Hi, my name is Donald Allen Forrest, and I am the webmaster of this site. It has been over three years since this site was started, and the changes and directions it has taken are way beyond what Sue and I had expected. While I intend to include more Forrest Family info, when I have time, my focus has been on my mothers side of the family, and Sue's side of the family. Our main focus has been the maternal side of my mothers family, the Pettipas Ancestry, and Sue's maternal side, the Walter Ancestry. While both family's play a prominent role, there are still many other aspects of this site. The ancestry of the Pettipas Family extends through the photo in the upper right side of the home page. This was the Forward Family reunion, 1986 in Nova Scotia. From left to right are my aunts and uncles, starting with Donna,Arthur,Charlie, Lydie, Gordon,Doris, my Mom Jean, Marilyn, Victor, George and my Grandmother in the middle Laura Margaret Forward(nee Russell). My Grandmothers, mother, my Great Grandmother is Alice Caroline Pettipas. The Pettipas Family Line extends back to the Acadian French Settlement of Port Royal on the North Shore of Nova Scotia on the Bay of Fundy. This French Settlement was founded in 1605 by Pierre Dugua, Sieur de Mons and Samuel de Champlain. Port Royal was the first permanent European Settlement in North America north of Florida. The Pettipas arrived in Port Royal during the early 1600's and had the first born in Port Royal in 1637, thus having direct ancestors in Nova Scotia for nearly 400 years. When moving around the site, and particularly the area containing the family in Port Royal, Nova Scotia, you will notice the same name more than once. There was such a tight knit community in Port Royal at that time that many of the family's were marrying brothers and sisters within the same family. This in turn led to the listing of parents more than once, so to separate them, I added a number to each member mentioned more than once.
Since Sue started being interested in the project, many interesting facts have been uncovered from her ancestors.Sue's mothers maternal line extends back to the Walter Family. The Walters being very prominent in Wales in the 1500's, including living in and owning Roch Castle in Pembrokeshire. John Walter purchased the castle from the original owner Adam de Rupe the first inhabitant of Roch Castle. Also born in Roch Castle was the infamous Lucy Walter, Granddaughter of John and mistress to King Charles II. Sue is a direct decendant of Richard Walter, Lucy Walter's brother. The Family left Roch Castle and moved to Haverfordwest Wales then on to the towns of Bradworthy and Cormwall in England when Oliver Cromwell and his forces were taking over castles in the name of the King. William Walter before his death in 1614 was the mayor of Haverfordwest Wales.
The site is always a work in progress. Additions, changes and edits, are always on the go. The site has over 1500 names, so navigation can have it's challenges. After viewing the home page, click on the Family Tree Tab. Once in the Family Tree Site, to the left of the page are 2 tabs labeled List and Person. To get to a specific family or person, scroll up or down the list of people then click on the person and the site brings you to that area.
Hope you enjoy the site. If you have any questions or would like to join the site, please e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks Don Forrest & M. Susan Sharp.
