My name is Pamela Pitlanish and I started this site so that the Pitlanish (Pitlanič, Pitlanich, Petlanich, Patlonick) family can get to know each other through our branches & many leaves.  We are realizing that there are many different spellings of our surname, depending on how the folks at Ellis Island "heard" the name, & how it was then recorded during the process of immigration.  But the original spelling, and that of our cousins in Slovakia, is Pitlanič (č= ich sound).  Which is why John Pitlanich, the oldest of the sons of Andrej, probably spelled it Pitlanich, rather than Pitlanish, as his brothers did.
