When I started this site I decided not to restrict it to our direct blood lines but to explore and record as much information about the extended (by marriage) family.
Davies is my surname. My paternal Grandfather and his father and even further back are Welsh. There are many varients of this name however, when written as "Davies" and pronounced "Day-vis" it iis most definitely Welsh. Legend has it that all Welsh Daviies's are descendants of Cynrig Efell, great grandson of the Prince of Powys, head of the third Royal Tribe of Wales. Welsh Davies means "Follower of Saint David". The family motto is "Heb dduw Heb ddim duw a digon" which translates as "Without God without anything ,God is enough" The Davies crest is shown above.
Griffiths is my wife's maiden surname which is also an ancient welsh surname. It derives from the old Welsh personal name "Grippiud". This gradually developed into "Gruffydd". Its welsh pronounciation in South Wales became "Griffydd" ( Griff - ith ) and the medieval scribes, not being Welsh, recorded it as "Griiffith". This form Griffith and Griffiths the patronymic came to be used almost universally, as forename and surname throughout Wales. The original "Grippiud" roughly translates to "strong "grip" " Lord, chief"
