Sorry for so many questions, but I am a newbie, as you can see...(new to modern family tree software altogether - used to have a DOS organisation programme with which I built a small, simple tree but there never was any possibility, let alone question, of uploading to the web).
I publish one tree online (another I don't). After updating FTB and initiating online publishing I get a message telling me that the online tree is newer and asking whether I wish to continue publishing.
My computer clock appears correctly set, i.e. correct time zone (GMT automatically adjusted for daylight saving time) and corrrect time
I am wondering if there is a clash with the clock on your website/server.
I went back 7 pages of FAQs but saw nothing on the subject.
I am very new at all of this!! I just found MH and learned what a GEDCOM was about 5 days ago so please bare with me. My husband wants to make his own family site and tree at MH and I have a lot of info of his on mine. So, is it possible to make a GEDCOM so he can use it for his tree?
Thank you, what if he only wants to copy his side of the family? My site has he & I and there is a lot of ancestors on my side of the line. He wanted to start one for his side of our family so he can add a lot more people (or invite his family members to help out. Thank you for replying though we did see that place to copy my entire tree but he doesn't want to do that.
Limit for free of cost is 250 peoples. If you oversize this in future, simply pay small amount yearly for next limit - 2500 peoples in Premium, or unlimited in PremiumPlus subscription.
The another matter is, if you want collaborate fith whole distant family. Then is better use online tree on website, than FTB (standalone software product).
Personally, I like rather one full tree, than more independent. Try create online one common tree, and work together on other sides. This saves all bindings in family tree. In future is possible every time split it, by export Gedcom and import it in different tree and delete unwanted.
If I wish to send someone a family tree who is also running FTB on his/her computer, is it necessary to go via a GEDCOM file or can I just send the .zed file?
You could replace the zed file in your project file folder each time. However, I'm not aware of your proficiency with the program, nor of that of your partner so I recommend using a standard procedure as a means to reduce mistakes.
Also, if your partner adds new photos to the tree and then sends you the zed file only, those new photos will not be included. You would end up with the camera icon which signifies a photo has been added to the tree but the program cannot find the actual photo file.
The zed file includes the file paths to the photos but not the photos themselves.
