Family Tree Builder and publish it to your family site, you CANNOT edit the tree online.
If you built your tree in Family Tree Builder, each time you would like to make changes to your tree online, edit your tree in Family Tree Builder and then re-publish your family tree to your family site. This will update the previously published tree (with the same name) on your site.
You can do this, and publish your tree to your family site, and at the same time, export a Gedcom from Family Tree Builder to use in your other program.
To summarize, I think that you will have to decide whether it is more important for you to have a version of your tree that is editable online, or one that uploads changes quickly.
We are working on a version of Family Tree Builder where the trees will be editable online for the future!
