| My name is Cathal McCarthy
and I am the site manager of this site. I've upgraded the site to accommodate an unlimited number of photographs so If you have any photos or documents that you would like to share with the extended family, please feel free to upload them. (You could create your own albums.) This site was created using MyHeritage.com. This is a great system that allows anyone like you or me to create a site for their family and even publish their family tree on the Internet. If you have any comments or feedback about this site, please click here to contact me. I would appreciate any information such as spouse's details, date of marriage and especially details of the newer arrrivals which I have not yet included in the tree.
I have 'constructed' three trees: - McCarthys Young Grove: This was the ‘first’ tree and originally was intended as a list of birthdays and anniversaries for the ‘Young Grove’ descendants. It now also includes the paternal and maternal uncles and aunts, and ancestors
- McCarthys Glaun (Glan) Schull:* This tree is now the main genealogical site and was originally built mainly from family trees which Father Chuck gave me on one of his visits.
- McCarthys - The Burke Connection: I built this tree from information gleaned from books and websites (mainly from Filíocht Mháire Bhuidhe Ní Laoghaire by An tAthair Ó Donnchú, and from Máire Bhuí Ní Laoire: A Poet of her People by Brian Brennan - © Brian Brennan 2000.) while I was researching the link between grandmother Mary Burke and Máire Bhuí.
Use the 'drop down' box towards the top right hand corner of the family tree screen to select the tree you wish to examine. *The Glaun tree now includes the Lannin relations (aunt, uncles, cousins and ancestors). Much of the detail for this extension is taken (with his permission) from the copyrighted works of Joseph Lannin (Uncle Joe) who, following an enormous amount of research produced these two comprehensive family trees: The Lannin Family of Gubbeen, Schull, County Cork (© Joseph Lannin, 1994) with 441 individuals and The Wilcox Family of Ardravinna, Goleen, County Cork (© Joseph Lannin, 1995) with 1146 individuals and a further 120 individuals, ensuing from the marriage of John Lannin and Margaret Wilcox in 1917, who appear in both trees, giving a total of 1807 names (up to 1994/95). Thank You, Uncle Joe. The earliest identified McCarthy ancestors are brothers Thomas and Florence McCarthy (born late 18th century), but I do not have exact dates; Thomas is great-great-grandfather to the McCarthy Young Grove siblings. Our family tree is posted online on this site! There are 1690 names in our family site. The earliest event is the birth of Michael Collins aka Coileans (1750). The most recent event is the birth of <Private> Medlin (Feb 25 2012). The site was last updated on May 29 2012, and it currently has 59 registered member(s).
