Jacob R. “Bobby” Huff, 75, of Bassett, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at his home.

He was born in Henry County on March 17, 1937, to Jacob M. Huff and Elizabeth Hall Huff Holt. His parents preceded him in death.

Huff was an Army veteran who served during the Vietnam War.

Surviving are one daughter, Donna H. Williams of Coeburn; three sisters, May Seay and Sallie Walls, both of Bassett, and Frances Ingram of Danville; one brother, Mickey Holt of Bassett; one granddaughter; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Bassett Funeral Service is handling arrangements.

GASTONIA - Lillie Helen Collins Stumbo, 82, passed away Oct. 10, 2011, at home.

She was born Nov. 16, 1928, in Thomasville, to the late Rev. Ray Collins and Ella Hall Collins.
Lillie ran a soup kitchen for 39 years and fostered children. Lillie loved her husband very much and has wanted to reunite with him ever since he passed away on April 6, 2003.

On Oct. 10, 2011, Lillie was reunited with her husband. We know Lillie is loving being with her savior, Jesus Christ and with all of her loved ones who have gone on before.

Funeral service will be private.

Survivors include her daughter, Glenda Dale Avvocato of Snowflake, Arizona; sons, James Ceraso of Gastonia, Clinton Ceraso of Dallas; brothers, Rev. Paul Collins and wife Patsy of Gastonia, Ray Collins, Jr. of Gastonia, Ralph Collins and wife Pam of Wilmington; sisters, Jewel Capel of Gastonia, Maynell Foster of Kings Mountain, Katherine Auten of Gastonia, Judy Foster of Gastonia; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Lennox Stumbo Jr.; sisters, Faye Trustler, Ruth Cruz; brother, J. D. Collins.
Memorials may be made to Hospice and Pallative Care Lincoln County, 107 N. Cedar Street, Lincolnton, NC 28092.

MOUNT AIRY — Ms. Margaret Layte Puckett Jones, 76, of 154 Fairlane Drive, Mount Airy, passed away Monday afternoon, March 7, 2011, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Ms. Jones was born Jan. 18, 1935, in Surry County, daughter of the late Claude Turner and Maudie Hall Puckett. Margaret retired as an in-home health care worker from Surry Friends of Youth and was a member of Woodland Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Kathy and Arthur Foulks of Madison and Carolyn Johnson of Mount Airy; a son, Kenneth Jones of Clemmons; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Frankie and Clyde Lawson of Stuart, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Ms. Jones was preceded in death by six sisters, Mildred Watts, Euelala Puckett, Maxine White, Violet Naylor, Marylene Griffin, and Vivian Watts; and two brothers, Claude L. Puckett and Leo Turner Puckett. The funeral service will be held Friday, March 11, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Woodland Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jimmy Slate and the Rev. Johnny Easter officiating. Burial will follow in the New Beginning Church Cemetery in Ararat, Va. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie in state 30 minutes before the funeral service. Abe Cassidy, 95, of Lexington, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011, at the VA Medical Center in Salisbury.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel by the Revs. Frankie Matthews and Gary Gibson. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park with military graveside rites by VFW Post 3074.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Cassidy was born June 7, 1915, in Surry County to Joseph William Cassidy Jr. and Etta Dalton Cassidy. He was a member of Sheets Memorial Baptist Church and a retired salesman from Guardsman Chemical. Mr. Cassidy served in the U.S. Army and was a member of VFW Post 3074, Amvets Post 13 and American Legion Post 8. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Lee Humphrey Cassidy; brother Noah Cassidy; and sisters Julie Jones, Gretchen Berrier, Burt Venable and Mary Davenport.

Surviving are son Abe R. Cassidy and wife Lynne of Lexington; daughters Carolyn Bruff and husband Hoyle and Linda Wilson, all of Lexington; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and brother Rhoten Cassidy of Lexington.

Reverend Diane Collins, 58, of Ranlo, passed away December 8, 2010 at her residence. Rev. Collins was born in Catawba County, NC on March 29, 1952 to Lou Ellen Kincaid Devine and the late Garland Eugene Divine. Mrs. Collins was an evangelist with the Church Of God and also had pastored at Westside Hope Church of God. Diane enjoyed writing but had a passion for singing.

Services to celebrate Rev. Collins life will be Saturday December 11 at 3:00 PM at Union Road Church of God, 2315 Union Rd. with the Reverends, Paul Collins, Chad Collins and Jason Collins officiating with husband Ray Collins also speaking. Visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 PM, also at the church. Interment will be Private.

