Luther Chapin (father of Alvin, Eber Jones, Consider, and 11 other children) was born Sunday, 17 November 1754, in Cold Spring [Belchertown since 1761], Hampshire County, MA; died 18 or 19 February 1810, "in his 54th year", Duncansboro [now Newport], Orleans County, VT. He was son of Thomas III and Lydia (Field) Chapin. He married 21 December 1773, in Palmer, MA, Dinah Jones, who was born 11 October 1750, Coventry, Tolland County, CT; living 1796; apparently died by 1800; daughter of Ebenezer and Zerviah (Loomis) Jones. Luther was first clerk of Duncansboro, VT (1800-1810) & his handwritten records in the Town Journal list the dates & places of birth of his 14 children. [His son Consider also kept family notes.] For further information look for the family tree of Luther's son John Amsden Chapin & contact the owner--I gladly share my research.
