You should have no problem transferring the file as you would any other file. If you use a jump drive with a remote connection and know how to transfer other files with it, just follow the same steps you normally would.
Alternatively you can use a pen drive or a file sharing site such as www.rapidshare.com to upload the file and get a URL you can download the file from on the second computer.
I recently imported a GEDCOM file and all the people from the file show up with their names but when I open up the "Edit Details for X" all the "name"-fields are blank.
Also, none of the locations or the description of facts were transferd.
EDIT: Ok, it seems to be a bug(or maybe it's a feature):
the file was exported from a copy of FTB that uses english as data input language and to a version that has another input language so it wouldn't show up. However if I changed to english or added it as a secondary language all the info would show up.
It would be nice to have an option in the import GEDCOM wizard to convert or just copy all the information to your current primary language if FTB detects that there is information in the file written under another language.
If a person has the information "Born in: New York, USA" in english and the primary laungage is something else I would still want the birthplace information without having to hunt for it.
When you import the file to Family Tree Builder (File > Import GEDCOM)
make sure you choose the correct data language.
You can verify what that language is beforehand, by opening the GEDCOM file with Notepad. You will see the language at the top of the file.
After the GEDCOM is imported into Family Tree Builder, you might find that you see the names in the tree, but if you double click on one of the cards, its empty. In this case, go to the Language menu > Advanced language options,
and make sure the Main data language is set to the GEDCOM's original data language, and not only the display language.
Until MyHeritage tech support replies, here is a 'work-around'. I had asked them in another thread about transferring trees between computers running FTB.
Exporting/importing GEDCOM files is one way but, so tech support advised me, it is better to use the Manage Projects function.
On the computer with the source tree go to File (top left corner)/Manage Projects.
In the new window, Export Package.
This produces a zip file. Transfer to receiving computer (if relevant; might be on same computer of course).
On the receiving computer follow similar steps but Import Package instead.
I have not tried this myself, as I have not yet had the need, but sounds like it should work. This method is supposed to transfer all FTB info, if I understood them correctly.
What's the best way to collaborate with relatives on a project where everyone has the MyHeritage software?
Right now we have the database-folder synced with Microsoft Live Mesh on all our computers and I've read somewhere that there is an upcoming feature for Family Tree Builder which let's several users edit a family tree.
Until then: what's the best way of making sure the family tree is up-to-date on all our computers?
Family Tree Builder isn't really designed to allow collaboration between many different computers. Trees in Family Tree Builder are meant to be built and published by one person.
The best way to collaborate with family members would be to edit your tree online.
If you prefer to continue with Family Tree Builder the best thing for you to do is to allow one person at a time to work on the tree and then pass it to the next person in the group and so on.
In Sweden we have different names for our uncles and aunts on mothers side and dito on fathers side. This normally seem to function on the site.
But just now, when I finally have invited all my family to the site, I notice that an aunt (faster) has become a wrong kind of aunt (moster)! She is properly noted as my fathers sister.
Have anybody a tip how could I resolve 2 marriges between 2 families without double position in family tree? (For example - my brother could be married with a sister of my husband)
