I can only underline James' statement. My Smart Matches are gone for over 3 THREE! weeks now. And the programme hangs looking for place-names. I'm a member and paid a lot of money in advance to get these smart matches. Your machines must be very slow if the processing lasts that long!
Before I started inviting all my family to the website, I invited only my daughter to make sure everything works ok. The email she received to join the site gives a link to go to the site. The link takes her to the site but she is not able to see the welcome message which is the first thing I want my members to see!!!! If they click on something else, like the tree, then click the HOME tab, THEN they will see the welcome message. What is up with that????
Also, why would my MEMBERS have the option of upgrading the site?? My daugther can clearly click on the upgrade button. WHY????
Actually she was not taken to the tree, she was taken to the home page WITHOUT the welcome message showing. The only way to get it to show was to go to another area, then click the home button again, and then she could see the welcome message. What is the point then of having a welcome message for new guests, if they are taken directly to the tree, as you say, and will never even know there is a welcome message? Sounds very backwards to me.
Under "setting" -> "privacy" you can specify what other site members can or cannot do. By default, all site members can do pretty much anything that you as the site owner can do, but you can prevent this.
Unfortunately, you cannot give different members different degrees of rights, i.e., if you block the ability to contribute to the site for one member, you block it for all.
This is indeed a painful process, and one that is NOT satisfactorily addressed in either this forum or the interface. Adoption is a very common reality for families, and one that My Heritage should take much more seriously.
The instructions say the boxes for the second parents (in my case, the newly discovered natural parents), need to be created first and then connected to the child. How can I create the boxes for the natural parents, if they aren't connected in any other way to my adopted children or family? There doesn't seem to be a means to create people independently of adding them as a connection to an existing person on the tree.
I am not sure how to get in this convo but i have a question and cannot find the answer...
I have 3 cases with in my family where there is an adopted child - only problem is that the program does not afford a position for a child who is with one natural parent (the mother) and one adoptive parent (the father) - you cn only select both natural or both adopted
my email is incorrect on my sign up and i have yet to find out to correct that...pleaase respons to
If you want to display a child in two places in the family tree, with the natural parents and with the adopting parents, you need to first edit his connection to his parents in his Profile (Family) as adopted, then use the Connect feature to connect this child also to the biological perents. The following FAQ will be helpful in this matter:
Yes, I edited someone as adopted child, but when I want to add his natural parents, I cannot, because only the partner, brother/sister and children places are available, but adding parents is NOT available !
that is why I wrote to you ! There IS a problem with this !
It's a little complicated, but if you follow the instructions I gave, you can show this child in two places in your tree.
As I wrote, you need to first edit his connection to his parents in his Profile > Family as adopted, then use the Connect feature to connect this child also to the existing biological perents - but you need to create the biological parent's boxes before.
thank you, I created both natural and adoptive parents of one person, but now my tree (in both classic and modern view) shows only one pair of parents, I cannot find both pairs (adoptive and natural) simultaneously. What do I have to do more ?
My problem still persists: my grand-grandfather had a pair of natural parents and a pair of adoptive parents. The line that connects him in the tree with his ADOPTIVE parents is still continuous !!! IT SHOULD BE interrupted, not continuous !!! The error still persists, what kind of site is this Heritage ????????????????????????
