I found a Moxley also in Bandon who was a shoe maker and there was also a Crowley who was a shoemaker there. Perhaps it might be a way to go as Silvanus was also a shoemaker. It looks as though Silvanus best man was John. Surely one of them was named after his father!!
The Index of Irish wills give 3 Moxley/Moxly in the late 17th and early 18th Centuries. I will try to find out how to access the actual wills, or indeed if thats possible.
The Richard of the Angler's Rest came from Clonakilty and his father was Stephen, also a vintner. Clonakilty is not too far from Bandon and he may be related but the family appeared to be RC. It may well be that an early Moxley converted on marriage.
This is facinating! A Moxley also emigrated from Cork to the US and became a senator there - I haven't chased him up because it's very easy to get distracted. There's lots online about him. There were also convicts deported to Australia and a few accused of theft but the charges were struck out!! There's the making of a good book in the Moxleys.
