Welcome

My name is Susan Cox and I started this site.

I have redone this site hopefully in a way everyone can better view items and documents. I hope it helps for clarity. If you see something incorrect please let me know , either by email or leave a note or comment I do not take offense to corrections , I actually appreciate it and you can leave notes with pictures and stories about them if you have some. I always welcome help. Also I found that I can only add and edit things in Internet explorer . it does not work with google chrome or firefox. You are welcome to add photos if you would like to share. Help all you can if you know something new or something I may have left out. I continually update items as I find them. Just add them into the family photos album and connect them to the people they are of or let me know. Add a story or piece of history too!

You will see the name spelling changes that occurred from France to Canada and then from Canada to the US. I have found many mispellings and changes Sorieul,Saurioll,Souriolle,Sauriol+dit San Soucy, In the US the name has been mispelled many ways even Sowriolle and Saurcall, It was a tough name to spell already but it has been interesting to see how many ways it has changed.

I am searching Vaillancourt/Blouin from my paternal grandmother and Bradley/Stultz from my mothers side. Always more to find. Sometimes I get little pieces of information ,get stumped and then I find something else that ties it all together.LOL

I love doing this.!

Our family was quite broken in many ways and this has helped me to find a little bit of the past to help brighten my future. I have found family I had not ever seen and some I had not seen in years. Others I have found I did not even know existed. We are quite a large group.

Here is a link that helps explain a litlle about Canadian French names like Dit-Sansoucy. For anyone who would like to know where those parts came from

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~agrandchildsheritage/dit.htm

this page gives some insite to added end names that are actually an alias but were legal to use as surnames.Laughing

I also am researching my husbands side of the family now Cox,Cocke,Cock,Prater,Blevens and more. Lots of history to find and some of the help from other site members has been invaluable to my research along with added notes, citations and pictures.

Pierre Sorieul was born in Rennes, France, on 15 April 1775. He was the fourth kid born in Rennes to Guillaume Sauriol and Nicole Jourdan. He came to Nouvelle France about 1700 as a soldier of les
Compagnies Franches de la Marine. He served in Quebec City, Montreal, etc. and eventualy settled on a farm in Saint-Laurent next to his father-in-law. He had 11 children from 1720 to 1740; all Sauriol
s today are descendants of Louis and Maurice. He died 12 April 1748. The Sanssoucy addition is a nickname given to him in the army.

&nbsp
