Born into a family of eight boys and eight girls, and surviving the harsh depression days, thanks to her very energetic and over-worked mother, Nancy Gwendaline grew up with a good role model, survival instincts and not afraid of hard work. She was a fine seamstress, and very talented making theatre costumes when orders came in, as well as the beautiful rag and sleeping dolls,she made and sold.
Donald Clifton , was the youngest son of John Austen, and Annie Elizabeth nee Wilkinson, George. Being the youngest of three boys his brothers thought of him as being spoilt. He learned to play the piano as a child, and I can still hear his talented version of The Storm, by Tchycoski, he could really bring the keys to life. The birds twittering, the rain-drops, flashes of lightning and of course the very dramatic crashes of thunder! How I Ioved that piece of music. He was also a first class baker and pastry -cook.
