Генеалогия:Holiday traditions
Размещено: Louisiana Genealogy 23 Дек 2009 11:36

We have a relatively new holiday tradition at our house ~ we scrapbook our new holiday recipes. As soon as my children were able to help out in the kitchen - I let them help with meal planning for Thanksgiving and Christmas. We have several favorite holiday dishes that we include EVERY year and then we try a few NEW recipes from my family cookbook collection. The recipes that we really love get to go into the scrapbook. I let the kids decorate a piece of cardboard or thick scrapbook paper with whatever they would like and then place the recipe card on the page, too. It's just one way that we celebrate the holidays. This helps find the recipe for next year, too!

We also make paper ornaments every year out of a large piece of poster board. We decorate and cut out as many ornaments as we can make from one large piece of posterboard. It keeps the kids busy and in the holiday spirit.

Генеалогия:Louisiana Genealogy Blogs - What's new with me
Размещено: Louisiana Genealogy 22 Авг 2009 13:29

I've had a very busy summer this year and have not been posting to the blogs or groups lately. (I have three children at home and one will be two years old this week ... so you can understand why I'm so busy!)

I have also been frought with computer issues. In the past month I've lost the graphics card and a power supply and a surge protector. I'm barely, "hanging in there" with this puter that I've patched togather... anyway....if you are new to this group, thanks for joining! You will find that the Yahoo Group is STILL having search issues. I keep emailing support at Yahoo hoping that someone will finally fix the problem and I try to send messages in duplicate to the Google Group, too. There is a link from the Yahoo Group to the Google group in case you would rather view messages at Google. This group is rather quiet with only 8 or 10 members and that's nice if you like small groups. (I know I do!)

I try to import all of my Blog...

Civil War ancestor from New Orleans
Saturday, November 22, 2008 8:10 PM
From:
I have looked high and low for info on Wm. F. Perry who joined the infantry for La. during the Civil War. He apparently was born in Maryland, but was residing in New Orleans during the war. He enlisted at Camp Moore in 1861 and I do have from Footnote.com and family (verbal) history the battles he was in, including Gettysburg where he was severely wounded (he had an arm amputation after that battle). But what I am trying to find is why he was in N.O. since he was from Maryland and whom his parents were (both listed as from MD. in census info he gave in years after the war). He for some reason moved to Columbus, Georgia after the Civil War. Here he worked as a clerk in a dry goods store and married in 1870 to a Mittie Bussey (I know through fam history as Mattie Elizabeth Bussey). I am searching for any info or family out there with a history of Perrys from Md. to Louisiana. Thanks for any info.

Генеалогия:Searching for burial location, David Sanders d. Feb. 25, 1815 Orleans Parish, LA
Размещено: Louisiana Genealogy 13 Авг 2008 09:35

Please contact the original author, Charles W. Sanders cmsanders@citlink.net, if you have additional information or sources.

From Find A Grave: Originally Posted By: sanders

Born: 1775 North Carolina, USA
Death:Feb. 25, 1815 New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana, USA

Died either at New Orleans, or back home in Tennessee as a result of wounds received at the Battle of New Orleans on Jan,8th 1815. Burial location unkown, but probably in New Orleans.

"The following is found page 178 of the book entitled War of the 1812
Soldiers of Maury County Tennessee (lib number 976.859 M2G) "David Sanders, service not determined . died at N. Orleans under Maj. General Carroll Division in the service of the United States against the Tories of Great Britain"

Eldon Hurst quotes from the March 1815 minutes of the Rock Creek Church in Bedford County Tennessee that "Brothers Michael Sholfer and David Sanders died at N. Orleans and states that Moses Martin Sanders gave his father's death date of January 11. 1815 ,whereas the "National Archives states his death as 25 Jan ,1815. Not sure if the 25 Jan is a misprint and Feb 25 is intended: The Feb date would be closer to the three months and fifteen days that David was paid for his service . conclusion he did not die at the Battle of New Orleans but after the battle was over , possibly from wounds or an infection.

David Sanders died intestate and in April 1815 a Bedford Co Tenn issued
letters of administration to Mary Sanders and James Allred. David's son
(David James Sanders) was born posthumously June 14,1815".

Этот веб-сайт:My Heritage to add Calendar apps, but they are too late!
Размещено: Louisiana Genealogy 28 Апр 2008 13:51

I've been using WebApps for my genealogy news, calendar, surname lists, add a link and the blog forum. You can view those here.

WebApps switched over in the past year to "yourwebapps" without trouble, at least I didn't encounter any trouble, yet. The applications allow you and your visitors to add links, surnames, calendar events and more. It also doubles as a mailing list. They uses a double opt in, so you must confirm your subscriptions.

I just created the forum and had a lots of fun with it.

Этот веб-сайт:Genealogy Websites
Размещено: Louisiana Genealogy 8 Апр 2008 21:03

I've had to edit this page several times due to html errors. Initially, the page is fine, but when it is saved html errors appear. Here is a link to the original page.

I will attempt yet another edit!

Here is the list of the 50 Most Popular Genealogy Web Sites from World Vital Records Blog, who blogged about the compiler, Kory Meyerink. Here's a little bit about him.

"About the Presenter

Kory Meyerink, BS, MLS, AG®, FUGA, has been involved in nearly every aspect of genealogy and family history for the past 20 years. Kory is an accredited genealogist in four geographic areas (Germany, Midwestern U.S., Eastern U.S. and New England U.S.). He specializes in tracing the origins of German and Dutch immigrants."

I found that I use 14 of these 50 and would rank USGenWeb over many of the others listed here. There are also a few resources that I utilize in searching that are not listed here.

The first thing that I would use is a dictionary. I'm not familiar enough with professional genealogist to understand exactly what criteria they must have in order to be accredited. Hence the on-line dictionary for the acronymns. FUGA? Huh? What?

In my humble opinion, I feel that there are so many free genealogy sites available that actually paying for information is a SIN. Yes, a SIN. Go to a free look up, message board, list or chat room first! There was no ranking of the genealogy message boards; and there are quite a few, which I utilize frequently for more lead generation. Ancestry, RootsWeb, GenCircles, Tribal Pages, My Heritage, Genealogy.com (GenForum), Find A Grave, and free web site pages on all of the major web sites like Yahoo! Geocities, MSN homepages, Lycos, Angelfire and as many as you can think of generate so many leads already that it is mind bending. No one mentioned alternative search engines to the major players on the web, either. There are more search engines than just Google, Yahoo, and AOL.
