Unfortunately, Smart Matches™ are not fully synchronuized between the Family Tree Builder software and the site. We are aware of this need, and are hoping to add this in the future.
In the meantime, even if you are using Family Tree Builder, you are encouraged to use the new Enhanced Smart Matching™ on your family site, and enter new information you learn using Family Tree Builder.
To transfer your Family Tree Builder Tree from one computer to another:
First, save your family tree from Family Tree Builder onto removable media. The best way to back up your family tree is to use Family Tree Builder’s backup facility on File > Back up Project. It will save a single file, perfect for backup, that contains your family tree and all its photos and documents. You can save it to any removable media device such as a flash/pen drive or CD/DVD.
The backup can then be restored on Family Tree Builder on a different computer, by going into Family Tree Builder on that computer and using File > Restore Project.
Another option is that I can change your tree settings so that you can edit it directly online from your laptop or from any other computer.
If you would like that, please let me know what tree you would like to change.

So there is absolutely no way to edit my tree online if created by your software? This is a very important feature that I wish was more clear before signing up as a Premium Member! Please clarify. Thank you , Ann
No, at this point in time there is no way to edit your tree online if you have published your tree to your site from the software, Family Tree Builder.
If you have done so, I can make the 'switch' for you, in order to make your tree on your site a web tree. It will then be fully editable on your site. From then on, you will only be able to edit that tree from your site, and not from Family Tree Builder.
OK, so I'm dumb. I'm good with that, BUT... I spent several hours entering a family tree, and the system? tells me it's MY site... but then it says I'm a guest and cannot edit the site. Also lots of entries that I made are now "Private". I'm missing something here. How do I just get into the tree and continue adding and editing?
It's okay. The best questions are always about the most basic things!
At MyHeritage.com trees are always located on a family site. You can't have a family tree online at MyHeritage.com without having a family site too.
In order to access a family site (and thus, the tree) you need to log in with an email address and password.
When you visit a family site as a guest (someone who is logged into MyHeritage.com, but not a member or site manager of the site OR someone who is not logged into MyHeritage.com at all) you see names of living individuals in the tree as <private>. This is done in order to protect the privacy of living people and still allow guests to visit.
It sounds to me like you are visiting your site as a guest. It might happen if you have more than one email address registered with us and are trying to visit your family tree through the wrong account.
Try logging in with your other email address and password. If you need more help getting into your family site, please send me a link to the site and I'll see if I can restore access for you.
Thank you for the prompt response. I "think" it may be that my site "Bourque Web Site" and my daughters site "Makenzie Web Site" may have been linked somehow. She also has a second site "Marsh Family" My daughters email is email@example.com and my email is firstname.lastname@example.org She had originally sent me her site, but then I started my own family tree. It may be that they have somehow become linked, as I can no longer find my web site and edit it. The system indicates that there is a Bourque Web Site and I am the manager, but I can't seem to get into it and edit it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Norm
Thank you for responding. I figured it out before you responded. I had a couple trees posted so I just deleted the ones that were confusing me. I took my family tree from my software and exported/imported as GED Com.
Now what I am finding is that we do not have all the features of the MH Tree Builder software online. For example in the MH Tree Builder software we have a lot more options under Edit then what we do online. Am I missing something?
You are correct that there are more options and fields to enter information into your tree in Family Tree Builder. This is because Family Tree Builder is a software that saves your information on your own computer.
I am not a paying member and do not intend to become one. Therefore why do you send me emails inviting me to perform functions on this site which I am not allowed to? Most likely I'm not allowed to send this email either.
In Family Tree Builder children are connected to a husband/wife family group. That means that when a new spouse is entered, the children of the former marriage stay with the former family group and are not shown as belonging to the family group which is made up of the new husband/wife.
You can edit your biological parents with their children (you and your sister), then add your father's second spouse and their son (your brother); Please see the following FAQ on how to edit the spouse's correct status:
