First, thanks for being response to all my previous questions.
When I hit the 'Tag People" link, it runs for a couple of seconds and comes back with "Congratulations all people are tagged." I really can't get to the point to tag a couple of pictures that I have loaded for learning to do this. What am I doing wrong?
Some members of the site have notified me that they have updated their information. But my site is published FTB -- I thought it is not possible for member to update? How do I fund what was updated so I can add that into the FTB?
If you go to Tag Photos and you see the message that all your photos were tagged, this means that the faces in the new photos that you added were not recognized.
We are sorry but you will have to go into the photo and tag people manually there.
Regarding members updating their information, they may be updating their profile information.
Unfortunately, there is no place to see all specific changes that your members have made.
One more questions -- when members update their profile and then I upload a new version of the tree, would that overwite their information (since I do not have it in my FTB version?
There are two different types of profiles: there is a profile of a MyHeritage.com user, and then there is the tree profile. When a user changes their MyHeritage.com account profile, this will change the way that their name is displayed in the site members list, but will not change anything in the tree.
Please see the following post in our FAQ:
Why do I see different information on a person’s profile page?
One more question. When I uploadeed or publisged the FTB, which had initially no pictures, the file size in GEDCOM is just a few KBytes. How comes the storage size on line shows 16. MBytes? Does that make sense? Even if the file was in some image format it could not be so large?
1) I publish the FTB on the Web site. So when I update the information on my local (home) computer and re-publish the updated tree -- will any pictures that other members have uploaded still be there?
2) Also, once member of my site upload pictures, can I retrieve them all to my local computer (the File->restore function can not"restore" from the Online web site.
3) When I post questions, I click on the box below that says: "Send me an e-mail when someone replies" but no emials were recieved whenpeople replied to my questions.
1. Your publishing will not override any photos added online, they will still be there.
2. You can't restore these automatically, but you can download them manually, or download a complete album from the Photos and Videos page. FTB version 6 is planned to include a two way synch mechanism, but this will take some time to develop.
3. Check your email box for email from notify2@myheritage.com. This address might be marked as spam from your email provider.
I'm new to this, but have been reading the Help pages and wonder (apologies for the long post):
If I publish the FTB onto the web site, it can not be editied; each change I have to first perform on my home computer in FTB and re-publish. So if site members want to make changes they have to send their info to me and I have to go through this process. On the other hand:
If, on the other hand, I export FTB into GEDCOM and import that to the web site -- then members can do editing without my help. This poses two problems:
1) If members are completely free to make changes, they could mess things up; perhaps any change they do should be "approved" by the site administrator (this is less work that having me change the FTB and reload the data). Why isn't there an "approve" button?
2) The Help pages explain that GEDCOM upload / download do not transfer pictures. Does that mean that if I want to back up the site (after members make changes) to my home computer, I will not get the pictures? And while at it, if I need to fix the site by uploading a new GEDCOM -- I will have to upload pictures again each time? [I kno, you offer a backup for a few buck a month.... but my home computer should be a good back up too].
So for those with a lot of experience, what is a better option -- publish FTB or used GEDCOM format?
And for the MyHeritage managers -- what about "approve" button for changes made by members?
My own personal feeling for this question is I prefer to do all edits myself and publish. The reason being as you say "they could mess things up" after spending hours compiling the tree it would take minutes to ruin all that work. I have had family members asking me to remove ex partners and family cos they dont like them anymore, so just think what they could do if they had free access to edit.
If you want to make a tree editable for people to do work on create another tree where they can add info, ie a tree for a sibling to add nieces and nephews, info that you may not find in a search, then you can look at it and take any info to the main tree.
If there were a feature for you to "approve" I still would be wary of the members info and editing.
To bring another subject into your question "Photos and editing" I have spent months collecting documents and adding keywords for searching and also tagging photos with hundreds of people, all this work can be undone within seconds of somone just clicking the "DELETE button" so I would also ask the management for an "APPROVE" button for every "DELETE" in respect of photos and any editing of keywords and tagging.
If any management read this would it be possible for editing on photos to be restricted to certain people by having different levels of membership?

Hi Colin (and others),
I like your idea of keeping 2 copies (one read-only and one updateable).
If it was integrated with a compare function of two trees that could be a base for an approvement strategy.
You have expressed my fears very well. All it takes is someone with anger motives, to destroy the entire enterprise (never mind backups). And of course, we have the worry about accidental, or a computer novice who does not know how to undo a mistake and end up causing irreparable damage.
I’d think that “myheritage” site programmers would create an “approve” “reject” button and that would solve all the problems. It requires some planning the logistics, to allow the member to see his proposed changes, without affecting the actual site view, and then implementing the changes upon approval.
If “management” keeps a “wish list” – this is one.
Once she has logged in with her old information, she can click on the MyProfile button on the top right of the screen and edit her profile and change her email address and password.
If a birthday announcement doesn't appear in your calendar alerts, please check to make sure the date in the family tree is correct.
If you use Family Tree Builder to build your family tree, republish the tree to your family site to update the changes.
Also, log in to your family site and click on Settings > Calendar. Remove the check from the box labeled "import events from the family tree". Click Save.
Then add the check to the box to re-import events. The event should now appear.
Valitse Tallenna.
Lisää sitten sekin valinta uudelleen tuoda tapahtumia. Jos pitäisi nyt näkyä.
We currently do not have the option to show names according to the Chinese way, although thank you for the suggestion. I will be sure to forward it to the appropriate department for consideration.
Please let me know if you have any other ideas as we do value such input from our users.
