Most genealogy research sites have Martha Suggs as the mother of all of the children of Jessie Garrett Ashley. A trip to Jawbone Cemetery near Blanton, TX proves this very unlikely. Based upon the grave marking of Jessie G and Martha Suggs, Martha was 22 years younger than Jessie. According to the nearby stone of Wardell Ashley, the eldest son of Jessie Garrett, he was born in 1870. This would have made Martha 8 years old when he was born. This is not impossible, but it is improbable. Photos have been taken of both graves. Again these dates could be wrong, but they are set in stone quite literally. It is my belief that the two eldest children of Jessie were probably from his first marriage to Mary Eakin.
