My name is Prop Geldenhuys
and I started this site in 2009, using MyHeritage.com. If you have any comments or feedback about this site, please click here to contact me.
Please be wary of "duplicating" names, or creating '"new trees" - because the system will require you to upgrade unnecessarily - at a cost of R994! I need food on the table more! However, a limited upgrade has been agreed for a year - to gauge whether a need exists to keep the family history going. (Perhaps some kind soul may wish to sponsor my continued research? Contributions to upgrade the site will be appreciated) (the Geldenhuys Genealogy book is available on CD and shortly in book form).
Albert Barends Gildenhuyzs was made a Cape 'Vryburger' on 23 September 1661. His son, Barend, born Cape Town, married Anna Siek and purchased the Van Der Stel winefarm homestead Vergelegen in 1709, on the outskirt which later became Somerset West. Vergelegen has a fascinating history for anyone interested in genealogy.
I am now adding the earlier deleted Moodie, Whiteley, Arnott family trees (previously deleted). However, please note that Brian McQueen's family tree is more up to date than mine! MarJel - please persuade all the Jelley's to support - and join Brian McQueen's heritage tree
Our family tree is posted online on this site! There are 2161 names in our family site. The earliest event is the birth of Dirck Thonis van der Piet
(1582). The most recent event is the death of Elizabeth Susanna 'Betty' Bezuidenhout
(Sep 4 2011). The site was last updated on May 28 2012, and it currently has 77 registered member(s). If you wish to become a member too, please click here. Enjoy!
The 'Lucy Geldenhuys' is the recommended Family tree to select - - - I have deleted most of the other duplicated names, and ALL the other DUPLICATED 'family trees'. Names with the big "D"crest, denotes Duplicated names that still require removal / deletion
Please visit my PeySoft website as well - at www.pey.co.za
Renene has been declared the Eastern Bay's grocery grabbing champion (Whakatane Beacon news - 23 August 2011).
Renene Delene Jelley set the New Zealand record in the 90-second grocery grab with her dash to rip $641 worth of groceries from the shelves in the nationwide joint promotion by Nestle and New World. She completed the well planned and executed dash unassisted.
"I know my shop and I put fast sneakers on" she said. "The most valuable items are at the ends of the isles." Her strategy was to minimize transport distances, as well as collecting a valuable gift basket from the freezer section.
The Geldenhuys family is very proud of her achievement - and just love that beautiful smile during her recording-breaking dash as captured by Beacon newspaper photographer Sven Carlsson.
Hello family and friends - - We look forward to Lucy-Lu revisiting her place of birth in just over a months time - - will be flying in from Auckland, New Zealand, to South Africa. Pey and Eloise are attending a wedding in Cape Town at the end of November, and will then come to visit the parents in Durban / Amanzimtoti (Howards and Geldenhuys). Matthew will catch up on some of his old school friends - and energetic Lucy will experience her first 'South African' Christmas [previous Christmas was in Auckland].
Jan Geldenhuys turned 70on 15 August 2010. Delene (sister) and Chanli Brink (niece) have flown in from Auckland, NZ, to celebrate the occasion in Toti. Granddaughter Chanel is flying up from Port Elizabeth (interrupting her University studies - writing finals this year) so as not to miss the event. Stuart (son) and Joy are coming down from Swaziland, as is daughter Charmaine - from Johannesburg. Grandson Jason will be in Cape Town, playing in a golf tournament, and will miss out. Ian and Louise are expected to be there as well. Big grandson Craig will get a pass-out from Glenwood boarding school to support the family.
So a good Hooli is in the making. Just as well that a 'pick-pocket' has stolen my drivers licence, which I trust will be a distraction should the police be out in force to apprehend dronk drivers - - -
Rina and I are all excited about our pending trip to Gauteng this week-end. Thursday in Vereeniging with Frans and Keinding Malan, Friday to Jhb for the Military Museum, meet the Beavers, than major get-to-gether with the Wesson family (who I will be meeting for the first, very emotional, time). Saturday is fun time to walk the Springbok Vasbyt memorial event for Puma 164 - and not forgetting the Wesson Bell - shot down at Barragem in Mozambique on 5 Sep 1979 (I count myself fortunate to have visited the crash site exactly a week ago). Saturday night stop with Libby in Pretoria, Sunday visit Phil and Elcora before they fly off to Scotland on Monday. Monday visit Libby in hospital after her toe operation, and night-stop with with Hendrik Malan. Then hope to meet up again with more family - Johan and Adele Bezuidenhout.
SAAFA Luncheon and Talk. I am the guest speaker at the monthly function - also appropriately immediately following the Remembrance Parade. An unusually large turnout is anticipated. I spoke about our recent trip to New Zealand - - and their over 500 war memorials! We still have a long way to go.
Mozambique Expedition. I will be joining Rick van Malsen on his Revisit to Mapai in July 2010. Neill Jackson is writing a book, which will be published by Chris Cocks in March 2011. I will title my book "MAPAI 2010" for publishing by PeySoft - - please see website www.pey.co.za . In addition, I am now researching all the casualties of the Rhodesian War - be they friend or foe. This will include Zanla, Zipra and Frelimo casualties.
The Museu de Revolucio (Revolution Museum) is still closed for renovation - like it was two years ago - but the good news is that the Curator, Adriano Mariquele, has once again agreed to open his doors for us. I am also expecting to arrange a meeting with retired Frelimo Chief of Staff, General Antonio Hama Thay, while in Maputo.
