I would love to use this service to help my wife find her birth parents or at least some blood relatives.
She was abandonned shortly after birth and the orphanage no longer exists. The nun that cared for her has passed away so it's next to impossible to find information. She was Born in Macau, we have no idea what nationality she is. She is obviously Asian but can't determine if she's Chinese or Portuguese or a mix. Her adoptive parents live in Canada and have no information that could help us investigate.
Can this service provide any clues to help her find some relatives? Does anyone else have a similar story to share with positive results?
Thanks for contacting this forum. Your problem is not new. This sometimes happens, when a smart match is detected between your site and another site, and subsequently, the owner of the other site removed that record again. In this case, the smart match is still shown for a while, eventhough it no longer exists. There is nothing that you can do against this except wait. After a day or so, the smart match will disappear on its own.
There's an option to create more than one family tree. Why? Is there an advantage to doing that? Can the trees be connected to each other? Will each tree have a 250 person limit? Or is that per account?
Thank you for your reply and my apologies if I have caused you to become confused. I shall now try to simplify this for you and any users that may also feel the same.
Each user has an account that is created when you sign up to MyHeritage using an email address and password.
The account itself does not have a limit to it as this is just a base to report to each time you log in.
Within the account you are able to create family sites. Each family site that is created is always a Basic site until upgraded if necessary. The limit for a Basic family site is 250 people. A Premium family site has a limit of 2500 people and a Premium Plus family site has an unlimited capacity.
I hope that now I have managed to explain this a little better and that now it is clearer as to what actually has limitations.
Within the account there is no limit to the amount of sites that you may create. Users often also become members of additional family web sites. This also has no limit and you may be a member in as many additional family sites you wish.
My father is showing up as a half brother to his brother even though he has the same parents. Why should this be happening. When I view his fathers line he doesn't show as a child. Any help would be appreciated.
Doesn't seem to be the problem. It seems to be treatng it as a seperate line through his mother but recognizes his father. His brothers show up as half brothers but I am thinking the problem stems from when his brother marries his wifes sister. That seems to complicate matters a little. You would think if mum and dad show up on both sides then the kids would fall in line or do I need to add him to his father, then I would have to go through the lot to the very end. It has got me beat but I bet it is something simple.
Sorry for not getting back earlier, been busy and I don't spend too much time in this forum. I was able to get the brother bit sorted out and don't ask me how as it took some doing but in one of the views I still have a second card for his mother which I can't delete. I can live with that but how she has a second card ( as some one called it) I don't know. Maybe I have to delete everything from under that card. At present I haven't got the time. Her second card only shows our family branch with only my dad as a child. This is why the others were showing up as half brothers when I viewed the family from the father. May be I just need to add the other kids in but what about everything under them? Pity there isn't a function that says merge.
I can understand your frustration at not seeing a public reply to this matter and as such decided to investigate as to why this was so.
It would appear that the reply to a Mr.Marks involved screen shots of his own personal site that could not be posted here on the public forum. This assisted with keeping Mr.Marks privacy in tact and this I am sure you will understand.
