"To be ignorant of what occurred before you were born is to remain always a child. For what is the worth of human life, unless it is woven into the life of our ancestors by the records of history?" — Marcus Tullius Cicero

My name is David Rod Hatfield and I am the Site manager of this site.

My grandfather was Allen Hatfield. Known as "River Allen", he was born Dec 18, 1892 in Buskirk, KY. That's a small town just across the Tug River from historic Matewan, WV. He was related not only to "Devil Anse" Hatfield of the feud fame but also Sid Hatfield of the mine wars era. He also was sheriff of Matewan for several years during WWII. His line goes back to "Eaf of us all" Ephraim Hatfield B1765 - D1855 era.

I created this page as much for my children and grand children as myself. This in hope to encourage them and their families to learn more of the rich heritage found in all our generations. Other family names have been added over the years so this sharing has grown beyond numbers I never at first dreamed could be reached. Over 4,000 names now and still growing!

May all who enter learn and enjoy thier heritage!

I've tried to compile links as best seem logical after several years of research but admit as Jerry Hatfield states on his site, "some are not totally proven".

My immediate ancestors are mostly buried in the John Wallace Cemetery at Buskirk, Pike Co, KY.

Here is a web site with the names listed and GPS location for this cemetery:  http://www.ghat.com/110898.htm

As need be I've expanded the lines down through the Farley, Humphrey, Roberts, Hibbard, Chew, Lyons famlies and kin.

Don't hesitate to email me suggestions or better yet proofs of error.

Thanks and enjoy!

Obituaries:Uncle Jim Lyons Obit
Posted by: David Rod Hatfield on Dec 30 2012 10:07

Our family lost a wonderful dear uncle this past week. Uncle James Lyons was one of our family's best. Husband to my mon's sister Aunt Jean Farley, Uncle Jim will be very much missed. For as long as I can remember he was a giant within the family. Such was he that today when I read his obit, I was shocked to read " Sgt. in the US Army during WW II earning two bronze stars for his service." ! Never did I hear him mention this. Each year every family reunion back from the 50s to 80s it was Uncle Jim who headed up and supported expense wise much of our Farley reunions. Again we have lost one of "the Greatest Generation" members!

Here is part of his obit and link:

"Lyons, James L. beloved husband of Jean (Farley) Lyons. Loving father of James (Linda) Lyons, Terence (Jean) Lyons, Susan (Charles) Fischesser, Cathy (Ken) Fitzgerald, Dan (Mary) Lyons, Amy Lyons & Emily Wehrly. Also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Daniel Lyons and Marion Connett. Monday, Dec 24, 2012 Age 86 yrs. Jim was a Sgt. in the US Army during WW II earing two bronze stars for his service. He was also a member of The Cincinnati Bar Association; Ohio State Bar Association;Purcell Council 2798 Knights of Columbus (3rd Degree, American Legion Post 199 and he was registered to practice before the Ohio Supreme Court."----