Daniel Simonds. Former member of Union Road Youth Group

Byron Adams. Member of Epic Church

Butch Carter. Member of Westside Hope Church of God

David Tucker. Mentored by Sister Collins as an evangelist

Troy Beaver. Fellow evangelist from Western NC

Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Ray Collins. Stepfather, Jim Devine. Sons, Rev. Chad Collins and wife April of Gastonia, Trey Collins of Bar Harbor, Maine and Rev. Jason Collins and wife Summer of Dallas. Grandchildren, Dylan, Noah, Sawyer, Sage, Jay and Jemma. Two sisters, Joyce Day of Ranlo and Darlene Hatchett of Candler Mountain, NC.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, Memorials be made in Pastor Collins name to the Epic Church, PO Box 551186, Gastonia, NC 28055.

Arrangements handled by Benny Benson Funeral Director, Licensee.

The funeral for Jewell Hall Whitehead, 76, of Bassett, who died Oct. 6, 2010, at her home, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bassett Funeral Service with the Rev. Lew Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

She was born Sept. 10, 1934, in Henry County to Haze Hall and Susie Hardie Hall. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Whitehead; a sister, Eulalah Weaver; and four brothers, Charlie Hall, Marvin L. Hall, Carl Wade Hall and Weldon O. Hall.

She had worked for the past 10 years at Quality Mart in Collinsville.

Surviving are a son, Ronald Eugene Whitehead of Bassett; a sister, Beulah H. Moore of Martinsville; one grandson; and a number of nieces and nephews.

MOUNT AIRY — Mr. Silas Asa Hall, 93, of Mount Airy passed away Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Hall was born in Patrick County, Va., on June 20, 1917, to the late Judie Elizabeth Hall. He served more than 20 years in the United States Army. Mr. Hall was injured on Christmas Day in 1944 during the Battle of the Bulge and for that he received a Purple Heart. He was a devoted member and Sunday school teacher for many years of the First Baptist Church in Mount Airy and First Baptist Church East Point, Ga. Mr. Hall is survived by his wife, Ruby Robertson Hall of the home; daughter, Susan Kay McWatters of Fayetteville, Ga., and Melba Hall Eason of Liberty, S.C.; stepdaughter, Mary Louise Turner and husband, Bobby, of Bassett, Va.; son, Charles Henry Hall of Lawrenceville, Ga.; grandchildren, Shannon E. and husband, William Harris, Charlie Hall and Stuart Hall; two great-grandsons, John Harris and Mark Harris; stepson, Johnny R. Migliore and wife, Sun, of Sacramento, Calif.; and stepgrandchildren, Donna Marolijo, Jason Ray Turner, Mira Petty, Khristie Rodrigues and Jeff Migliore. In addition to his mother, Mr. Hall was preceded in death by his first wife, Louise Elizabeth Mungo Hall; two sisters, Roxie Scott and Emma Lee Gwynn; and seven brothers, Thamon Hall, Romey Hall, Mack Hall, Samson Hall, Simon Hall, Saford Hall and Clayton Hall. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010, at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Mount Airy by Dr. Roger Gilbert. Burial will follow in the Montgomery-Hall Family Cemetery with full military rites by VFW Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mount Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends in the Fireside Room at the church on Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010, from 2 p.m. until the time of the service. Announcements:Family Reunion

The Collins Family Reunion will be held in Ranlo, NC this year at the Ranlo Lodge. We will start at 1:00 PM on Saturday October 2nd. If you travel I-85, get off at exit 21 and head toward the hospital. Stay on this road, which becomes Spencer Mountain Road till you see the lodge on your right (about 2 miles north of I-85). There would be no Collins family without the Dalton, Montgomery, and Hall families. So if you are descendants of any of these families, please join us.

We will also have a family night at Epic church in Lowell on Friday night, October 1st at 7:00 PM. Epic is located on the north side of I-85 at exit 22. The church is located next door to the Indian Motorcycle dealer. Bring snacks and be prepared to have a good time. If you have any questions, call Ray Collins at 704-608-1740. Smile

Jemma Rae Collins was born at 4:22 AM on August 18, 2010 to Jason and Summer Collins. She was born at Gaston Memorial Hospital and her name "Jemma" comes from two great-grandfathers, Jim Devine and Jim Hayes. Her middle name comes from her grandfather, Ray Collins. Laughing
